- Опубликовано: 12 фев 2022
- 🇺🇦 We react to Ukraine's Eurovision 2022 song - Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors by Alina Pash (Тіні Забутих Предків). Alina won Vidbir 2022 in Kyiv, topping the jury vote but coming second with the public televote. The song, which discusses how Ukraine should learn from its past struggles but write its own history moving forward, comes at a time of great political conflict with Russia. We discuss the song, the staging and comparisons to Jamala's 1944.

This is really really great song! Thank you Ukraine for the another amazing entry for us. Ukraine is the best about showing their culture very openly with their songs. ❤🇹🇷🇺🇦
I was waiting your reaction. I so glad you found right words to describe this a piece of Art. Amazing powerful and incredible. Love ❤️
Winner for me from Canada

In the Carpathians (the mountainous area in the far western part of Ukraine where Alina was born), a unique cry is traditionally used to call each other in the mountains. In this case, each person chooses a sound that identifies him. That scream at the beginning Alina came up with for herself.
These sounds in the beginning and the end of the song are bird calls that unite with Nature and the land.
That's just _awesome!_
When listen this song cry and guspumb in my arms 😱. Ethnic fenomenal song and similar birds voice life in country beatiful and message a remember history country thank you Alina Pash ❤️. My opinion part spoken in music talk ,a people life in Ukraine dream promise ,a western Europe 🇪🇺

I see, it’s a first reaction. But when you are listening and see the performance for a second time it’s growing even more. It has potential to win.

Eurovision anthem! Alina, like a frightened bird, flew into the sky, in the middle of the song gained height, scorched the sun's wings, and at the last second, like a falcon, dived to the ground, giving the last cry of despair. Goosebumps from the art of singing. Bravo!
Hello from Ukraine. Thank you for the wonderful reaction!!!
While I agree that current events make this stronger in context, I feel like not enough credit is being given here to the song and the vocal performance. The song is so beautiful, is folkloric in a grandiose and almost spiritual way, they managed to make it sound completely orgasmic live when the chorus hits, its outstanding.
Alisha is vocally perfect till the end, the control of her voice is flawless, feels efortless to her. On top of that the way she transmits the feellings with her face and movements is just wonderful.
Even if the current political conflict wasnt there this would still be an extremelly strong candidate and a top5 contender or even more. This is my faveourite act by far for now, a real contender to win. It has it all.
This is not a typical song for Alina Pash so of course i was surprised when i've heard for the first time. Definitely song grows on you later. It touched me a lot though i was really skeptical how it will be perceived at Eurovision. Another sad folklore song from Ukraine... But i was really amazed by all the positive reviews. It means our understanding of beauty is much more common than i thought..
William as a good policeman and Deban as a bad . But I glad that both like this song. 🇺🇦🎼

Good luck from Switzerland ❤️. Love this song!

