The Olympic-class were rather good at finding the one thing in the middle of the ocean to crash into...
Yes…
It’s just what happens when you build a big unwieldy ship. Although, I do take your point.
Titanic: Iceberg
Britannic: Mine
Olympic: Hawke, Nantucket, New York(I think)
@@GoldenTurtle2012And yet Olympic served a full lifetime of civilian and military service before being stripped down for costs in the midst of the great depression lol
RMS Titanic: "Iceberg! We're in danger!"
RMS Olympic: "I am the danger."
Ships in ww1: a U-boat we're in danger
RMS Olympic: you have chosen death
Meanwhile, Olympic about to ram into HMS Hawke:
“I am the one who rams.”
@@lilsquidyyy Hawke : I'm made for ramming ships
Olympic : think again
Titanic: Iceberg right ahead
Olympic actually said: "We're coming for you!"
The Olympic class ships were really just aesthetically beautiful pieces of craftsmanship.
Olympic actually WAS unsinkable. So lucky that she even had a torpedo hit her hull and it didn’t detonate
Of course no such thing as unsinkable every ship sinkable kinda common sense
@@theblackshepard4441Well this one didn’t sink. So it is unsinkable.
@@OzzieBo well you're dumb
@@OzzieBoit is sinkable it’s just lucky
The Olympic had plot armor.
If I had a nickel for everytime Olympic hit a ship, I'd have, like...two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's wierd it happened twice.
It seems like the Olympic class in general is pretty bad at not hitting things.
It would be three nickels in total. RMS Olympic struck three sea-going vessels during her lifetime. The first vessel was British Royal Navy HMS Hawke, the second was a deliberate ramming action against German Imperial Navy SM U-103 and the third incident was the United States Lighthouse Service's Nantucket lightship LV-117.
@Trident Animation The Olympic took out more vessels in her lifetime than most modern navy ships.
@@user2C47well the britannic didn’t hit anything. A torpedo hit it instead 😂
@@mattburke5491 britannic hit a mine, wasn't sunk by torpedo
Wow, no wonder why nearly all of the crew members of that smaller ship died in that accident. Ironic, because Olympic during WWI DID destroy an enemy submarine this exact same way.
It’s badass. The submarine part I mean.
Submarine: preparing torpedoes
Olympic: *VERY LEGAL SMASH*

Tomorrow it would be 89 years since Olympic sunk Nantucket so I find it very nice that you release this video in that special date honoring the 7 men that died in this incident.
🤓🤓🤓
@@Squish112 ?
@@juanesmirez let’s honour the 7 people that died not the 2K+ on the Olympic , yipee

@@iplayClarinetthewrongway After the ship struck an iceberg on April 14, Andrews assessed the damage and determined that the vessel would sink. He subsequently urged people to get to lifeboats; although the ship exceeded the number of lifeboats required by the British Board of Trade, it had enough for only about half of those onboard.
“How many times have we told you that the War is over, Olympic! Stop sinking things by smashing into them!”

