Thanks very much.
Very important in these days to be very frugal with money. My parents were both born in the great depression days and looking back I'm amazed at what they were able to get by with. I'm just an old dude getting by with my two cats and a fish, (from rescue), so I don't need much. I'm enjoying your videos.
I agree...even these days it is possible to eat well with not much money, glad your enjoying the videos, hope you try some of the recipes.
Well its my go to channel, he does what on the tin, not looking to exploit the fact thats hes cooking, and not spending a fortune of the channels dividens on over priced food and calling it a (review) and prove you can still eat comfortably without branking the bank. Thanks you very much....I do like to keep things as simple as I can...loads more recipes to come.

Mark - and don’t forget people hit that thumbs up button this man deserves it 👍
Thanks a lot Mark, Hope you give it a go, it was really delicious and cost only pennies.
Great work! I make flatbread with 1 cup of self-raising flour, 3/4 cup of Greek yoghurt and a pinch of salt. Mix by hand into a ball. Cover and leave for 15 mins. Cut into four and roll into oblong shapes. Into a hot pan with a bit of Olive oil. Turn and cook the other side. You can add chives or herbs to the mix. Enjoy!
Nice. I'm pinching THAT.
Thanks.
😇😇😇😇
Sounds delicious....I'll give it a try. Thanks.
I make flatbreads the same way they come out a great every time I dry fry mine never fail
This looks great. I like to bake zucchini loaf, banana bread and orange or lemon loaf, they’re inexpensive and freeze well too. Nice with a cup of coffee or tea.
Another absolutely lovely, easy , inexpensive and filling dish ! And , if I may say so, presented by an equally lovely person. I have made a variation of this for years, except for the accompanying flat bread, what a yummy idea. This is similar to what Americans call chili. They serve it with soda crackers ( a type of savory biscuit) but here in Hawaii everyone eats it with rice . Chili and rice 😁 Thanks for another terrific meal, I especially appreciate that it is vegetarian.
Thanks a lot, I have made many variations of this recipe and I always enjoy it. I have more vegetarian recipes to come.
I made this last night and left it until 2day so it could marinate over night, it tasted lovely with rice and peppers added a lovely flavour too, really enjoyed this
Thanks a lot glad to hear you enjoyed it.
Simple but mouth watering, I'll definitely try this .
Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺 👍
Thanks a lot....hope you enjoy it.
Cannellini beans are wonderful. They're creamy beans, and I love the seasoning in this recipe.
Thanks, yes I do like the Cannellini beans, they go great in a bean burger too.
I love the way you use your stock cupboards and fridge so many cooks seem to expect you to shop for each meal in advance
Yes, this is simple every day cooking and baking....simple ingredients and delicious food. Thanks.

I’ve never had any luck making flatbreads - they always turn out leathery! I shall follow your excellent instructions and try again. Great cheap, healthy food, terrific nourishment and full of fibre 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks a lot, good luck with the flatbread.
Very easy, and healthy meal. Cost is rock bottom as well, which is a bonus. Would love to see a dish with tinned lentils, curried over rice. Tinned beans, lentils, chick peas are so useful, healthy and cheap. Love the way you can make bread, flat bread without all the expensive mixers.
I have a great lentil curry recipe to come. Costs pennies. Thanks.

Yes it was delicious....and even better the second day. Thanks.
I'm on a tight budget so when I watch your videos it gives me a chance to shop extra carefully, I love watching these videos. The vegetarian one is my favourite, could you call it vegan
It could be vegan...apart from the butter in the flatbread but that could be substituted with veg oil.
Yay!! Lovely meat free recipe. Thanks so much. 🙏❤
My pleasure. hope you give it a try.
Definitely doing this meal. And just to add extra value we have 2 great recipes in one video.

You are a genius Dave - thank you for your nutritious, cost effective and tasty ideas.
Thanks very much, loads more of these to come.
This sounds delicious! I thought I’d better tell you though, that in the Description section, your recipe for flatbread calls for 200ml water. Probably a good idea to adjust that! Thanks for posting.
Thanks, yes I'll correct that....that would be a runny flatbread.
That's Tea sorted 😀
Good, hope you enjoy it.
@@BakingOnABudget It was yummy and healthy too thanks 😀😀
Another one for the family table. Thank you so much sir 🙏
Your welcome, hope you enjoy it.
Great vego recipe, thank you very much! I just bought a tortilla press from Aldi (special buy). I will try making the flat breads with it!
Thanks, I hope they turn out great.
Love your recipe sir. Very cheap and looks amazing.

