Bravo #thewatchestv

I have always wondered how an enamel dial was made. Thank you for showing us this beautiful process. I realize that besides skill, you require precision hand dies as well as chemical powders and a compact furnace as well.

My late father was a clock and watch maker. I inherited all his tools. I found a small tin that is labeled white clock face enamel. When I opened the tin, it looks like white chunks of stone. Like small white gravel pieces. The enamel tin is very very old. Not sure how old but i can tell you that you cant buy it anymore.
Do you have any thoughts on how it's used in a small home clock shop? Luckily I also have all my dads clock and watch repair service manuals. I really want to set up a shop and get into amateur clock repair. I also have an antique grandfather clock from 1780/1790.

Very nice story and I really hope you will be able to make the most of what your father left you. And be patient, because it takes a long long time to get proficient, but it's all about perseverance and trial and errors. All the very best to you

You think you can't buy it? Enamel is TERRIBLY common in the real world. You still get dinner plates for camping made of it and cast iron pots coated in it. I know a place you can take whole bathtubs to and they will do it in enamel new. That kind of enamel is different from but related to the enamel paint in spraycans.