wow...just full on wow 2:50 is just so amazing seeing footage of Olympic....tho R.I.P Nantucket.
What's amazing is to be able to see this research with actual photos and with a video re-eneactment. Very well done!
man, Olympic really changed after losing her sisters.
Omgg I’m glad you remembered about these events
"But this ship can't sink!"
"She's made of iron, sir. And unsinkable ships are perfect for sinking other ships."
If the Olympic had a soul... she'd be in a mournful rage knowing the fate of her little sisters. Taking her anger on any ship that gets in her way
That's a serious piece of real events with that additional recording of 4 men who servived and were rescued from the collisinon. Thank You for sharing
altough this is a tragic story i loved this video. the animation was once again AMAZING aswell with the realtime footage of the ship and the survivors it was once again amazing thank you so much for this video blue star
The Titanic hit an iceberg and sank
Britannic hit a mine and sank
Olympic. She hit 2 ships, 1 submarine, she was hit by a torpedo. AND SHE SURVIVED
it's like the ship didn't want to be sunk on purpose
Olympic has been described as the Rampaging Lunatic of the Sea... for reference damage from the dud torpedo went undiscovered for almost a year.
@@seawolf4846 yeah lmao. Lunatic is a deserving name, considering she sunk a u-boat on purpose and a ship by accident. Plus that torpedo that didn't go off.
if the other 2 weren't so unlucky imagine the chaos the trio would have caused
@@minute0420 yeah lmao
Olympic was still standing, and not scrapped. We would’ve had the perfect titanic replica
The Olympic actually didn't cut the ship in half. It ripped it open and careened it out of the way, where it foundered immediately, but it wasn't cut in half.
i would shit myself thinking Titanic's ghost has come to sink my boat
this was before the Titanic
The dangers of the lightship service. It was tendency on a time for liners to hone in on the radiobeacons aboard lightships while making a crossing.
The poor Olympic already had to cope with losing both of her sisters to the Ocean, and now she's having to suffer even more
She was photographed speeding dangerously close to them judt months prior
Whitw star lines - leave all the ramming to us and relax and enjoy the cruise
Did the Olympic get a Die-Hard medal 😂
White star line had a habit of hitting the few things in the ocean that they shouldn't.
We actually have one of Nantucket’s twin sister in my home town retired on our shores with the same picture of Olympic running into that light house ship
That's crazy that the passengers didn't even notice
If you can’t dodge it, ram it!
The scene where Olympic appeared genuinely gave me goosebumps
I'm surprised that Olympic only stopped her engines (which will take forever to stop) without any attempt to steer hard a port/starboard.
There is an inaccuracy with this video. According to Wikipedia, the Olympic threw all engines in full reverse and applied full port rudder to avoid. But 55,000 tons coming at you at even 3knots would cause significant damage.
@@johnandrews3568 olympic class liners, only the wing propellers could go astern, centre engine was ahead only turbine so couldnt reverse only stop,
Olympic was set to full reverse as fast as possible and only hit Nantucket with around 5 km/h, which was still enough. Also it is worth noting Nantucket was not cut in half as depicted in this video.
@@knispelwedges427 she was also already deploying life boats as well.
Go away karien.
If Olympic had hit the Iceberg. The Iceberg would've sunk.
I guess thats the issue with building such massive ships, they're so incredibly big that you can barely stop them in time usually
Chad olympic: crashes into another ship, splits in half, "lmfaooo". Serves in ww1, gets nicknames "old reliable", returns to civilian transport after 1918
Virgin Titanic: "it's the unsinkable ship", crashes into literal water (the one it's supposed to sail on but solid), sinks.
How fast did the Nantucket go down after the collision? It had to have been less than a minute at least. The animation of the sinking seemed to fast for me.
The way it just sliced the Nantucket in half is kind of horrifying, knowing there were people on it.
This video is inaccurate as it was not sliced in half
I love how this is after ww1. It shows that Olympic still had fight left in her
RIP NANTUCKET LIGHTSHIP
Imagine being on that tiny ship and seeing a massive ship thats longer than 250 meters coming right towards you
So all three sister ships were involved with siblings. Titanic, we all know. The Brittanic went down in 1916. And this…😮
Olympic was the mother of all ships
The Olympic has made two kills with crashing 😂
Did white star lines send the bill for repairs and paint to the captain of the Nantucket?
This incident was probably one of the reasons why the Olympic was retired
It’s is remarkable to see the injured crewman from the Nantucket standing together with the captain of the Olympic for that press photo.
Watching from India 🇮🇳.... Olympic Is my favourite ocean liner ❤️
Olympic class vessels, can you just stop hitting things
.....no
Cool animation, but LV-117 Nantucket lies on the bottom in one piece. The ship getting cut in half was a rumor at the time, as the wreck wasn’t found until the 70s and wasn’t identified until 1998.
It's very sad that had she survived, it would have been an awesome sight to see Titanic's twin still existing. Similar vibes seeing the Giza pyramids, but with only one relic remaining.
RIP to the crew on board
Don't mess or screw around a big sister!
There once was a man on Nantucket.
Who then kicked the bucket.
It took a hit,
Which caused it to split.
And Olympic was the one who struck it.
I’m sorry.
Wow! Amazing animation video. I am really curious on how you made this. I have been making fiction ships since 2009 but I can never achieve things like moving ships etc. Because the game engine I am making the ships in hasn't been updated since 2007.
Always wondered why Olympic didnt sound her whistle as a warning when they realized they couldnt avoid the collision
Titanic:iceberg right ahead! Nantucket:will i survive Olympic? Olympic:no ur dead 😈😈 3:05
1:42 I keep having a nigthmare like this. It's dark, I;m in a little boat in the middle of the ocean, it's really foggy. Then, out of the fog, barely 100 meters or so away, a huge bow of a ship appears, I mean big, like a skyscraper big.
Is there anything White Star Line ships didn't hit?
1:47 If ships talked in this scene:
Olympic: WHATS HAPPENING!?
Nantucket Lightship: AHHHH-
*Olympic rams Nantucket lightship*
Rebuild the Olympic
Chad RMS Olympic
Does anyone know of any video or pictures of the wreck?
Fun fact : Nantucket wreck was actually found and she isnt snapped in half, just resting on the bottom of the sea
Yes I have seen photos of this. I will remake this some time!
hello everything is fine? I'm a big fan of your channel, I'm from here in Brazil (that doesn't change ANYTHING, but anyway), I'd like to take a doubt; from when specifically did Olympic start using this livery with the gold line below the Olympic name? I always thought it was in the renovation he did in the post-war period, but from what I saw in the photos, it wasn't. I think this format is much more beautiful than the format that was the Titanic and the Olympic itself where the golden line was above the names of the ships. Big hug and congratulations for the channel.
It was during a refit in the 1920s
1:53 this never hapens, the boat didn't brake in 2 parts ....
Here comes Olympic

