Lots of Gen-Y are like this. I hope you guys remember, that, most of the people who grew up with the NES back in the 80s are in their 30s and almost 40s... but they're still chill peeps. The seniors of the future are not going to be like the seniors of today. I saw a couple of books he has written in Amazon.com. He wrote a book in collaboration with Cab Scrambly called Everything Can Be Beaten (came out this year), Strange Tales 2, an anthology he wrote with other comic book artists, and Jellyfist, which he wrote "Barely conscious and muttering to himself with a fishbone on the side of a cat" along side J. Goldberg. The last one I saw a physical copy in a bookstore, but couldn't buy it because I was short on monies that day. I agree that he should be more known. I guess he is well known in the comic book community, but like you said, he did other stuff.

I feel like alot of people assume that people who make childrens shows are clean little angels. In reality, all of them are adults who have probably done drugs, had sex, and swear like sailors. I mean, as creative people they have to have lots of life experiences to draw from. Just look at the side work of Pendelton Ward and J.G. Quintel and you know they've probably AT LEAST experimented with drugs. There are tons of subtle sex jokes in Spongebob.
Jhonen also gets very... pissed at how people watch Invader Zim. Honestly if I was to walk up to some one and say either Zim or Dib they wouldn't know what I was talking about. However if I was to say Gir.. Or something in that category they would be like "I LOVE THAT SHOW" It irritates me as well. 1: seeing Jhonen being remembered for his least favorite character and 2: Not being known for his other things. I love Jhonen for his other works and try not to slander the way he had made them to be.

I'm actually surprised that some people aren't aware of this show's existence. I thought it was like a spongebob situation where everyone who grew up around the early 2000's knew about him, and my family and I love the show and characters. So i was super shocked when my friends had no idea what I was talking about but remembered shows like My Life as a Teenage Robot. (wow just realized how old this comment is)

i heard many projects fell through before seeing the light of day. i heard he worked for disney for 4 years but the project never panned out. i think the show was called very important house. you could look on wikipedia though i feel its underwhelming which is not at all his fault. things haven't worked out as easily as they did back in the day.
It didn't surprise me to see Jhonen give that awkward handshake at the end, but I do remember how surprising it was to see him very animated when he met my yorkie I brought with me. He not only shook her paw but he even wanted to hold her. ❤️ And he smiled after she licked his face while he was holding her.
Jhonen has a picture of my dog on his twitter and instagram. She was wearing her GIR suit sweater I hand-sewed. We both have met him 3 times as of now from occasions that took place in book stores. Any other locations beside those would not allow pets inside.

Jhonen is actually responsible for getting me back into doing comics. At 21 I had given up on my professional art career and my aspirations to do comics and animation. I managed a video store and was getting arrested for tagging. I stumbled upon a hardcover copy of the JTHM book, and not only did I see someone with a similar art style to mine, but he was making content, that I previously had felt was too niche to have an audience. This inspired me to get back into comics with my own material. For a few years I worked own 6DFS Six Degrees from Sanity, and even though that only led to a single self published book, much of the work I did for it, was repurposed into Sushi Tails, which is a strip, and soon to be ongoing book series. It has a modest following, but my fans are loyal, and I manage to sell some art and merch. It's what I love, and I owe this all to Jhonen, Johnny, and Zim. With love Shane/ ZippoBoy #SushiTails

Yeah, he actually has this love/hate feelings over his very first JTHM comic because his drawing skill were "horrible" according to him. But like the saying goes: "Practice makes perfect" and he's been at it for quite some time, so it's normal to assume he got better :)

Invader Zim was a fun show to watch as a kid. As a young adult now, I didn’t realize how disturbing the cartoon actually was.

Been wondering what this guy sounded like since reading the original JTHM comics in the 90s.
At 0:53 woa, so he's better at drawing than I thought, if he drew the stuff at the top, anyway. I thought he could only do his JTHM stuff (stylized stick figures, essentially) 'cause I heard he was self taught?
Yeah, he actually has this love/hate feelings over his very first JTHM comic because his drawing skill were "horrible" according to him. But like the saying goes: "Practice makes perfect" and he's been at it for quite some time, so it's normal to assume he got better :)
