Hawthorn between 1975 and 1991, 11 grand finals & 7 premierships in 16 seasons. Including 7 consecutive grand finals, what an amazing run. And then to go on and win 4 flags from 5 grand finals between 2008 & 2015 (8 seasons). Absolute Juggernaut of the past 60 years but all you hear is collingwood this, Carlton that, essendon this. Clearly the most successful club of anyone's current lifetime.
This is so true! The hawks have been one of the best teams in afl history but everyone rips on them and says how much they suck. Every team has bad years but Hawthorn has been a team that has more good years than bad and they have always had a plan in place that has won them at least one premiership in every decade since the 60's!
As a collingwood fan, I can admire and respect how the hawks have won so many premierships. No shame in celebrating your history and success, you are definitely one of the best clubs of the modern era!
Still amazing that we have won our 16th premiership this year! I love my pies through and through and so glad we no longer have the pain of losing grand finals and finally won a September grand final as well! Definitely the best year I had as a collingwood fan 😊
This actually made me a bit depressed about North. I know every team goes through rough patches but I've been following for a while now and have never seem them good. They have a great history.
I wouldn't call it a great history, since they entered in 1925 they didn't become competitive till the 1970's, did very well in the 90's and that's thats it.
Hi everyone! I almost never join the conversations below football videos because they're usually full of mindless partisanship, but I've enjoyed reading everyone's thoughts here. You might be interested in my statistical take on the perennial question of the best team ever. (Full disclosure: I am 63 years old and a lifelong Hawthorn supporter.) Given that two teams - Melbourne 1954-1960 and Hawthorn 1983-1989 - reached the Grand Final over seven successive seasons, I decided to make seven consecutive years the window for establishing the best team ever. But how to measure greatness? Obviously, premierships won over seven successive seasons is one measure, in which case Norm Smith's Melbourne side of 1954-1960, which won five premierships in that period, would qualify as the greatest ever. But I was more interested in strike rate, meaning the ratio of games won to games lost over a seven-year period. As we all know, the best-performing team over the home-and-away season does not necessarily walk away with the premiership (think Collingwood in 1970, Carlton in 1976, West Coast in 1991, Geelong in 2008 . . .). By that measure, the greatest team ever is the Geelong side of 2007-2013. Including finals, they played 173 games over those seven years, winning 139 and losing 34: a strike rate of 80.35% (and three premierships). Their closest rival is the Collingwood of 1925-1931: played 141, won 111, lost 29 and drew 1: a strike rate of 78.72% (and four premierships). Several teams have had exceptionally good individual seasons - Carlton in 1908 and 1995, Collingwood in 1929, Essendon in 1950 and 2000, Fitzroy in 1913, Melbourne in 1956, South Melbourne in 1918 - but none of them sustained as high a level of performance over seven seasons as the Geelong of 2007-2013.
It’s wild how the Grand Final is meant to showcase the absolute best but more often than not one side canters away with it. The exceptional contests like 2002, 2009, 2012 and the just passed 2023 are sadly much rarer than the blowouts.
@@angusframe710 Given I go for Collingwood I can wholeheartedly say the 2018 GF was close to the most thrilling match I have ever seen, Final or otherwise, and I will never watch it again. :P But I wasn’t making an exhaustive list. 2011 was pretty good for 3/4, for instance.

It's so sad the AFL manufacuted the Collingwood win in 2023 Maynard getting off Bad umpiring against gws and lions I know poeple within the AFL and they said Gil wanted pies to win to really get fans involved as the new Tasmania team comes in
So Maynard should've got off that was the best decision by the AFL tribunal, it was a total accident and bad umpiring happens all the time. There is always someone who has to be a sore loser. Go the Pies. They deserved to WIN!
They have changed so much and the sound is so different!

Get ready to make a 1940-2024 video swans being the most recent premiers! (Tbh I don’t know if they will be😅)
This didn't age well
Shoutout to AFL Cooper for finding Grand final footage from decades ago 🏆
Thanks mate!
I'm so happy that I can call my team the "Flagpies"
Pies lost so many GFs imagine if they just won half of them, never mind were winners in 2023
If they won all the grand finals they lost, then we would've won 43 grand finals!!!
Melbourne mid 50s to mid 60s by far the best era by a club.
top 3 grand finals

#2: 1974 (in my opinion)
