  • We are #propagating #asparagus fern from #seeds. It's a fun demonstration where we pick the berries then extract the seeds from them in a process called the floatation method. Next plant the seeds and voila!

This video may be older but still useful and I'm glad i found you! 😊 thank you ma'am ❤💚 my asparagus ferns have berries but they're still green so ill leave them alone and harvest after they turn red.

The berries on mine are currently really small and white, should I wait for them to get bigger and red before I extract the seeds?

I was wondering if I could hang these in coco liner baskets? I like the draping habit, very pretty.

Hi Michele, I haven't tried growing them in coco liner basket but they would look very nice in this natural material. But unlike true ferns, I don't think they would send out young plants through the sides of the basket. I'm curious so I'll give it a try myself. Thanks for the suggestion👍 😍

I'm going to start some seeds indoors to be ready to hang them outside when it's warmer (northern TX, USA). Do the seeds need light to germinate?

    • @thelmamccatty9181

Asparagus seeds do not need supplemental light to germinate. Cover them with about quarter inch of media and place in a well ventilated area that gets bright, but indirect sunlight.

So sorry about this Valda. We noticed it post-edit when it was too late. We'll try to have it corrected for the next video. Thanks for your feedback.
