Great Tip with the software for the Push 2. After changing from Maschine to Ableton and Push ( because I am using a bunch of Hardware Synthesizer) I‘m composing more and more in Arrangement view. I really like the session view collecting ideas very fast. But often it is the same problem that I had in Maschine. Lot‘s of small parts but no song. The arrangement mode helps me more to think and compose in a way to create a whole song from beginning to it‘s end. So this software for the Push is a huge upgrade for me. Thank you for this video
Use session view to get your loops… then transfer them to arrangement view when you want to hammer down the actual song arrangement. This allows you to put everything in place and you can silence specific notes if they don’t sound right on a part of the arrangement.
Unwieldy though isn’t it and defeats what JG is trying to do……that’s the only workaround I can think of except for making clips that begin and end for certain sections….still unwieldy
Thanks for putting this together Jeff. I’ve been contemplating getting Push 2 and this video really help me through my decision making. Looking forward to your third Beats and Chat video. 👍🏼
Thanks CV! If you’re an Ableton user I’d highly recommend it. Only caveat is that it’s now pretty old, I‘ve got no idea if there’s another one coming any time soon! Could always look in the used market though.
Jef, for your clip triggering problem, have you tried just hitting the scene play button. I think that should start all the clips in the scene together. If the shorter clips are set to loop I think this will accomplish what you are trying to do. Ableton separates the main transport from Session view so that loop-based performers can play their set into the arrangement view. I really enjoy your content, thanks for all that you do.
4:49 In Session View the clips/loops can have their own start point independent from the loop region. Move the left start pointer earlier or later in the loop. There is a setting where Ableton will wait for the next 'round' before it starts playing the clip/loop. If this doesn't answer your question and what you're trying to achieve then Arrangment View will do it. Session View is great for generating ideas and is very fast. Throw some random loops in, fire them off and have lots of fun. BUT be very careful not to get trapped in a loop. Move over to Arrangment View quickly if you come up with something you'd like to develop further.
@@jefgibbons See this video of what James Wiltshire from F9 Audio does with a screen full of disco loops in Session View. Each clip could be a midi file playing a VST, an audio loop or rex file (of any length), a one shot piece of audio (eg. sound effect) or a full audio track (eg. mp3, etc). Ableton keeps the beat going with everything all in sync. Lots of endless fun can be had. ruclips.net/video/pdIwnEFr4i8/видео.html
@@jefgibbons So this means any audio file or midi file on your hard drive can be chopped up, looped, re-pitched, beat warped and time streched and Ableton will keep the whole lot perfectly synced up. They can be fired off at any time in any order and Ableton will keep the beat going. This is all before setting up any knobs to control any audio effects or filters! The possibilties are truely endless with many happy accidents and hours of fun to be had. Jef, how many sample packs & expansion packs, loops, MP3s, midi files and VSTs do you have on your hard drive that you could throw into Ableton's Session View to play around with like what you saw in the F9 Audio video? 👀😱😂😂😂
At last Jeff! It’s been a long time coming. Looking forward to going on the journey with you into the Ableton world ! The arrangement view is very good too!
Very happy to see you’re finally coming over to the dark side! And definitely agree on two things: The warp feature was a game changer and still sets ableton apart, I’m kinda surprised that still no one has come close to matching it. And secondly, I would love (and use) my push so much more, or on a much wider scale at least, if they added some collaboration or support for other plug-ins! Even just an NKS style ecosystem that other companies can write to.
Thanks Hamish! Yeah!! I love that you can load up pigments in Maschine and it’s beautifully set up. The Push2 has such a nice display ripe for 3rd party collab!
Go into packs to narrow down your kits which also have a description of what’s in the packs which always helps. Also on your clips there is a bar start function which when trigger it will allow the midi to start on a certain bar and end also. Clips can also trigger by following a end of another midi clip.
