I'm not colorblind myself, but I was coming down to the comments to express the same sentiment. It's an often forgotten issue and it's wonderful that he made sure to find a way to help.

@@chengyu1634 major bruh moment I seriously can’t fathom why they removed the sparkle and sound effects. Such an incredibly braindead decision. I’ve probably missed a ton of shinies due to this considering the spawn rate.
Just look for the sparkles.... Oh wait
The first time you get a pop-up about less pokemon spawning, it means you've knocked out 25. The 2nd pop-up means you've knocked out 50. Really good for keeping track if your counting is wrong or you just don't want to count at all.

Very useful tip for this and general gameplay
Press L to instantly rotate the camera to where your character is facing, you can turn the character round 180° in an instant and press L to rotate the camera fully, SO much faster

Ive been using this button ever since I learned you could do that. The joystick is way too slow for me so that trick helps sooo much when traversing the region looking around for pokemon.
Just got my shiny purple dolphin!!! Been looking for Finizen for nearly 30 mins using this method, was about to give up and start over but waited... And there it was! Thank you so much Austin!!

A note regarding caves and valleys: Caves and valley areas do decrease the spawn zone but they can also spawn Pokémon inside of walls and ceilings (if you’re in a cave). Though this is something Nintendo or Gamrefreak is probably going to patch up in future updates, for the time being you should scan the walls for any hidden Pokémon and/or hidden shinies which may be inside of the walls and ceilings. You can do this by holding down ZL and simply looking at the wall and moving around so that you can see the entire length of the wall or ceiling; most of the time you can lock onto Pokémon through walls.

I love how mass outbreaks are now so much bigger. We use to have up I think 15 in Pokemon Legends Arceus. Now, I think it's up to like 80

A note that helps a great deal, at least for me, on counting how many you've killed. Your "The outbreak has less pokemon" or w/e message is your 50th, so you can just not count until you see that message, then count the next 10. It's infinitely easier to pay attention for the message than keep track of 60 individual kills.

No the message saying "the number of pokemon SEEMS to be getting lower" means you've KO'd 30. When it says "the number of pokemon is certainly/forsure getting lower" means you've killed all 60. there is no message for 50 KO'd outbreak pokemon
On Serebii it says every 20-30 Pokémon killed you get a notification, so It would probably be best to count 20 after the second notification to be sure

Dude!!!! I tried your method and in a little over half an hour got my Shiny Noivern - a mon I've been hunting since SwSh came out!!! I don't have the shiny sandwiches or charm yet, so I found a mass outbreak of noivern using your re-set method and made an encounter power 2 dragon sandwich and then, funnily enough, got a noibat!!! I then evolved her and boom!! One dream shiny down!!!
Thank you so much for the detailed explanations AND how to change the screen color for better help distinguishing colors. I used to play hockey and got more than my fair share of concussions so I can't stare at a screen for long periods of time without migraines or extreme headaches, so I was worried about shiny hunting when I found out you had to look for them instead of listening. Find a Pokemon with damp ability. Poliwag and evolutions for example. Pokemons you fight against can't "explode"

i like using the picnic method cause it lets me count how long it took but it has occurred to me that i could just walk away to despawn them. glad to hear that’s correct.
also for people who have trouble with counting without getting distracted and forgetting your number (me) i use a free counter app
Did this on a Psyduck outbreak, thanks to my hard save i had a Psyduck and an Azuril spawn at the same exact time. Had to lure them close because if i engaged one or the other the other would wander and despawn 😂

I didn't think about saving at 60 kills then using lets go mode for harder to notice shinies. Would have made my hunts so much less tedious. I may do this next time I have a tatsugiri outbreak. Thanks for the tips!

This worked for me even on water! You just have to open picnic while in the water and it automatically brings you to the last land area you've been in, and no need to do a proper picnic as this automatically generate new pokemons.
Do you have to use the lets go feature to defeat the 60 or can you normal battle too?
@@mikescott5412 I did some normal battle too, but like in 65 battles, prolly around 3 to 7 times only.
So when it says I scramble out of the water or something it resets Mon spawns?

Thank you for this comment! I finally got the shiny curly tatsugiri from this outbreak with 30 seconds left on the sandwich. After getting both other tatsugiri, a dratini, and even a frigibax when i took a momentary break.

I remember when Sw/Sh came out I just HAD to get a shiny G. Yamask. That took me probably 20+ hours (at least) before finally getting lucky, and that was before any actually good hunting methods were out.
This time, only with the boost of 60 K/Os from a mass outbreak, I got a shiny P. Wooper in at most 20 MINUTES!!!
Obviously a lot of that is luck, but I just had to say thank you so much for always bringing us the best guides on RUclips. You're the best!

Same thing happened to me! I got two shiny Pokémon randomly (full odds) before I hit the fifth gym. Did not think that was going to happen with full odds lol
Caught my first ever legitimate shiny this morning at about 4:30 am.
I was at the 59th hour of playtime. And I actually was NOT looking for it at all. Just moving through area zero and I see something blue.
I've played pokemon since red and blue (I know neither of which has shinies) but after over 20 years... I've finally caught a shiny.
And I'm actually very happy that it was a gen 1 pokemon, Venomoth, as my first ever shiny (not counting pokemon go). 11/27/22
Besides that, thanks for this video and running through the entire process of shiny hunting and answering some questions I had. It made things very easy to understand.

