      Remember watching all of these games in real time. I was astonished at how good the USA team was. 8-0. This was probably the best coaching Knight ever did. MJ and Perkins just took it to the NBA players.
      Jordan picked Thomas several times and dominated several games. Thomas tried, but couldn't guard Jordan. Pretty sure this is where the resentment started from Thomas towards Jordan. Remember Thomas had lead Indiana to the National title in 1981? Then Jordan hit the buzzer beater in 1982. Knight says Jordan's the best baller he's ever seen in 1984. Thomas leads the freeze out of Jordan in the 1985 All Star game. He leads the Jordan Rules in 89 and 90. Then walks off the court w/o shaking hands in 1991.
      After failing miserably at every position he's held since retiring from basketball now Thomas speaks in glowing terms regarding MJ. It's all BS. Thomas knows what side his bread is buttered and wants to keep his TV gigs. While I have respect for IT's accomplishments I don't have any respect for him.

    MJ came into the NBA as the most skilled player in the game. You can see that all those NBA all-stars looked a little intimidated by MJ's talent. I noticed Magic especially didn't want to defend him. In MJ's 3rd game as a rookie he scored 37 points against Sidney Moncrief the back-to-back winner of the DPOY award. There has never been a player like MJ.

    • @user-sl6ll6gf3g
      @user-sl6ll6gf3g 3 года назад +1

      @Ulysses432 with all due respect, Jordan scored on Moncrief in his second NBA game only 21 points (although he delivered great show). And yes, in his third game he scored 37 points, on Moncrief partially (it was clear that Moncrief was tired from defending Jordan before 4th period of first game started) and delivered even greater show

Pippen wasn't no all-star when he joined the Bulls. Lebron wouldn’t have dominated Kareem. Unfortunately Kareem wasn’t playing here. Maybe injured ? Jordan didn’t dominate the combo/double teaming of Magic Johnson and Kareem in his first year or 2.But 1on 1 he may have.

    Knight was the college version of Pat Riley in terms of dress. He had great choice in clothes and a slim/trim physique and his polyester plaid pants always had no creases and his see-thru short-sleeved shirts displayed his undershirt and armpit stains just as you want them to if you're a fashion-forward person. Bobby had the look and in the 80s, that was important. Ironically, he was strutting the same sidelines that Riles did during the NBA season. Riles was almost as good a dresser as Bobby, but he insisted on that cheap Italian silk and poor designers like Versace and Armani. His pants always had sharp creases and he never wore short sleeve polyester. Bobby could've taught him a trick or two.

    Similar thing happened in 88’ when the Olympic team beat the NBA all stars in scrimmages. An example of how much it matters when teams have time to learn how to play together.
    Bobby Knight actually thought Jordan was overrated at first. He told Billy Packer that he was concerned because he said Jordan couldn’t shoot. A couple months later he told Packer “Jordan is going to be the greatest player ever”

    • @paulsonj72
      @paulsonj72 4 года назад +2

      Supposedly he also told Jordan his reputation didn't mean a thing to him and he'd have to prove he(Jordan) belonged on the team. I don't think that bothered Jordan at allsince he was so darn competitive I'm sure he relished the thought to prove he belonged

    listen to what the commentator said starting at 3:08. he sums it up pretty well for how complete jordan was entering professional basketball. handling and shooting, and moving without the ball, something that took kobe 10 years to learn and he still hasnt got it right.