Your expertise + Ableton content is a marriage made in heaven. I've been with Ableton for over a year (from Cubase, Bitwig, LogicProX) and I'm never going to switch from Ableton. I recently took a romp through those other DAWs and ran back to Ableton SO FAST (Cubase and licensing crap, Logic Pro's pretty and bloated UI, Bitwig's adolescence... ). There are too many strengths to iterate here. The split between Session and Arrangement view is their core IP. How logical is it to first create segments of your song and then, with the other part of your brain, arrange those into something interesting (dropouts, builds, etc). The concept has been copied by others now (LogicPro, Bitwig, .. ). And the Push2 - It's AMAZING! I don't have a need for more Push2 tools like PAM2. I bounce between my computer and the Push2 for different phases of my creative process. There are things that just have to be done on the laptop - renaming tracks, reorganizing things, and I use my computer mostly for arranging. I like the Mixer on the Push2 also. In terms of third party products, I've got them all grouped into instrument racks with custom controls that are mapped to Push2 encoders - all very slick - but it's I think an advanced concept. I only have about 5 third party products so it's not a burdern to map them. You could also just buy more Ableton Packs - they integrate the best and sound great as well. Also, learn their core instruments - they have all forms of synthesizers and they are as easy to program as Vital, Pigments, etc ... make your own presets! The only thing I am looking for from Ableton right now is a better browser experience in order to find samples and sound presets more easily based on characteristics. I think native Instruments, Arturia and u-He have the browser preset experience nailed.
Played drums when I was younger and not much more music experience other than that and I’m super interested in the push 2 first time in years I’m interested in making music again anyway this video is my first I see of you and a lot of pushed 2 videos has been watched and I must say wow you really got it right so I’m say here place make many more I will be buying the push 2 this year would like to know what I need to get started besides the laptop connectors and so on and more of what you can do maybe some thing like A course there is one guy I saw that made really good song also has courses on the push 2 but I like the way you present it
I think I'm gonna love relearning Ableton along with you, Jef. I think you'll be amazed. I'm a Maschine and Ableton user and I love them both. But I think Ableton is just more versatile if you want to use a lot of plugins along with it. Also for automating stuff I just like it better. I love the fact that I can get that Maschine vibe in Session view. I also think the road is gonna be easier and more fun with the help of your viewers!
Appreciate it Bastian! I’m gonna have fun with it too… definitely triggers new ideas every time I learn a new program… maybe different parts of the brain??
15:53 I can see a Push 3 coming soon with these very issues highlighted by Jeff. Great to see you “Push”ing the envelope and accelerating the need for an update to the aging Push 2. 🤩👍 Ps Those 25 mins flew in. Great video.
There is also a way to create a Maschine drum rack in Ableton that will allow you to step sequence using Push 2. It's a little tedious setup but you can save it as a template.
@@jefgibbons I’d also be interested in seeing any workflow tips you’d have on using Maschine and Push 2 together aside from just like taking the samples from Maschine expansions and loading ‘em up as a drum rack in Live. I love the tactile feel of Maschines pads so it would be cool to see a workflow where you could start a sketch on Maschine and seamlessly (as possible) get it into Live for further processing with Live/Push 2 Love your videos by the way, I’m also fairly new to Live so I’m very excited to join along in this journey you’re taking with it since I know what I know about Maschine because of you! Cheers
Hey Jef, big fan of your videos. No one better for Maschine. I’m interested in combining Maschine inside of Ableton with Push, ever considered doing a video on that?
Hi Jeff, I'm not sure if you found this by now. Session Mode is hard to navigate in some ways since you can restart clips from any point, but using the Legato Function in Clip Launch options & remembering that most of those launch options are tied to Global Quantize might make it easier. I understand what you say, I love Session as well, but those small details can be hard to work around. Interesting video, thanks.
Hi, Jeff. Thanks for all you contribute to helping some of us to get a handle on the many tools offered. I also use Ableton Live and Push2. But I use Cubase, Maschine and Pro Tools, too. Perhaps you can share how you decide which DAW to use when doing a project for someone else or composing a new piece?