Thank you very tasty and simple for non meat eaters .x

Yes thank you...loved it.😋
I'm going to try this today. I've got everything in my pantry xxx
Hope you enjoy it, thanks for watching.
Genius!
Thanks a lot, do give the recipe a try
The recipe, especially the flatbread, looks really great, I must try all of this.
I make a child friendly chilli con (or sin) carne in a similar way. I throw in a tin of sweetcorn as well and add cumin instead of paprika.
It's one of our vacation recipes .
Thanks a lot, chilli is so versatile and I hope you enjoy the flatbread.
While it would be more work, dry beans are way less expensive. I'm from Texas and rice and beans are staple recipe around here. This looks like something I'd love to add to my repertoire. Of course, I'd probably make corn bread instead, but I love flat bread as well. Thank you again for an amazing, nutritious meal that I don't have to break the bank to make.
My pleasure...and yes beans and rice have got to me one of the least expensive but nutritious combos. Thanks
This is so lovely. I make bean stew a lot my family loves it. I use butter beans sometimes and I add chopped coriander to it and that elevates the flavour and makes it even more delicious. I’ll be making the flat bread next time I make the bean stew. Thank you ❤
My pleasure, hope you enjoy the flatbread.
I often cook a similar dish with chickpeas and garan marsala. Next time I will bake your bread with it. Thank you for your suggestion. greetings from Germany
Welcome from the UK.....yes loads of variations of this dish and real nice with the fresh flatbread.
Love your recipes! And It’s definitely cheaper👏🏻 Could you please do a video of making clotted cream from scratch?🙌🏼
Thanks a lot, I've never tried clotted cream but I'll give it a go.
Clever Dave x
Thanks, a real cheap and delicious meal and real simple to prep.
Thanks
Thanks very much, that's very generous and greatly appreciated.
Nice one Dave, never made flatbread with butter I just use flour, water and a drop of oil.
I'll give yours a try 👍
Thanks a lot, hope you enjoy them.
Great recipe and lovely ideas which don’t break the bank. But, why may, I ask do you throw the bean water down the sink. I usually use that liquid as part of the stew or save it to make other stews or soups.
I think it might have a lot of salt in it... so I usually discard it and rinse the beans. Thanks.
I’m amazed at how much more expensive our food is here - about twice as much for the canned goods, even more for an onion (95 us cents for one yellow onion at our local Hannaford grocery store, which is 79 pence). Your recipe is still a winner for the budget though.
We are absolutely caned on energy and fuel prices though.
79p for an onion! I get a bag full for about the same from the local fruit and veg shop.
😂 I tell him this almost every week! I'm in California.
@@dd7521I'm in California, the 2nd highest power prices in the US, behind Hawaii. And $5.50 per gallon for gas, highest in the US, tied with Hawaii. I truly feel your pain.
@@renel7303 I think UK and USA are really taking the brunt. Our petrol is over $8 a gallon and energy is around $192 per month. I've heard other Americans say how the prices have escalated massively too. I'd just love to see politicians manage on a fixed budget, they're all a bunch of c rooks imo..
lets goooooo
A delicious simple and inexpensive meal, hope you give it a try.
Tortillas
4 1/2 c flour
1Tbspn baking powder
1 tspn salt
3 tblspn shortening or lard ( do not usd butter)
1 1/2 c hot water
Mix all dry ingredients well
Add shortening mix very well
Push mixture to one side and mix hot water in a little at a time until all flour is wet. You might not need all the water depending on flour. Knead until dough is smooth a few minutes. Divide into 12 balls. Oil each ball and let rest about 15 minutes or so. Use a little oil to roll dough out if you use flour you burn it in pan.
In medium hot skillet add one Tortilla at a time. Turn once bottom is lightly brown . Cover with towel so they don't dry out. Cheap easy and so good with butter or whatever you like. Quesadillas are better with homemade Tortillas.
Sounds good, I'll give it a try. Thanks very much.