Hi Austin, I was late to join pokemon scarlet but you have helped me with my quetions. During this i had just got my shiny charm(gholdengo took forever) and I desided to hunt for shiny bisharp. I got to the out break, killed 60 of them, and started pick-nick reseting. With in 8 minutes i was able to get it, I am so happy that you helped me learn how to shiny hunt. Thank you.

Very helpful! I was able to get a shiny Noibat with this method. Any ideas if the chance to catch resets if you caught a shiny during the outbreak? Can you keep trying for more with the same odds?

Just confirmed got my second shiny dracloak in under 1.5 hours with no shiny charm or herba mystica
Caught 2 shiny from the same mass outbreak within 2mins of each other
You can keep going in that outbreak until the time of day or number of Pokémon runs out. All of them after the 60th have the same odds. Catching a shiny, saving, and picnicing will only decrease the full spawnable amount by 1.
Just finished the game. Great game, it really felt like an adventure. Pretty decent plot with a few twists. I would really love to see a video with spoilers about the deferences between the two games
I massively respect the colourblind part, thank you. It doesn't affect my life much overall, but I do have to ask other people when I wanna get suitable shiny aprimon and stuff
It’s cool that you considered the color blind. Gaming can be way harder for them than anyone can think. I used to play eso and we had a tank that struggled with blues and we were doing something where the bosses ability would turn the boss transparent blue and to him. The dude literally went invisible and he sadly dropped the progression mostly because of this issue. It was a sad moment. So yeah it’s awesome you consider that
If you're having trouble keeping track of how many Pokemon you've defeated using the Lets Go feature, you can always keep track of the specific Pokemon material they're dropping via your inventory. For example, if you're shiny hunting Florges - take note of how many Florges petals (or whatever they're called) you have in your inventory and how many each Florges is dropping when defeated. From there it's pretty easy math to figure out how many Florges' you've defeated via the material drops.
I'm sure the amount of materials obtained when defeating a Pokémon can vary from 1 to 3 (and it's random after each defeat) so this isn't a good method.
Instead, check for when the message pops up saying there are fewer Pokémon in the outbreak, it appears exactly when 50 Pokémon have been defeated, then just count to 10
@@johnp6607 It isn't always random but yeah. For example iirc one dropped 4 prior to the sandwich in the video

I believe the message notice reminds you each time you defeat 25 Pokémon from the outbreak so after the second notice you just need to defeat 10 more to have 60 kills.
I actually encountered my first shiny in Scarlet this way, it was a shiny drifloon! I also found a shiny gabite on accident today
lmao my only shiny is a shiny luxray my older brother traded me while i was helping him get violet exclusives
This guide is so helpful little tricks that I’ve learnt are doing outbreaks on the edge of towns is super quick if you can see them as soon as you cross the town border and the outbreaks in the ocean seem to spawn a lot more Pokémon and you can just ride a very short distance away to reset the spawns rather than do the picnic method. Just did it for finizen and caught 3 shinys in 20 minutes (first 10 mins I was doing picnic and found none) and also found a full odds shiny sandygast on the beach while riding back and forth to reset the spawns which has a really nice black evolution when you turn it into palossand
thanks for sharing this! i'll do some shiny hunting post-game for sure. that said, i got real lucky with a shiny voltorb last night. i was *about* to stop playing, turned to my left, and there it was just floating by a tree. i snuck up on it, caught it by surprise, and got a crit throw with my final ultra ball. i thought for sure that it'd self-destruct before and during the battle.

One tip with terrastalized Pokémon walking on the overworld, they may be shiny and you may not notice! Due to all the glittering I didn't realise my elektross was shiny and thought the green colour was normal (just forgot I guess) I caught him only because he had a dragon terra, and I didn't have his final Evo in my Dex. Noticed later I battled a shiny, mourned thinking I killed it without noticing. But found it in my boxes when I was choosing my 6 Pokémon for elite 4. Just a heads up.
This was a rollercoaster of emotions tbh

I find it interesting that the outbreak of Florges are all the same flower form and not random flower forms. That's going to make it much harder to hunt a Shiny white flower Florges.
Also a little note. If you fail the shiny and reload and the Pokemon isn't there. Reload the game again. I had a shiny Falinks juke me by not respawning when I reloaded my game the 1st time!