Thanks for the video, I didn't realize the Push2 displayed that much information. I picked up both Push and Push 2 units early in the pandemic for $100 bucks each and all I have done is plug them in and test the pads and knobs to make sure they both worked. When I saw what the retail and used prices were I was flabbergasted to say the least. Many times I've thought about selling one or both but every time I see a video of someone using either of the two I get excited and promise myself I'm going to just dig in and get to it. Your video showed my a completely different outlook on how the push 2 works (features) so once again the (2) push units have been saved from being sold. Thanks again for the video. Looking forward to more Abelton and Push videos as well as those on Maschine. Over the past two years? I have learned a lot from you. Thanks again. Oh by the way the Sweatsuit is a timeless piece of fashion, can't go wrong with that one.
Thanks!! Appreciate the support! Glad it helped, and I’m just getting started! Yeah, I can’t stress enough how important an integrated hardware system is to a DAW. It makes working so much more fun, and it seems like Maschine, push2 and MPC’s great looking stuff are really the best options out there. I’m betting most Push users just haven’t gotten past the convenience of using a mouse and keyboard, but if you force yourself to use the hardware it’s quite an incredible experience!
@@CoreyMcKinneyJr ... and STILL, lol! I'm not buying a Push 3 at least until maybe a year. Too many things on it I DON'T NEED. I'm good still with the 2... but I trust Prof G's opinion and views. Whenever he revisits this piece of gear, i'll be waiting...
Love this! I've used Ableton for years, with a brief foray into Maschine (with which your channel helped). I got enough money for legit Ableton and a Push and I love it, but it has so many functions I find myself forgetting stuff. That velocity bit on the drum rack for instance. Completely forgot about that!
Awesome video. Thanks Jef! It adds to my Ableton stoke, and that PAM software looks like a fantastic addition, at least for the current firmware level on the Push2. I have high hopes for future additions to address what you were referring to here, but it's an amazing tool as it is.
Thank you for sharing this information. It look great and it is nice to see theres so many button to assign. I am using StudioOne, and I hope that the push can use on it as well.
Had the push one. It was a nice but with a very flimsy shell . Its nice to see a wood enclosure to protect the cash it worth. The thing bends/flex qnd break some hard plastic pins inside. I think maschine plus has the same flexible aspect, despites never touched one. If one day could afford another one I"ll do like you did, a wooden case/shell from start.
I am Maschine MK3 owner - I am really happy with the workflow, Im also owner of Arturia Synths collection, and thats how I can look for sounds (presets), play on pads - its my favourite part, like everything is in the box. When I want to finish my track, I send it to Ableton and it works great to arrange. Can you get same workflow on Push? I mean, way you can browse your presets just turning one knob and applying etc. I got really cheap notebook, need to buy new one, and Im gonna work more straight in Ableton. How is your overall comparision of the creating process, without basic Ableton plugins but extrrnal, and using Push? Regards!
Btw, since you're a Maschine guy... and you mentioned how you love to jog through your timeline (the Push 2 Arrange Mode script)... I know you're not a Reaper guy but I made a huge Reaper midi map thing that includes jogging and transport, for a huge amount of midi controllers (Maschine MK3, MK2, Mikro MK2, Studio, Jam) as well as Arturia Minilab MK2, Keylab Essential, Behringer X-Touch Mini, Novation Launchkey MK3, SL MK3, etc. Can't live without a jog wheel when making music, mostly mouseless. Something to consider if you ever get into Reaper!
Looks like such an appealing way to work with such a large TV display. I'm tempted to do the same, replacing the 27 inch 4k monitor behind my M1 Pro with one. Coincidentally, I already have the same A7X monitors, Push 2/ Maschine and Microfreak on my desk, so may as well clone the rest ;) Though I recently switched out the Komplete Kontrol on my Studio Desk with a Hydrasynth, since I've grown to love its polyA expressivity so much. Thinking about dedicating my Intel Mac mini to Maschine and NI plugins for now, bringing the audio over Dante to my MacBook Pro, unless they port the rest of their catalog to Apple Silicon soon.
