  • Set to IndianRaga’s Journey Home, this piece explores the concept of the “journey of a bharatanatyam dancer.” The dancers’ journeys begin and end with the namaskar-- a prayer seeking the blessings from mother earth to allow the dancers to stamp on the ground. They begin their journey with adavus, which are the basic building blocks of bharatanatyam. After mastering these building blocks (depicted in the first 1.5 min), the dancers learn their first item, Alarippu (alluded to in the following 30 sec), and finally reach a point where they can confidently dance with bells on their feet (captured in the last 40 sec). This piece also captures the intricate makeup and jewellery that dancers learn to wear before performing on stage.
