- One of the most challenging aspects of learning Thai is to learn the tones. There are 5 tones in the Thai language. Here are the tips to help you remember and identify each tone. Hope you find the video useful!
If you are looking for an introductory course to Thai language, I have a course on Udemy. You can check it out here:

Kop khun ka! Thank you!
Happy learning!
I really like your explanation tying to common English intonations! You make it easy to remember the 5 tones!
Jim Sherod does it work well with you? Your tones skill is developing?
First time tones have made any sense to me. Thanks.
This is awesome! Relating the tones to English sounds was genius and made it so much easier to understand how to form the sounds!
I wish you didn't give up. This is one of the best videos for tone I have watched. You make it very relatable
@@ChrisBird1 lol cant say your wrong
Sawadee ka. I was adopted from Bangkok when I was 6 weeks old and grew up in Sweden, adopted by Swedish parents, and so far you're the best teacher I've come across
She is so elegant speaking thai & english 😍
I'm so glad I found this at the very beginning of my study of the Thai language. Tonal languages are daunting to people coming from a non-tonal language, but as you explained so well, no language is non-tonal, including English, it's just a matter of drawing the right comparisons.
It took me 4 whole videos on thai tones to find this masterpiece of a lesson. Thank you very much!
Best explanation I've yet seen. You have a gift for teaching. I lived in Lao for five years and picked up the tones through repetition. What a slog! This would have made it much easier. Were you brought up bilingual?
what a brilliant video. ( as per the previous comment) drawing on English Intonations makes it so much easier to understand. thanx
This is incredibly helpful and the best explanation of Thai tones for English speakers that I have come across. I'm super grateful to you for making this! Thank you so much!
I have trouble learning the tones, and I've been watching other RUclips videos to learn them, but this is the best one. Khop Khun mak mak khrap.
I hope you will continue to teach the way that you do as your connection and fusion of both Thai and English are exceptionally effective...do not give up
She is so nice and teaching so good🎉❤
Excellent. It's much easier to learn when you link it to english expressions.
Thank you!
I've been browsing through lots of videos trying to learn Thai tones this morning and your video is the best at explaining how to pronounce these. You make it so much easier by relating it to English. Thank you so much
Been confused by the other vids teaching the 5 tones, but you made it so simple by relating it to English! Thank you!
Your explanations are really good! Especially for an English speaker like myself. It makes me think I can actually do it. :D
xxIfrah I totally agree with you. Her explanation is a life saver for English speakers and it should work well if you keep practicing and tracing your brain. It really needs reputation. Or do an ear training like musician
What a beautiful woman. And such a good teacher.
You have such good English communication skills, makes it easier to learn from you!
Very good video. Thank u for the associations. I need the slow repetition to help me understand. The low tone is the hardest, but this video is great practice
สวัสดีครับ ผมชื่อDaniloและผมเป็นคนบราซิลครับ ผมชอบมากๆวิดีโอของคุณ ขอบคุณครับ
ผมเขียนได้ภาษาไทยแต่ผมยังไม่พูดได้จริงครับ
ต้องใช้คำว่า "ผมเขียนภาษาไทยได้" นะคะ
she explains this really well. the best on youtube. I wonder if all Thai people can sing well since tones are built into their language
You have explained very well !!!
Why you don’t make another video?
I'm in Bangkok and starting to learn Thai. I will be here for a few weeks because I wanted to immerse myself and learn. This video is incredibly useful for English-speakers. You've really hit on excellent comps to make comprehending and expressing the tones much easier. Thank you!
Wow...Very good...still a struggle for me but you explained it very well. Thank you.
George Foo 1 year already. How is your progress in learning tones I wonder :)
Very smart way to teach and illustrate the tones! Thanks!
Good explanation. Still struggle with tones but getting better.
The examples with the English words help make the tones seem a little more easier.
This is THE BEST explanation I have seen.
The one problem is the "names" of the tones. The "rising" tone is in fact a dipping tone, down and then up. To most people, "rising" means going up, not going down and then up. The "falling" tone is really up and then down, like a roller coaster. An easier way to identify these for students would be to choose a numbering system or something used in standard dictionaries (that use English letters), and call them by that name. That is how people will encounter them. The names of these tones might be necessary, but they are confusing.
However, YOU ARE A GREAT TEACHER!!
Thank you very much. You're an amazing teacher. I hope I will meet you in person. Thank you for that beautiful and well-explained video.
Enjoyed this lesson as tones are my greatest challenge.
Have watched so many videos of tones but this is the best one👍👍👍 nice way of connecting with english expressions.. Thanks...
the best video about the topic, thank u.
Nicely explained.
Because of your excellent English it is easy to learn from you. Please make more videos. Thank you.
so so helpful
I've been struggling with tones, but now, no more! This is by far the best explanation and easiest way to remember them that I've found. Thank you.
Awesome teacher and clearly in detail explaining
great way to make Thai tones understandable, super presentation
Thank you for your clear explanation.
Hi Nancy. I just moved to Bangkok 5 months ago and starting to learn Thai language and found your video. This is super helpful. Thank you so much!!
Best explanation of Thai tones that I've seen
Very good explainations.
To me, Thai tones and Lao tones are much harder to master than Vietnamese tones.
It requires a lot of listening and repeating.
Not to mention that Thai script is also difficult to learn.
I really liked how you made references to the English language. That is the scariest thing for us native English speakers is that with the tonal languages, we will have nothing to relate to.
Conservative Casey not only English speaker :c
this is a fun way to learn i think this is the final tone video i have to watch thanks
This was the best explanation of tones that I have come across. Thank you for the great explanation.
Very good explanation for Americans. In Australia our accent is almost entirely middle tone.
Thanks Jantawee. This is the best explanation I found so far to understand the tones.
Declan Smith I agree with you. I found her explanation one of the best on this topic

You're a pretty good teacher! 🙏
She was so beautiful
Very good lesson Thanks
the best explanation!!!!
Good job. I've never heard thai language teachers relate the tones to english . Early on, I likened low tone to the last word in an english sentence.
I just started for a month and tone isn’t my best. But this vid eased it up so much. Also omg 5years ago? ขอบคุณ
สวัสดีครับ. Kaawpkhunครับ. Your examples were great. It helped me to understand Thai language tones just a lil bit more.
Very useful advices. Khop khun mak 🙏
EXCELLENT EXPLANATIONS! WONDERFUL VIDEO
comparing the sounds to english expressions makes everything and practicing tones alot more easier
Great video.
Clear explanation of tones and very clear speaking voice with excellent pronunciation.
Thank you
Really an excellent lesson and better than other vidoes I tried. Thank you so much. Even though i can hear the rising versus falling, in practise i find these so easy to confuse. Especially the rising tone I struggle so much with this.
Wow! Thank you so much! You're the one who really taught us the tones that easy, and got them correctly!
Thank you so much! It is really helpful and so clear!!!
Wow I'm waiting for your another video...pls make it...pls