Jef, Thanks for the youtube and suggestions. I have just downloaded PAM (Push-ArrangeMode) v2.1 and installed on the latest Ableton firmware (i think) 11.2.11 , however getting a message that the device (PAM) is not available in this version of Live. Has anyone else experienced this recently with a new install? Also if there is a contact with the developer that can be shared would be really appreciated to follow up on this. Cheers!
Some stuff that might help, Jef... when you start recording into a clip/session slot... before the bar comes back around, hit the record button to come out of record, and then you'll get a perfect loop, instead of manually stopping and using the mouse. Also, yeah... the loop lengths thing is a pain, per-clip. But I think that's what makes Ableton fun... just triggering stuff at random positions. Or setting the "clip start" to a different bar/beat. Hitting the stop button twice quickly is useful for going back to the beginning of your arrangement, btw. And, definitely make use of "Stop All Clips" button... that removes the play button from the clips, so you can trigger your clips to your liking, timing-wise, when you press play again (or trigger a single clip to start playback). Hope that helps! Great video, as always, sir. Re: Push 2 Arrange Mode-- it would have been SO good if they used the notched encoder (tempo) for scrubbing by bar, instead of the one on the right.... maybe in a future update!
Awesome video! I have the same problem with session mode, driving me crazy that I have to use arranger mode then. Also discovered PAM2 last month, amazed that Ableton hasn't added this to push. When I am on Maschine, I miss Ableton features and vice versa, they should copy more from each other... I miss one thing in your video, how to control Ableton with the Komplete Kontrol Keyboard, it has very nice features.
That’s true!! I wanted to keep this vid free from sponsorship since I was given the keyboard from NI, but I’ll definitely do that in the future. The KK adds a jog wheel!!!
Hi Jeff. Great video as aways. There are a way to play from somewhere on all clips together from the session view, but is much easier to show than try to explain in words. I’ll try to make a video asap to show you this.
I was also very impressed by Push2... And till today I find old features, which are obviously old.. for example the two window feature... that was one I discovered in your video.. after research: it was added 2018 😀
great video, thanks for the info, as you like NI, do you know you can put the machine jam with the push, and use them as a pair, that way you get to see the session view on your jam, while your in note on your push, plus you get sliders for the macros using the machine jam, all in real time shown elegantly on the push 2 screen. and many other features. hope you enjoy the push i do. all the best.
It’s so highly rated by its devotees…I have it as well as maschine……maschine incomparable in design…..push 2 falls apart with the encoders. Continually stretching over the screen…..ok….it might work if you’re standing up…..but not everyone performs in that way…..sitting down always have the screen blocked and everyone of us as users…..well we all go through that….rubber arm technique…I thought I’d learn a few things from this and certainly did…the wood ears are nice….mine sits on the same angle…..flat on table sitting down a pain…..it shines with Shove and the ability to use with other Daw’s…….as always a damn fine tutorial.
lol...Where on opposite sides. I am just learning MK3 after using Ableton Live since version 3 2004ish. I also was a sound designer for Sample Magic. Producing Ableton Live synth racks that would have a 127 synth sounds mapped to macro one. As you turned the macro value 1-127 each was a synth preset. Talk about very interesting when recording automation on macro 1 between synth presets. And other macros were mapped to different functions as well. ADSR, Filters and LFOs. You could map serval functions to one macro. Supper intuitive. I do miss it. I sold my push. What a undertaking task that was...lol. I had to find synth gear, sample it....old style way...lol with extreme mapping, and hidden tricks to make it all work together. As if that was enough, SM required that I do another FX Rack that was package with the synth rack. It had to be very interesting, Typical FX were not accepted, I mean i had usual FX, but had to sound super and very useful . And to top it off, I had to create 4min demo that had at least 6 or 7 tracks showing off a number of sounds from the synth rack and automation to showcase its abilities with smooth transitions from one track to the next all in under 4 or 3mins. I remembered one track I recorded my voice on the Korg Volca Sampler to add to some tracks (Detroit Style)....Man what a time I had. Loved it! I enjoyed 6 or 7 commercial releases, was a great time in my life. Ableton was good for that. Now after watching this I am tempted to get back into it and make another Synth rack. I am eyeing my Junos as I type...lol.
