Seriously guys, 31 thumbs down? Who is hating on a genuine, honest and loving family video featuring father and a son sharing precious time together exploring the night skies? Two thumbs up to both guys for taking time to post this video. Please keep up the good work and ignore the naysayers. I just bought he same binoculars and struggled with similar issues you guys ran into -shakiness even with a sturdy tripod, failure to take photo with iphone w/o the adapter but it seems even with the adapter you had difficulty taking a photo. But that's a small glitch. On my first use yesterday and with lot of light and fog pollution, I enjoyed seeing the half moon!! Those craters look awesome!!!! These nights, Moon, Jupiter and Saturn are lined up over the horizon right after sunset. I couldn't get Jupiter in focus and only shows as bright point with Saturn in same FOV. I didn't see any Jupiter moons but it also could be due to brightness of the moon. I recommend using 'Sky View Lite' free iphone app to see what's visible in your area.
I've been using the 15x70 for a number of years now. The collimation was off recently so I had to realign them, easy enough procedure. They're great for grab and go but a tripod is a must if you want a stable view.
@@2dudesastronomy40 so I just bought these binoculars to see neowise the comet and I just wanted to say I really appreciate that y'all got on here and said what you can actually see because that was one of my biggest concerns I didn't want to spend a whole bunch of money on something that wasn't going to be able to see anything but the fact that you can even remotely see other galaxies is amazing I can't wait for night time
Asked my wife for these from Santa when I run outside quick and don't feel like dragging the telescope upstairs. Keeping my fingers crossed. Great review!
Good job guys. One thing that everyone who uses binoculars for astronomy should know is the concept of exit pupil. To find your exit pupil, take the second, bigger number (the objective size), and divide it by the first, smaller number (the power). So, for example, in a pair of 10x50 binoculars, your exit pupil is (50 / 10) = 5, or 5 millimeters. So what does that tell you? It will give you the relative image brightness when looking at faint objects. When your eyes adjust to the dark, your eyes' pupils really only open to about 7 mm at the most. So binoculars with exit pupils of 7 mm will provide the most light gathering power for faint objects (like 7x50's). When looking at bright objects, it's ok to trade image brightness for power, and use something with less of an exit pupil (like a 10x50 or 12x50). Hope this helps!
I have the same binoculars and I found that the supplied plastic tripod adaptor wasn't rigid enough, which meant the binoculars shook. Changing to a metal tripod adjuster improved things a lot.
In under 3 seconds - as soon as I saw you and your son(?) - I gave you a like. Well done and thank you. I have the binoculars on order and like how you both work together.
best review i've seen :) thank you sooo much for helping me figure out what to buy for a christmas present! you keep it sooo to the point - i'm also not an astronomy nerd (yet) and the focal length numbers don't mean much to me - i also just want to know what i could see with the binoculars!
Good, and honest review. I know it's honest because I just got my Celestron binoculars, mine are 20 x 80, so 5 x less than yours. Yes, it's quite shaky. Like you said, even on a tripod, if you so much as breathe on them they will shake. Difficult!
You can turn the binoculars into a computerised GPS locator by downloading some night sky app and having it attached to the binoculars while the app is running, that way you just move the tripod around while looking at the phone screen.
I have a 15x70 binoculars and there really good, seen: Orion Belt, Orion nebula, planets (Jupiter, Saturn, mars & venus), moon, 7 sisters, Hyades, stars and more and it's pretty amazing, love it!❤️ Awesome video😁

Great review really has helped me to learn about these binoculars before purchasing and has inspired me to most definitely buy them I'm just truly amazed at how far you can see things definitely the planets that's my most favourite to look forward to
Nice video guys....been debating if I should get a pair of giant binoculars. The point about Saturn (oval, but not the rings) was a good reference point... Now, a side note...as an older guy and old fashioned....I do not get this modern preoccupation with unboxing and how wonderful the packaging is...no one cared about that when I was kid...you can't actually use the packaging!! 🙂
Even with phone camera one can extract details in tiny visible celestial objects like Saturn and Jupiter. Adjust ISO setting and try that... Cloud bands of Jupiter should be visible.
@@2dudesastronomy40 fair enough, I also want to do some birdwatching or looking at things quite closer during the daytime so would the 15x70 be better ?
