Great video! I always also have a way to collect people's info - a raffle usually does a good job at this - people write their info on a card / piece of paper and put it in a container and then they are automatically entered into your raffle. Or, you can have everyone 'lLIKE' your page and then have a raffle for all of the people on your page... I find it helps to build future clients on a database or member of a page, to read about your future business offerings. Well done Elysia!!! Bravo!!!

Take a garbage bag. It’s amazing how much trash you generate even when you don’t think you do.
At one show where I had an open plan booth, I built a demountable cupboard and covered the outside of it to match the walls of my booth. This way I had a place for my helpers and me to store our personal stuff safely along with the bits and pieces we needed during the show, like extra bags etc. Always have a hidey hole.

I could have done with watching this a few years back...we did craft shows and markets for 4 years and now we are in a B&M shop ...great video with spot on tips...taking your own food is a must and we used to provide bags for smaller items and don't forget your float plus you'll need a pad to write down all your sales, Take photos during the day to show on your local social media pages to entice more customers....I always had a foldable chair for anyone that needed a sit down elderly or not....and as you say Smile...Smile....Smile :)

Elysia you are so wonderful. I always wanted to handy with tools. Wish things were different when I was younger. I begged to be in wood shop in highschool but they discouraged us gals. I was so upset by this. Mid 70's was not that long ago. I now live vicariously through you and other women. Thanks again for sharing your talents and tips. You rock! 🌻

Great advice! I have been a crafter for years and go to many shows throughout the year (indoors and outdoors). A couple things I would add is to have mat to stand on at your payment center. Standing on concrete is horrible for my legs. The added cushion helps when you aren’t walking around. I rarely sit during a show.
Another thing is, Be Nice! Especially with your fellow crafters. I have seen too many crafters treat people just awful. If you go to many shows, you will see a lot of the same crafters over and over. We have developed a bond with many of them. You never know when you’ll need help and these people have been amazing to work with. It’s not about you versus them. You’re all there for the same reason.
One more little thing. We keep a basket of small suckers (Dum Dum’s and mini Tootsie Roll pops) on our check out station. Many times children are whining or impatient and just want to leave. You can lose a sale easy that way but by offering this small piece of candy often satisfies the child and lets the parent look around. (Always ask the parent first though)

I am so happy you mentioned concrete floors! I def would suggest a mat for standing on! My legs were dying after the first 4 hours! good tip! You have great tips! I am going to PIN your tips to the top of the comments so others don't miss them! Thanks so much Ginny!

As a veteran jewelry crafter, you have some great tips. A few of my own include 1. Bring help if you can, I bring tools and extra charms and gems so I can customize on the spot, while the other person is handling the sales. 2. Have a DVD presentation of you working, and past projects...it brings people in and invited custom orders. 3. Give discount to repeat customers. 4. Give a handshake, or place your hand on theirs when thanking them for their business and use their name of possible. Sometimes I forget their name, but I will remember what show they purchased something. I really enjoyed your presentation, you seem like a positive creative soul.

I love your videos! This video will help me finally do this. I have up cycled for a very long time and have wanted to find a way to make money at it because Im a stay at home mom. I recently was diagnosed with cancer and the medical bills are piling up. Honestly getting cancer was just the push I needed to make myself do this. Most people do not do what they really want to do because of fear. Having people like you go through your techniques really is priceless. I just had surgery to hopefully remove the cancer but bedridden for a while to recover. I now have the time to actually marathon watch your videos, LOL!! I have many tools and thingy- ma-jigs to help but, some things I did not know what the names were or how to do certain techniques. Im getting educated in the process. Thank you keep the videos coming.

Hi Jaime! I just wrote a comment to you and it disappeared! LOL! Anyway, I just read your comment and I want to ask you how your surgery went? Did they get the cancer? I also want to tell you that I love your comment. I love that you want to face your fear and you aren't allowing this diagnoses to destroy your hope and dreams. Your child(ren) are probably so proud of you and they will always know how strong and brave their mama is in the face of fear! You kick butt! Saying a prayer for you right now. :)

Jewels5241 thank you so much. We think the surgery got everything. Pathology on lymph nodes came back with no cancer!!! This is very informative, and you have a lot of great advice! As others have stated, I always have a basket or bowl with candy for the children (and adults like candy too!). One topic you didn't cover is taking a friend along to assist you. Let's be honest, a day at the show requires bathroom breaks! Its always good to have someone at your booth who knows your work and what it takes to make the products you sell. Another topic is loss/loss prevention. Theft at shows is always a possibility, as is customers damaging your products. I make jewelry, and put a lot of time into my designs. I had a customer (who appeared to be drunk) try to cram an intricate wire bracelet onto her wrist. I tried to assist her in unfastening the bracelet, but she wouldn't listen nor stop trying to slide it on like a bangle. Then she muttered something about my "stupid jewelry", threw it on the table and walked away. I was alone in my booth and couldn't go after her (another reason to have a friend along in your booth). The bracelet was badly misshapen and could not be repaired. A $50 bracelet, and a priceless lesson!

Hi I just happened upon your videos and I am loving them.....( this is probably my 7th video I watched) ! I definitely agree with you on difference between spring and Christmas shows....I did my first show at Christmas and we did well ...I was poached lol for a Spring show and took what felt like an apartment size move in of signs, small tables, shelves, etc and barely made our fee for the table....I said never again...looking forward to more trash to treasure videos....we aren’t allowed In our local dump so I’m jealous! We have to depend on curbside finds ...if we are lucky...thanks for sharing😊