Been using Push 2 since it came out but I didn’t know about that PAM plug-in! Definitely getting that! Also the same person created clip gain in timeline which is what I’ve been missing! Thanks man! This will be a game changer if these work well
Ableton is a beast for sound design and automation !! It's really like an advance Maschine !! I still can't get use to the inspector being in the right lol. Never the less Ableton has been a head scratcher for me as well !!
Ooh... thanks for covering this Jeff... coming from a master of Cubase, as yourself. I've am definitely an Ableton user and am still trying to wrap my brain around either a Push 2 or a Maschine MK3. I already have a pile of NI, having the full Komplete 13 (not ultimate) and a NI S49, as well. So mainly, my issue, is that I am already used to the NI interface - a bit. However, that Push 2 looks scary. LOL. Do you think I would benefit from getting a Push or a Maschine? I lean towards the Maschine, of course, as I am bias. To answer that question around 5 minutes in... I'd refer to @Chris Caulder's comments here and add, once you are really starting to work on an arrangement, its time to get out of the session view and into the arrangement. There are a lot of producers, such as EDMTips and Sanjay, that work from the start right out of arrangement view.
Hey Rainer! If you are an Ableton user I think push makes a lot of sense. Maschine wouldn’t integrate as well… You’ll still be able to use all of your Komplete stuff… but I like my workflow in Maschine better, but I started there!!
@@jefgibbons Thank you! Love the Maschine interface and have even used Maschine in just software mode (thx Sanjay), but yes, it would make life easier just working straight into the DAW. That thing still looks scary, if a Push had 16 pads, I would already be in. LOL. I guess the only other dream that I would wait on is the Push 3 comes out, but who knows.
How improve push your workflow? And how much quicker do you need to finish your tracks? Actually I can consider this controller as a device which doubling Ableton functions only.
Forst I know this vid is older, but I have a question. Also I LOVE the big screen. Im tirning 46 and my eyes arent what they used to be. I NEED that! Question for you Sir, opinion maybe? In a 2 person indie thing, me on guitar and vox, partner triggering dums and bass and key loops and ambient stuff with a keyboard and some vox. In 2022 as long as this box has been out there, is it still worth it, is it what we need for studio and live in a 2 man band doing indie music. Basically partner is the band in the box. But this box with suite is really expensive, and old.. Could we run this and a keyboard at the same time without conflicting? Would I be better off with Novation gear and buying suite by itself. Im a Reaper user. Im not very familiar with Ableton or electronic music. But I have to figure it out.
Hey Simon! ‘76 was a great year, all the best stuff came out then!😜 and I know all about the eyes thing… Good question on the Push2. It is old, and I’m not sure when the next one is coming… but it reeeeally is tied to the Live system. If you’re using all Live instruments and fx it’s incredible! Other instruments aren’t as amazing on it. Therefore… I’d say you should download the demo of Live and commit an intense month to it to see if it’s your thing. It’s definitely meant for live playing like you are talking about. But with deep integration to the Live ecosystem!
@@jefgibbons Thanks for taking the time to help me out. I think Im on the same page as you. Thank you very much! You helped us a lot! Your vids have been very helpful.
Hey! Liking your vids.can you add some detail on how to install PAM2? Your video shows it in your plugin folder. When i drag to the master a message reads this device is not supported in Live. Thanks
The issue that you were having with midi editing in the Session View really has no solution in the Session View. For that type of editing, you would need move over to the Arrangement View, which would function like any other linear DAW. The Arrangement View is where you would be able to edit midi data in reference/position to other tracks. Remember, Ableton Live started out as a "Live" performance program. That's why the Session View behaves the way that it does. It's designed to trigger clips which could be of various lengths. The clip triggering can be quantized or unquantized, looped or not looped. You can do all of this "on the fly" without committing to ANY type of linear timeline. It's all up to you. It's the ultimate scratchpad. This is also why they Push 2 doesn't really have any native control over the Arrangement View. You found a third party program to address some of those needs, but they didn't come built in to Ableton Live. Push 1 and 2 were both designed to work with the Session View. I use Ableton Live with two monitors. This allows me to have the Session and Arrangement View open at the same time. It really makes moving clips or loops back and forth between the Session and Arrangement a lot easier. For someone like yourself who is coming from a linear DAW like Cubase, some of Live's behavior may seem foreign. It's like learning a new language. When you learn a new language, you'll have to think in your native language first. Give yourself time, and you'll easily be able to think in Ableton.
