Simply beautiful movie. Two people, not two men nor two women nor a man and a woman, just two people falling in love and dealing with what that means. I can never see even small snippets without it bring a tear to my eyes.
It doesn't matter how many times I watch this film, listen to the soundtrack or read the book I feel like I have been put through the ringer and every last bit of emotion has been squeezed out of me. Given the time that this was set and then looking at the world today, it is true....it really does get better. This is my most favourite film, although I can only watch it occasionally as it usually takes me a couple of days to "recover" from! A REAL love story. Thanks for posting. X

A lot of people think that Jack loved Ennis more than Ennis loved Jack. I don't believe that -I just think that Jack was able to express his feelings more freely and Ennis held back, because of his father, his friends, etc. They both loved each other deeply-Ennis was just afraid and Jack was ready to throw caution to the wind. Someday, we won't have to worry about or deal with this - it will be OK to be gay (with everyone)-I know it because I see how far we have come even since the 70's.
In the book you understand that it's true. Ennis loved Jack very much, but he was afraid the people would kill them as the couple he saw in his childrenhood. The terrible and traumatizing crowbar. In the end, his fears came true and took Jack from him 😢😢 I always wonder what if they lived in the nowadays or in other state.
Great movie...gosh, Gyllenhaal is an unbelievable actor. Just majestic performance. RIP heath. Profound Movie about LOVE not sexuality. Get over it already.

i just loved this movie and you can really see the love they shared THIS IS LOVE i wonder if jake and heath had somethin goin? they were both so talented and it seemed with ease playing these parts cant help but cry for jack ...so ahead of the times think the eighties would faint at today..lol

@Miranda1184 yh...its ironic, though, coz his children were always another reason he couldn't leave and be with Jack, but then at the end they're like the only thing left to live for...i think its very clever how it ends with his agreeing to go to his daughter's wedding...shows that life goes on even though his heart is broken xx
I am so sad for Heaths death but watching all the vids, I think he really loved Jake. Such a touching movie. Must have been a reason he decided to die. i think it was gayness, and nothing wrong with that. I miss your beautiful face Heath and may you rest well.