They don't need to change anything. This is one of the most perfect entries and my clear number 1 and I can't imagine any other entry surpassing this.
Italy, Sweden, Czech Rep and Ireland could and can :)
Well they did change... everything by disqualifying her.
Alina is amazing!!💙💛
That map will and should remain as Ukraine. 👍❤🇺🇦
Thank you for the support, guys 🇺🇦💛
Thanks for an awesome song and national final 🙏🏻
Guys, your reaction and warm words always help! Thanks so much. I hope Alina will be in the Top 10
My 2nd favorite from the final, but still very much a contender to win Eurovision. 🇺🇦 💙💛
The bird noises are very her. Like with ‘Witch’ (w. Apache) I wasn’t sure of the sounds but she just makes it work. It’s just her style (though the calm aspect is not very typical of her). Also she really has the stage presence to make this work.
The bird calls unite with nature. It's the whole: the nation, the legacy of ancestors, the land with its nature, and the current generation writing their own history. The song is basically a call for a UNIVERSAL harmony with land, culture, legacy of ancestors, and own future beautiful legacy to leave behind after ourselves.
potential winner !
interesting fact: originial Picasso's Dove of Peace is in the ukrainian museum
I see a lot of people talking about this good staging, but we know Ukraine dont repeat itself... so, we can expect a different (and better) concept for Eurovision.
Btw, I love everything about it, Alina Pash is real and she is coming!
much love! 🇮🇹❤️🇺🇦
Alina Pash. 👍❤️🌹🇺🇦. Thank you for the wonderful reaction. 👍💙💛
UKRAINE WINNER🇺🇦❤🥇🏆🔥
For me, this is the song to beat currently. I know a lot of people are loving Brividi (as am I), but the question of whether the host country can win back-to-back competitions is a strong factor that remains for me. Either way, I still think this has bigger impact moments and probably just edges it in terms of winning material. I know it might not be everyones cup of tea, and even I am not personally a massive fan of the rap section of the song. The chorus, however, is incredible, and whilst half of it is in Ukrainian, it has such an emotional and powerful melody that personally gives me goosebumps. Coupled with the ongoing situation surrounding Ukraine and Russia at the current moment which I think could also have a big impact on voting, this has to be a strong contender, and for me, is currently the winner of Eurovision 2022.
Это не реп часть, это речитатив и именно от него я просто в культурном шоке. Очень нравиться.
You're right. Bird imagery IS part of the Ukrainian culture. Ukrainians call the Ukrainian language "a nightingale language." Those are synonyms.
I like this song. This will get really high points
Billion points from Serbia. My winner.
Thank you 💛💙
This could be a global watershed moment at Eurovision, where the world will take note and praise Ukraine for their bravery and musicality. This has a 90's beatnik spoken word vibe but, reflects the current situation occurring right now, everything about this gives me tingles, and deserves to win full heartedly and unreservedly. Alina is a artist but, in the same way that Lady Gaga is a artist. Gaga never did the cookie cutter pop star routine, she never conformed to fit the mould to get her music out there she did her own thing and got what she deserved a critical universal global response and is now one of the most influential musicians and artists of all time. Alina Pash falls in the same category, she uses a personal story which is shared my millions of Ukrainians about the current events unfolding. I give her my most sincere kudos for her artistry and her bravery. Brava Alina Pash.
P.S: Given the situation in Ukraine, it is almost a certainty that Ukraine cannot host the next contest if they win so, would the 2nd place be asked to take the hosting reigns, would a bidding process take place amongst all competing nations who are interested in hosting or would a automatic neutral ground host be established. I would like to know your thoughts on this, Wiwibloggs and all those who comment.
Oh yes, let's finally openly turn the song contest into a political event (sarcasm). Like with Jamala, EBU again will have to make up tons of pretense that “it's not political at all” again.
Do not underestimate us. Ukraine would host Eurovision in case of winning
@@maxmax-hv4ck The things is - there is not one part of the song or lyrics that relates to anything controversial. Embrace your past, but make your future your own - highly controversial 😏
It only allows people to make their own interpretations and thoughts. What do you expect the EBU to do? Police everyone's thoughts and minds?
In my opinion we won’t win because juries will not like this song very much/ will be too scared to give us a lot of points
Thank you guys!
This song is completely amazing. Hands down this was the best song in the Ukrainian National Selection. I am certain this will finish top 10 if not top 5 at Eurovision, its just sublime. Its battling Italy for my current favourite song.
Thanks from Ukraine 🇺🇦❤️🇺🇦
Possible winner
Great review, as always. Thank you!
Thanks Oleksii!
Welcome to another top 5 Ukraine :)
Deban 😀12 points for William and Deban.
I'm so happy you reunited!!!
Such a great melodic song is always a potential winner (see fairytail, Duncan etc.) . It don't need the zeitgeist or politics.
Hello 👋 I am glad you both in a good mood and happy that Deban is content with this entry. Remember the phase when traditional singing was just a noise to him? It seems you have accustomed to east European traditional music and I am happy about that, because no country should be ashamed to show its folklore or traditional heritage. I understand that some people will feel tired of traditional meaningful song for another row, but it’s literally one of two best songs we had on our NF. I wish it was happy and uplifting too, like Roxolana’s Girlz, but she was bad live at stage. Traditional and modern mix music is really popular nowadays in Ukraine. Thank you 🙏
She is gorgeous 😍
I'm crying, this is such a touching song! Hello from Ukraine! 🇺🇦💙💛