how do people find the quantization setting in ableton compare to those in maschine? I prefer maschine, I'm not sure why, maybe its the ability to quantize to 50%
I think ableton is a cool and innovative daw no doubt but j can’t stop using Cubase. In my opinion there is no better daw than Cubase. I’ve used them all from logic to ableton, reason, studio one and Cubase has them all beat. Love the video thi. Always a pleasure to watch
One of the strengths of Live, especially with Push, is to arrange a song on the fly triggering clips and scenes. Your videos inspired me to revisit Maschine, but I believe that kind of performance arranging in Maschine isn't possible. Am I wrong?
@@minusyou1 Not sure if this is exactly what you mean, but here is one vid, and there's an explainer vid I made right after it: ruclips.net/video/HIhhEhBNxfY/видео.html
@@jefgibbons Great jam session! But it's not quite what I am talking about. As an example lets say just the drum track and there are 8 different patterns (clips in Live). When you go to record an arrangement in Live from session view you can launch those different clips live throughout the recording and the clip performance will be what ends up in the arrangement recording. Apply that same concept to all the available tracks, launching different clips on different tracks while it records all of that performance. In Maschine it seems you are tied to creating scenes. You can't just fire off (and stop) different patterns throughout to create a final arrangement.
I’ve tried hard to get to learn and like Ableton, but i just can’t stand the UI, I don’t know why….. anyways, great videos ! Greetings from Mexico City bro

Tough call! If you’re an Ableton user primarily I’d suggest the Push… you can still open NI stuff in there… but going to Maschine is a huge paradigm shift, and you’ll get more out of the Push…. Just my thoughts!
@@jefgibbons and with push 2 i could use the screen for native instrumen plugins too? Or only map midi to the pads and knobs? (By the way i could mal midi in the same way for ableton native plugins in mk3 right?) With push 2 can i use massive x or what plugins shoudl i use instead?
Never been interested in AL. Always thought the GUI was ghastly (for a start). Plus seemed to be the preserve of people who considered a 'performance' to consist of nodding about while adjusting the cut-off. Better than Maschine or just different?

Fair enough Jef. Good points well made - as always. Love my Maschine Mk3 though saying that, have a Toraiz Squid on the way. Going to be er, interesting to see if they'll play nicely together (or not lol) via Logic/Maschine2
Jef! As a Maschine user I really feel you are going to absolutely fall in love with Ableton. It’s better at doing what Maschine software does than the Maschine software is. And that’s not a knock on Maschine. It’s just a more complete Daw but it does have a learning curve!! I enjoy using both I believe you will too. I will say I think Maschine mk3 is a better groove box than the Push2.

Ableton keeps the beat going with everything all in sync. Lots of endless fun can be had. ruclips.net/video/pdIwnEFr4i8/видео.html
@@djdrwatson sweet vid! That amount of clips is bonkers!
Thanks so much! Yeah, really digging what I’m seeing here…
Loving your channel, enjoyable and informative. I've subscribed. would love more Push 2 and Ableton vids please, maybe a live loop would be great.
Good tips, and definitely the packs help sort things!
This could probably help, ruclips.net/video/EKPhIWFu9uU/видео.html
Ps Those 25 mins flew in. Great video.
Ableton has said over and over they are not currently developing a new push and they have no plans to right now.
Unc Jef!!! Always appreciate your vids/ knowledge! Have a blessed weekend
You too V, thanks!
There is also a way to create a Maschine drum rack in Ableton that will allow you to step sequence using Push 2. It's a little tedious setup but you can save it as a template.