Really nice video guys - both enjoyable and useful. I have been having this same type of problem for years as many, many people have asked me to show them what you can see through binoculars, and not only for astronomy, but general use. The problem is, no matter how good my camera and digiscoping setup is, I never get it to produce the same level of quality and detail that you see with your eyes when looking through the instrument. You have not uploaded a video in a while - hope all is well and good with you and that you are safe in these crazy times - anything in the pipeline?
Thank you. This is a very informative and peaceful video. ..i just bought these binoculars 3 days ago but the vision gets quite shaky..and how can I recognize the Andromeda galaxy?? Also, is the tripod absolutely necessary to keep the equipment?
Thanks for watching!! Andomeda is going to look like a faint cloud in the sky. Almost like a smudge. The tripod will save your arms as these binos can get heavy!! The tripod will also keep your spot when you find something!
My first one had issues. Chiefly being that the ring holding the objective lense was skewed and I could not get a clear view. The replacement set is actually great for the low price. It was missing the plate for the adapter. However I built my own super heavy duty tripod so don't really need it. I couldn't see paying more for a tripod than the binoculars cost. I tried a low cost Amazon basic tripod but it could not hold the binoculars still. Even the slightest breeze cause the view to be useless.
@@2dudesastronomy40 don't buy zoom binoculars,i bought several pairs, some second hand and a couple of brand new ones, for astronomy as i like binoculars for that purpose, and all came badly out of collimation.
I have this issue where is does sag.. Im using the mount that came with the binoculars that are plastic.. do you guys get wobble with the metal mount?? Mine moves alot.. Im using everything in this video but just don't know if the extra celestron mount was metal or plastic in this video
As an absolute beginner, should I pick up a pair of binoculars (this exact model) or a telescope for about the same price? Also when you showed us Jupiter does it look like a huge white blurry spot like in the video or is there actual detail you can see of the planet?
I own the same binoculars. You will not see details on Jupiter. However, you can easily see Jupiter's moons. I even saw them when Jupiter was next to a streetlight which was extremely impressive. You can actually see the rings of Saturn if you look at it hard. My favorite thing to look at with these is the Moon. The details are vivid. I also have solar filters that I use to look at the Sun. Please don't look at the Sun without filters! Other fun targets are Venus (you can see the phases of it), Mars, the Pleiades, and stars in general. I would definitely get these since these binoculars are high quality. Telescopes are usually more expensive which means a telescope at the same price as this might be frustrating to use. If you want a telescope, you'll need more money and don't buy department store telescopes since they are usually lower quality. For a first telescope, I would recommend getting the Apertura AD8 dobsonian ($450 included with $200 worth of accessories included which are very useful) from High Point Scientific. If you can't afford to use more money, just get these binoculars because views are really impressive. But make sure to have a tripod to carry the binoculars since they are very heavy for binoculars.
@ Thanks. If the magnification is less, then why would the image quality be better? (I'm new to this and want to buy my 1st big binocular to see as much as I can)

Hey! Yes you can see planes pretty good! Views of the mountains from out house is also amazing! Even just scanning the daytime sky you will see all kinds of birds flying as well!
Hey, thank you both for this! I have a few questions: -Is this way too heavy to use without a tripod? -I noticed that even with the tripod, it was shaking; is it the case that it doesn't hold fast enough with the adapter? -Would you recommend this for a beginner? Or do you find that something slightly lighter and easier to handle would be better? From personal experience I feel that writing reviews almost immediately after purchase is not always the best, because certain things only become clearer with time. So I am very curious about your experience so far and I would really appreciate your honest feedback! P.s. At first thought you were brothers or cousins. It's so cool that you are father and son.
Thanks for watching! They are heavy and will get tired of holding them but they are way more sturdy on a tripod. They do shake a bit but for the most part they are great. I keep them on my counter and use them to scan the sky when i let the dogs out. I probably use these more than anything else because they are so high quality and easy to use. Also by using 2 eyes instead of one with a telescope you get a bigger view of the sky and makes finding things easier to find. I cant recommend them enough!
I have the same binoculars but I can't see planets very well. Can't see Saturn's rings or Jupiter's colors ( I can see Jupiter's moons though). When I focus on the planets, all I see are sparkly star shaped objects - basically what I see with the naked eye but closer.
