      I'll try my best! Basically, the amount of Uranium decays to half as much every 704 million years. (ex: if it started as 10 grams, then 704 mil years later there would be 5 grams.) In 2112 million years, 704 mil years has passed three times (because 3 x 704 = 2112). That means Uranium experienced three half lives. So we divide the original amount in half three times.

    • @Aurilaqq
      @Aurilaqq 3 месяца назад +1

      Think of half-life as the time it takes for something radioactive to lose half of its "stuff." If you have a jar of radioactive jelly beans, after one half-life, half of the jelly beans will have turned into something else. After another half-life, half of what's left will turn, and so on. It's like a continuous process of splitting things in half.
      Here is a sample problem: A radioactive substance has a half-life of 10 days. If you start with 100 grams of this substance, how much will remain after 20 days?
      We can start off by taking the number of time passing by and dividing that by half-life, which is 10 days in this case. So 20 days/10 days = 2 half-life periods. 2 half life periods means that the mass of the substance has been halved two times. Therefore, you divide 100 grams by 2 for 2 times. 100/2 = 50 50/2 = 25 Your final answer would be 25g remaining.
      Is this helpful?