Please point me in that direction!
Yes! Great step sequencing abilities.
@@mosesgee @sanjayc has a video on it. The same technique also works for battery and other apps like XLN XO.
I read this wrong the first time and missed the Maschine part! Yes, definitely worth integrating the two programs!
@@jefgibbons I’d also be interested in seeing any workflow tips you’d have on using Maschine and Push 2 together aside from just like taking the samples from Maschine expansions and loading ‘em up as a drum rack in Live.
I love the tactile feel of Maschines pads so it would be cool to see a workflow where you could start a sketch on Maschine and seamlessly (as possible) get it into Live for further processing with Live/Push 2
Love your videos by the way, I’m also fairly new to Live so I’m very excited to join along in this journey you’re taking with it since I know what I know about Maschine because of you!

Hey Jef, big fan of your videos. No one better for Maschine. I’m interested in combining Maschine inside of Ableton with Push, ever considered doing a video on that?
Wow! That's a bigh a55 screen, dude! Thanks for sharing your insights on the Push 2!
We are really looking forward to the update for version 12
Great video! I been a Push 2 owner for years and couldn't imagine making beat with out it.
Thanks Ave! Yeah man, it’s a great system!
Can you please do more Ableton and Push 2 tutorials? Every week I cross my fingers hoping you’ll come back and revisit this… Thank you in advance 🙌🏾🫡
YES PLEASE!!!!
Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us!
Love this! I've used Ableton for years, with a brief foray into Maschine (with which your channel helped). I got enough money for legit Ableton and a Push and I love it, but it has so many functions I find myself forgetting stuff. That velocity bit on the drum rack for instance. Completely forgot about that!
Kudos Jef, congrats on getting Push 2. I don’t know why I’ve waited so long to get one.
Thanks Chris! I’ll definitely keep that in mind!
Cheers!
Ableton is that 🔥🔥🔥 I've been using FL Studio over 10 years.. But I'm good with Ableton for using it within a year..
Great tips! I’m sure the PAM2 maker would be up for requests as well, I’m sure he’ll see this comment!
Would love a video on how to play chords and other instrument based creative techniques with Push 🥰
Use it as a plug-in. Drag it onto a midi track
@@badmilk1735 You can use PAM as a plugin? I thought it's a M4L device. The PAM seems awesome and I'm surely gona get it!
I really gotta try that out!
These days I use a bit of everything, and love how each program elicits different results creatively!
This set up is how want my upgrade to be!!! NI Komplete Kontrol with Abelton Push!!! Play keys on Kontrol and drum programming on Push!!!
Been using Push 2 since it came out but I didn’t know about that PAM plug-in! Definitely getting that! Also the same person created clip gain in timeline which is what I’ve been missing! Thanks man! This will be a game changer if these work well

@@jefgibbons I find it to be painful. But split view made it easier to work in for me !!
When can we get some more Ableton/Push tutorials?
Ooh... thanks for covering this Jeff... coming from a master of Cubase, as yourself.
I love my push 2 song ideas just fly out now
It flows really nicely! Just need a dang jog wheel…
Hey Simon! ‘76 was a great year, all the best stuff came out then!😜 and I know all about the eyes thing…
Good question on the Push2.

Im an mpc user, but im starting to feel that abelton has similar features and also has features that i wish the mpc had.
Thanks! Yeah, I agree with everything you said!
Jef you can also have both session and arrangement view or split view on your TV ..no need for 2 monitors. I learn't this from Loopop !!
@@DoctorJRx Yes! @Loopop is the best ;)
It’s because you have to set The Zoom Selection Tool to play what you want it’s very flexible.
Thanks Roger, but it still starts all other clips at their beginning! Try it out… start at bar 3 of a clip and the others start at zero…
how do people find the quantization setting in ableton compare to those in maschine? I prefer maschine, I'm not sure why, maybe its the ability to quantize to 50%

One of the strengths of Live, especially with Push, is to arrange a song on the fly triggering clips and scenes. Your videos inspired me to revisit Maschine, but I believe that kind of performance arranging in Maschine isn't possible. Am I wrong?