You could definitely use a higher ratio of flour to butter for your flatbreads and get three or more instead. My go to recipe is 5 cups flour to 1 cup oil or fat or shortening and up to 2. CUps water. Yes, i have a big family 😅 your flatbread broke as it was too short. It also rolls more round with less shortening. I make flatbreads regularly with black beans and spicy rice. Additions of leftover roast chicken or meat and a sprinkle of cheese make it extra tasty but I applaud your basic simple recipes and helping manage the rising costs of food.
Yes the flatbread was a little short (but delicious) I'm trying different flatbread recipes so thanks for yours, I'll cut the quantities down and try it. Thanks.
I love making stew with beans (butter beans are good too!) added. It's healthy and inexpensive. I don't care for the Chili powder, but everything else works great!
Thanks a lot, I also have a bean burger recipe to come.
that a good one . one i costed out a work and was 38p per portion was lentil and sweet potato curry
Yes lentil curry is a real good inexpensive meal and with some rice, bread and a homemade samosa....delicious. Thanks.
Basically it’s a vegetarian chili. Start out with an onion for extra flavour and then add spices such as chili powder and garlic even hot sauce. You can even add cumin etc for extra flavour. It won’t bump the price up much but will give a zing
Yes many personal variations can be made to the basc recipe. Thanks.
I don’t think that a tasty dish such as this could be any cheaper to make. To add some minced beef or shredded poultry would not significantly raise the cost. It’s nice that you have something for vegetarians. 😊
Thanks, many of the meals I make for myself are vegetarian and I'll share more in the future although I do eat meat as well....
Bravo Chef 😊
Or to put some curry powder in a minute or two before the tomatoes and then it becomes a bean curry
Thank you so much 👏👏as a vegetarian I’m always looking for new recipes ,will give this one a go for dinner.🙏🌟
Lovely recipe. Could you put some of the bean stew into pastry to make a pasty?
That's a good idea. I often put it in a wrap....but a pasty would be great.Thanks
@@BakingOnABudget I had to feed 8 of us on a small budget so came up with filling ideas.
Instead of rice, I suggest your favorite pasta......yum. Thank you.😊
Thanks a lot....yes you could serve it with pasta and that would be real nice too.
Thanks for this recipe will definitely try (although me doing rice is always dreadful)
I've only ever seen one person burn a pot of rice and she was japanese 😂
@@kaitlynlsari681 I just can’t do it honestly - never get it right 😅
Put it in boiling water stir it once than leave it alone.......10ins or so....delicious fluffy rice. Thanks
I was useless at rice until I got a microwave rice bowl… perfect results every time now.
@@natty258 I might need to get one of them 😉
I like to use a tins of mixed beans just for variety
Yes a tin of mixed beans would work well in this recipe. Thanks.
How about making a nice cauliflower cheese
That's something I've never tried....but good idea and I'll hunt out some recipes. Thanks.
It’s hard with kids get a passata instead of blending. Is it because of sizing smaller?😊😊
Yes a passata would work well....but I found it a little more expensive than a tin.
You could add some suasages to that "cut or whole" as it would add some body to it.
Yes some sausage would add something to it. Thanks.
I notice you don't use salt much in most of your recipes. Why is that.
It's just my taste....I don't like food too salty and there will be some i the tinned tomatoes. Thanks.
He makes cooking look enjoyable 😊
I find it enjoyable....and then you get to eat delicious food...it's a win win. Thanks.
I’ve done this but used a can of 3 bean mix in a chilli sauce. 80p a can. Otherwise followed your recipe
Yes you can use any sort of bean or a mix. Thanks.
200mls water? Sounds great otherwise. Thank you muchly.
Did I say 200ml? That is a mistake. Hope you give it a try....with a little less water. Thanks
@@BakingOnABudget Certainly will. You didn’t say it, it’s in the recipe listing.
Beans and Rice together in the same meal...it might be tasty but not for me thanks anyway
No, it's not for everyone....but it was delicious. Thanks.
Thanks
Thanks for watching.