Ukraine 🇺🇦 🇺🇦 🇺🇦
So NICE to see you 2 guys together again in a room.... Love you both !
Look, the context matters. It just does. This same song coming from UK would not have the same impact or vibe. We know what's happening in the world right now, and Ukraine is in the center of it all, and this songs message amplifies that further. It hits hard, the spoken word part is amazing, I did have some troubles understanding it but she can work on that, I'm sending all the love to Ukraine and rooting for their result
thank you!
....actually....it does not. Just imagine if each country would sing about troubles in their society or politics in such a blatant way. That would we a pathetic song competition. Like "Who is screwed the most 2022" 😂. And you know what, most of the people would not even look. But when you have one country which chooses to go that way, then everyone looks. It is like when one thing happens everywhere, nobody notices, while when it happens once, it draws attention. The thing with Ukraine is that they have already played on this card and i think that this time it is a bit too much. Also, now when seeing this, I wonder why did Bulgaria give up this year by sending a song so quickly and the one which so below their standard. Hmmm....did they know something?
@@alexalexiye9791 but its not about 2022. Ukraine has never had a break, and the song is about reflecting on the past. When you reflect on the past of Ukraine, you see an Endless amount of wars with no actual Freedom.
If you reflect at the history of the UK, you see Kings beheading their wives and colonizing and abusing poorer countries. Its not the same, and the context matters. This is also exactly why Russia gets booed at eurovision every time they send a song about keeping peace. Its like a wolf saying we shouldnt eat sheep
@@dagu1801 Yes, Ukraine did not have luck during history, but I am coming from the Balkans, and it has not been the most blessed place in the world throughout the history. What about Poland? Finland? Lichtenstein even? Oh wait wait....Israel. This attitude adds nothing to music and artistry, and is purely based on politics. And I feel that as someone who follows ESC, I have right to criticize this, because if this is going to turn into who-cries-the-most-beautifully-contest, this is not ESC I like and I am not going to follow ESC more.
@@alexalexiye9791 I’m afraid, as Ukrainian, that many Europeans will criticize this song because of too “political” context, but still the song is not bad, and Alina is a really talented artist (you may listen and watch a lot of great things on her channel) I believe, the song is like her personal and national cry at the same time. If you don’t like or relate to it, just ignore. If you ask me, I don’t want Ukraine to win this year, and I don’t expect it to. Qualifying to the final is totally ok for me.
I sense a potential 3rd victory for Ukraine!
Yes
💯
I have been so exited to hear this❤️
Thank you! Hilarious reaction🌻💙💛
3:06 following 🤣😭😂 William can't comprehend how good the song is and Deban just doesn't care at ALL and says the lyrics of 1944 🤣 Deban and William combo is the best!

Love to finally see you two in the same room again, I really missed your dynamic when reacting together! 🙏🏼
Stand firm with your choice Ukraine beautiful 🥰❤️💕
She is a bird. A bird of peace. Everything about her beautiful performance screams for attention to the political situation in Ukraine. She is calling and beging for peace with every motion she is making, her eyes are seeing through my soul. I think maybe she is even saying that Russia and Ukraine have a past, a history and ancestors and it can be remembered, but now it's time to write each their own history.
This is a 2022 update to 1944. She is very striking, I love everything about it, for being, True, authentic, empowering; love the musicality, and I love that it is folk and modern just like the message in the song. And most of all its not another empty song, it has a purpose, and that's why the emotions are so strong and will reach to so many audiences hearts!
Ukraine favourite
Love it!

Im very happy to see deban and william together in the same room again!

The only thing i’m worried about now is if something happens that will cancel Ukraine’s participation that will deprive us of this stunning performance on the eurovision stage 🤭

Will you react on Dora 22? The songs are out.
Amazing reaction! Cool and professional!
Picasso's drawing Dove of Peace is kept in one of the Ukrainian museums.
It's amazing
Ukraine is in a state of war with Russia and if we LIVE in this state of fear with all our documents packed just in case. So yes, we choose a song that we relate to the most at the moment. I was planning to vote for another song, but this song just got me goosebumps and shivers all over my body so I could not resist voting for her instead
I’m more in love with Estonia/Stefan’s “Hope” right now, but I feel “Shadows” has the stronger shot at winning Eurovision. Ironically, both have undertones of national pride and defiance against dangers from outside forces (Read “Hope’s” lyrics and tell me Stefan *ain’t” thumbing his nose at Russia).
what do you mean by Stefan thumbing his nose at Russia ?
just curious
@@ilyaajud7966 There are lyrics like “We're standing tall and looking up, our Father would be proud. And I'm happy to be working my own ground,” and “We'll be the last ones breathing here.” Suggesting they’re ready to fight for the land of their fathers and the land from which they make their living from.”
@@wrightblan1501 omg, buy brains
Nice to see you together again, and not in split screens.

It's not only about Ukraine it's about humanity, a call to remember own culture and not turn into a faceless mediocre product of globalization. And if ruSSian invasion into Ukraine escalates to full-scale it can turn into a UNIVERSAL catastrophe, if you keep in mind that there are 10 nuclear power stations in Ukraine, compared to the effect of Chernobyl (explosion of just 1 reactor of 4). You can imagine what this war in Ukraine can bring to the whole planet. So the "Divine tragedy" nowadays could turn to be about sending humankind to the afterlife, as Dante's "Divine Comedy" was about the afterlife journey of a soul.
It's about fishing for political sympathy tele-votes in a current geopolitical climate.
@@abis1688 ruSSian troll with the same junk every time. :)) It's the REALITY of the current world, with all the dangers imposed by aggressors, dictators, and such.
the whole world is against russia and do you really think that russia is going to “invade” ukraine when the whole world is against us ?

This wasn't my personal choice in Vidbir (roxolana girlzz/stefania) but it's hard to stay mad when Ukraine always sends something so unique and refreshing. I think the spoken word/rap part will be so enticing and a real superstar moment.