OLIMPIC YES.
what is it with this class and hitting things?

Captains: it’s gonna hit the Boat!
Okay I'm going to say it...
Olimpic class are so badass they need to be on GTA6🤣
1:53 SpongeBob: “You’re good! You’re good!”
From all the lights i see on i can only conclude like every other accident no one was on watch or watching 😮
At least it wasn’t her fault.
The captain did not see the boat ahead
Olympic should be known as the killer
The Olympic didn't fare well during the Court of Inquiry into this disaster. Her commander, Captain Binks had always made it a personal tactic of his own to steam in the direction of the Nantucket Lightship, and then turn away at the last moment. Surviving crew members of the lightship pointed this out, and they even had a photograph taken from the Lightship in January of 1934, just five months before the collision to show how close the big liner came to the immovable lightship on a regular basis. Asked if other liners did this, the crewman said no, but he added, that the Olympic was a most notorious offender.
This incident, as well as the loss of the sister ship, Titanic, revealed a flaw in the liners rudder design. The rudder was entirely to small to adequately turn one of these liners, before it collided with an object in her path. The newsreel footage of the incident is very hard to watch, as we see crewman from the lightship being interviewed on the Olympic as the liner came into New York. Everyone of the survivors, who had just been plucked from the sea, were 7 of their fellow crewman had just perished, were, as you would expect, in a complete state of shock, but in that very moment they were being asked by crew members of the Olympic if they held the Cunard-White Star Liner to blame for the collision. It was almost surreal to watch that newsreel.
What's with the Olympic running over smaller vessels?
0:18 imagine you hear this rumbling and 55 thousand tonnes ship emerges from the mist with 25 knots. Id crap my pants tbh...
It just ran over the Nantucket💀
Olympic: Huh. There’s something up ahead.
Nantucket: What the- AAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nantucket Crew: IT’S THE GHOST OF TITANIC! AAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!
Olympic crew: What the- What was that?
Olympic: OH MY GOD! I AM SO SORRY NANTUCKET! I AM SO SORRY!
Olympic: HOLY S**T! WE HIT A LIGHT SHIP! QUICK! LOWER A BOAT! THERE MAY BE SURVIVORS!
The random kid staring down over the port side from the forward well deck: "Daddy... Why is there a weirdly shaped thingy down there in the water?"
0:21 like a ghostship
Beautiful to watch, sadly too many inaccuracies. Nantucket was not cut in half, Olympic set the engines to full reverse the moment Nantucket was spotted, Olympic hit Nantucket with about 5 km/h, and so on.

1st officer: "uhm... so who should we blame for this one?"
The fact this happened in my birthday tho…
Sorry for being uninformed, but what was the purpose of the Nantucket Light Ship? I haven't been able to get a satisfactory answer.
They are used in waters that are too deep or otherwise unsuitable for lighthouse construction. Mark hazards or entry to a shipping channel
@@AdmiralJT Thank you!
Oh no im so sorry must not have set notofication. Great vid tho👍

The Olympic BIG
Did the helmsman think it was a goal post and you have to put the ship between the lights!?
Only a stop order? No reverse? No turns?
where did you found this engine sound?
I made it myself :)
you did very well
Other than that. This is Awesome work!
What I find crazy is that Titanic was only centimeters from missing the iceberg
The ships of the wsl must hit something in her trips.
the olympic was always lucky in all the events that preceded it in its entirety the truth would have kept this boat but fate sent it to scrap
It seems the Olympic absorbed all of the luck from her sister ships!
Olympic's scrapping was not due to this collision, though. She was scrapped because the merger of White Star and Cunard meant that the combined Cunard White Star Line had far more ships than it needed for regular transatlantic service, and her ocean liner design meant that she wasn't an efficient hull for a full-time cruise ship.
what do you use for the animations?
so Olympic was the true unsinkable ship
