I have to correct one point: the 3rd division in German League system is not '3. Bundesliga' but only '3. Liga' because the first two divisions are organized by DFL (Deutsche Fussball Liga) while the 3. Liga is organized by DFB (Deutscher Fußball Bund).

Fun fact: the closer I was getting to my move to Germany and the more I was learning to prepare myself and all, the more enthusiasm I somehow began building for soccer and for being aware of what happens when. Totally unrelated. 😂No, it can't be that much unrelated, and this video has been a fingers-snap-answering of questions from start to finish! Or for me, more correctly would be a bulb that lights.. like many of them 💡💡💡💡 About getting Yvonne to discuss, to answer questions and to give knowledge on soccer, I found out on my own right before that Leverkusen - Fortuna game in question that you mentioned. 😂Yes, in our Smoothler Verein! Which is exactly as cool and awesome as you pointed out. Only more awesome and exciting! 🥰
I'm overly excited about the UEFA Cup starting and taking place here in Germany! In fact, today I had the chance to see my work schedule for June and I almost jumped for joy that I'm given the day off on June 14th!🥳
Very beautiful jerseys, both of you!! 4 is my favorite number, and more than everything I want that added for Germany this summer to the UEFA cups as well! 🤞🏆🏆🏆🏆

I am not german and dont live there, but have always supported Nationalelf and also clubs, when they play in Europe. Main reason is, that our national team is weak. And so last 40 years I have supported gemans, from 2005-2012 i visited at least one Bundlesliga game and off course WM 2006. Watched Germany defeat Portugal in Lvov 2012 and going now once again to Euros to watch one game(not german match). And everything is true - all three leagues are massive experiences for supporters and of course I have been in Signal Iduna also ;) ...and yes, i am also a enthusiast.

@8:30 It's even common that the half of the participants of DFB-Pokal are team from 3rd, 4th, 5th divisions and maybe leagues below. They have the once-in-a-lifetime chance to beat a team of Bundesliga or 2. Bundesliga. It's different from f.e. FA Cup in England where the teams until Round of 16 need two games to beat a club from the Premier League, which is way harter than to win in just one game.

The energy in this video is amazing, guys, and Yvonne couldn't help but beam with excitement. You are absolutely right, Jen, Germans LOVE talking about football.......... Short story that I want to share with you guys. It's summer 2014, and I fly home to be with my family for the holidays. The world cup is on, and I am taking all of it with such laser precision and following ALL the games right. I tell my friend a few days before the game that Germany is going to win with a 7-1 scoreline against Brazil, let's put some money on the game. I GO ON TO LET HIM TALK ME OUT OF IT 😥. We are still friends, but I remind him of it every chance that I get 🤣🤣🤣

Fortuna Düsseldorf might get from the 2nd League into the 1st League next season. Fortuna is ranked 3rd in 2nd League and VFL Bochum is ranked 3rd last in the 1st League so there will be two matches (in German: “Relegationsspiele”) between them to determine who will play in which league - first one on Thursday.
    Go, Fortuna, Go 😉

Also, go to a small local pub (not a Sportpub), and visit the games there. For the most important ones, very fast you can make new frinds.
And attention, you can be fast in a conflict, when you are between two areas, or in Hamburg or Berlin where you have two big teams as Pauli and HSV or Hertha and Union...

I think important to note is that in Premier League, a lot like Bayern, they have priced out the regular fan. It costs so much to go to the match that it has more of a corporate vibe than a stadium full of real fans.

Maybe its not as excessive as in the english Premier League but its still capitalistic af.
The rich teams will win and they all have some big ass companies as sponsors.
Its a pay to win system.

I am an old German guy and have the same attitude to football like Jen, I always tell others "Gewinnt mal alle schön" (=every team should win and be happy)😜
The only thing that makes me happy is that Germany has finally been winning something without killing millions of people 👍
Ivonne shows confusing emotions, being from Bonn (near Cologne) and now living in the "forbidden city" of Düsseldorf from the Cologne perspective ... and then a moment later rooting for Cologne?!
The HQ of FC-Bayern-München is just one street over from my place and I find it very annoying that fans are always jamming the sidewalks and sometimes the entire street doing nothing but standing around ... not only drunks, also entire families and I have never figured out what is going on there. They can do or not do whatever they enjoy, as long as they leave some space for cars, bicyclists and people using the sidewalk to get by, which is challenging at times, which I find pretty ignorant and ruthless for people with seemingly no reason to be there?!
My approach to football fans also used to be thinking of them as something between regular drunks and hooligans who like mess up things and people. But that changed when a very dear colleague I have the most respect for outed himself as football fan. But then he also play active football on a regular basis with friend in a park outside a football club and that is when I realized that football fans can be reflective and sensible intellectuals with "strange habits" - maybe something went wrong in his childhood🤣... no honestly since then I differentiate football fans into groups and that makes it all so much more survivable when you accidentally end up in the same subway car with 60 yelling, screaming and jumping supposedly grown-ups pretending their noise is a song.
Bottom line, obviously not all Germans are like that, but I agree with Yvonne, you will find a lot of resonance if you trigger that subject and it might be a great ice breaker to get in touch on this hopefully passionate topic. Its a bit like going to the Eastern part of Germany and telling them how much you hate foreigners - you are instantly a highly respected leader of local Nazi group - just kidding!
I am sorry for letting my silly ideas run free, I better go now, thanks for the great video and good night!

That was a campain by Fortuna Düseldorf called "Fortuna für alle" (Fortuna for everybody), where for three home games all tickets were free. I think you had to aply for them and it was open to all members, season ticket holders and non members. So as far as I understand it, they will do it again next season.