Hey Mike! It’s definitely possible on Maschine! Patterns and scenes can be displayed just like they do on Push. But the 64 pads is a huge advantage!
@@jefgibbons Hmm. I'll have to research further. Or you can do a demo video of recording an arrangement live on Maschine. 😃

If i have ableton suite 11 and komplete ultimate and a launchpad pro mk2 . Which should i buy, maschine mk3 or push2?
With push2 can i use native instrument plugins and audio effects?
With maschine mk3 can control and view ableton plugins and audio effectd?

With push 2 can i use massive x or what plugins shoudl i use instead?
Never been interested in AL. Always thought the GUI was ghastly (for a start). Plus seemed to be the preserve of people who considered a 'performance' to consist of nodding about while adjusting the cut-off. Better than Maschine or just different?
The look: I remember thinking that ages ago when comparing it to Reason with all of the wood and cables and fans, it just looked too flat and boring... I was purchased Push2 and Ableton 3 years ago. It's an amazing Daw. But one year ago I also was purchased Cubase 11 Pro. :) And it's also great Daw. Your thoughts which is better? And what's your main Daw?
They both have strengths! I’d always go to Cubase for film composition, and sound design. Live is great for… well… live stuff!!
@@jefgibbons true! I bought Cubase, because can't do some things for film scoring. I started it in Live but it was so hard and I bought Cubase. And also already done the music for theatre performance in Cubase. Cubase is really hot!
@@АлександрДевятьяров-е7ю That's great! My first soundtrack was for a theatre production!
NI Maschine MK3 & Jam are many times better than Push 2. Too bad NI discontinued Jam.
If that blew your mind wait until you use copy and paste Time
I used Abelton for a few years as a composer and then I discovered Cubase. Never going back to Abelton. Abelton is good for Drum tracks and sound design but not for composing in my opinion.
I do think Cubase has the best MIDI editing features around coupled with their open key commands and macros!
Short comment: Bitwig Wins. :)
Mind blown you are not looking at Bitwig at this time..specially since you use hardware.
I just got the Polybrute as well..and Bitwig makes it insane 🙏
Definitely on the list, was researching it last week, but I don’t see a really integrated controller for bigwig yet, though I did see it working with push 2!
@@jefgibbons Also the reason I haven’t taken a leap into Bitwig. Already have a push 2, Maschine, and without the integration it doesn’t make sense.
@@jefgibbons Fair point - but if you look at it purely from a "making music and being creative" standpoint - Bitwig should surely be in the mix for someone like you. I LOVE your content btw :)
@@xerxes-music Thanks Klause! I'm looking forward to checking out Bitwig!

Got it today….Pam total no brainer…..there is life without it and with it…..they don’t even
compare……ableton should have built this into push 2…criminal they haven’t didn’t won’t…..
Honestly it needs to be built in… hire the PAM guy, he’s the best!
@@jefgibbons hey jeff...just thought i'd mention ...i only found out this morning that in cubase...but without setting up mapping ...and using 'shove software'...shove will allow for playing in notes....but that alongside that ...and i just didn't realize this...all the functions on push 2 either side of the 64 pads...are set up to control cubase.......totally insane.....meantime .,.Pam's a beast.
No man please!!! You too?????? I hate that program
Don’t worry, not leaving the others!!
@@jefgibbons Thank God! Nice content my man, keep going forward.
Oh time saving point for everyone wanting to get a PUSH 2. I has to be directly plugged into a USB port and not a hub !!
Hey Steven, my push is connected to a USB hub and it works just fine.
@@TheOnlyMichaelJames Dude no way lol !! when i bought mine i swear it was plugged into my hub..Won't do anything. I have a powered hub !! Then other users suggested direct USB plug in.. 1 day later all of a sudden it was alive !! What type of computer you got ?
@@DoctorJRx Mine is in a hub too! USB 3 powered hub into my Macs
@@jefgibbons could not get mine to work on my powered hub !! the screen just said ableton until i did direct plugin !!