I really hope they include the shiny sparkle sound in the future. Some mons have very subtle shiny forms (especially when they are small as well).
Anyone know if shiny hunting a 2nd or 3rd evolution, would affect the other evolutions? I was hunting a Dragonair and I caught it, as I was leaving the area, I ran into a shiny Dratini, just like that.
Love the videos! Quick question, any tips for render issues? I'd be following your tips and respawns would take a long time and be inconsistent. Sometimes there would be 3 spawns others 12 others I'd have to ride around.
Good video as always! I had an accidental shiny encounter when I was barreling through grass at Mach 3 and didn’t see a flabebe that ended up being shiny when the battle started 😂
Have you ever considered how the ability No Guard could affect in regards to the spawn rate of the wild pokemon?
I believe only a certain number of Pokemon can appear on the screen at a time (15 I think?) And they spawn rather quickly when you move far enough to despawn the others. So no guard shouldn't make much of a difference

What would be the best way to go about dealing with the outbreaks of Pokémon who not only fly, but seem to have a nasty habit of flying out of range?
The Rufflet do this occasionally, but Noivern has been rather notorious for flying about 3 stories above my head. Lol 😅
Noivern doesn't fly during the day, just during the night.

You don't have to change the date and time at the start of a new day. So if you make a save at 11:59pm, you can just close the game and everything will reset. You don't have to keep saving or changing the date. You only have to change the date once you save.
the point of the first 11:59pm is to start at 12:00am for the hunt giving you a full 24-hour window.
@@AustinJohnPlays If you save the game it doesn't log the exact time, just the date. I've had my switch set to 11/25 the past 3 days because I'm shiny hunting a glimmet in a cave (some of the outbreak spawns underground) whenever the day "ends" i close the game and set the date back to 11/25 12:01 am and start the game again, the glimmet outbreak continues just fine for another 24 hours
You probably don't want to save AFTER making your super-rare sandwich-before finding a shiny-as he recommends at 13:45. All meal buffs vanish upon reloading, which would eschew the bonus rate for Pokémon other than just the dozen or so static ones present when saving. I hope this doesn't mess up too many people.
Yeah, it sucks we can't soft reset the timer so we can run around & get like 3 shinies every sandwich.
If I get a shiny within a couple mins, I always have 2 more I want & speedrun to their areas. I got a Jumpluff literally 10 seconds after a sandwich yesterday.

@@amandagreene4990 If you walk over to where they are and stand, they'll try to fly down to you! You may need to wait for them to get a little bit lower or jump up so they can see you and come to you. Once I started knocking them out, they started spawning closer to the ground!! ALWAYS save as soon as you see your shiny!
Thank you so much for this tutorial! Decided on a whim I wanted a shiny magneton because of how cool their materials are and I saw an outbreak nearby. Took less than ten minutes and ONE ROUND of refreshing to get one! And it was so worth it- I love the colours with the materials!! Thank you again, Austin!

My first two shinys were both complete luck, I had only finished the first two gyms and was on my way to do the first Titan and stumbled across a shiny shinx in a mass outbreak... as in like I walked past it and was like "oh look a shiny!" My second one was on my way to the third gym after doing the first two titans and the first team star raid and I went down to the beach to do a terra raid right before going into town and I saw a shiny Mareanie just hanging about. I was wondering if anyone else was having trouble getting herba mystica from 5 and 6 star raids. On my violet copy i’ve gotten a lot of herba mystica as i’ve done many raids but i’ve been playing through my scarlet copy and i’ve completed the game and post game and gotten no herba mystica at all. I’ve done many raids on my scarlet copy as well and I was wondering if this is a bug or if i’m just extremely unlucky. Does anyone have any solutions?
Seems they are incredibly rare. I've done almost 30 5 star raids, and gotten 2 herba
I wasn’t even entirely planning on doing much shiny hunting until I got my charm, and even then I had a mentality of “eventually one will be shiny” . Then today I was getting future forms and violet exclusives to eventually transfer for my scarlet dex and found a shiny Sneasel and Jumpluff and it flipped a switch

After 125 hours in game i got my first shiny, a noibat, by doing this! Great content as always!
When I got to level 30, I got to cassarya lake (i don't remember how to spell it) and there was a lvl50 shiny Gyarados, I almost cried cause it was so high lvl, but I caught it!! Named him kratos😂
Hey Austin, I just got to area zero and really like the paradox pokemon. I think a video on how to shiny hunt them would be great, as there's a lot of conflicting evidence out there.
I did everything and had the level 3 sparkling shiny to try and get Mankey. No luck, it’s actually really discouraging that everyone is getting them and I have literally never seen a shiny. Your videos and effort are top notch though. Thanks for what you do!

Just a heads up, those messages that pop up indiciating the mass out break is shrinking only pop up at 30 - 60 - 90 killed. So if you hate counting, just use the messages.
Depending on the terrain (and how difficult it is to tell the shiny apart), it can actually be better to do the ride away and back method as it can generate new pokemon faster and you can ride up next to them and get a closer look. You can ride in a circle around the mass outbreak causing the non-outbreak pokemon to despawn, freeing those spawn slots for the outbreak mons.
Also if you are shiny hunting on the cheap, it can be helpful to make a cheap encounter power sandwich to reduce the spawn rate of surrounding pokemon.

So what he is saying is if I keep opening picnics after checking the pokemon in mass outbreaks AFTER defeating 60 pokemon I might encounter a shiny? (Do not have any herbas mystica's)
