  • During the period of industrial revolution, population started to increase rapidly.
    Many thinkers came up with various ideas and theories about population.
    But amongst them, Malthus theory was considered as outstanding.
    He very systematically highlighted the relation between the population and available resources (subsistence) and maintained that the imbalance between population and resources is the major cause of human misery.
    He was a humanist and thought for betterment of mankind.
    so he came out with a theory on population.
    This topic is extremely important for UPSC aspirants, especially those having Geography as an optional.
