Jeeesus, that councilwoman is simply incredible... "being asked to wear a mask makes me feel like Rosa Parks"? She's hitting levels of whiteness I didn't even know were possible to achieve, and I'm a ginger girl who glows in the dark and is physically incapable of getting a suntan.
I don't even know what I am. White supremacists say I'm not white, and every brown person on the planet says I am. Like, what's the point of being a straight, white male if the Nazis still want to kill me? I don't hate the privilege aspect, though. I just wish everyone else was treated as well as whitey.
Oh really? Well it was a little weird how she started saying that the simple fact that she doesn't believe in wearing a mask for other people's Comfort is getting her ostracized and then all of a sudden and short succession people started bouncing out of the conference call disregarding any of her valid points that she was making. Yeah that's strange almost like exactly what she was saying happened. You can use words to try to blow something out of proportion but she was just using Rosa Parks as an example. And for people to jump on that and try to make it something that it isn't is clear and simple evidence that they don't have anything else evidence wise to stand on.
@@johnsmirh8695 the problem in her comparison is that she brought up a segregation issue. The level of stupidity to bring in an incident of civil rights protest into a conversation about being rejected for not wearing a mask (something that is not really her place to judge - she gets ostracized because no one wants to potentially get covid off of her. Not because of the colour of her skin). Wearing a mask isn't a civil rights issue particularly in comparison to black rights because the level of discrimination is not even close to actually comparable. On the one hand black people were treated as if they were a disease, on the other hand she gets treated like she has a disease because she very well might have/get one and infect someone else because she isn't covering her mouth (the primary vector for covid).
Why do you use "whiteness" as an insult? If you don't use "blackness" as an insult, you shouldn't use the other. What this council person demonstrated was a lack of historical awareness coupled with grandiose thinking, selfishness and narcissism. It has nothing to do with her race (she's multiracial) and everything to do with foolish, selfish naiveté.

If anyone approached me and said "Would you please take off your mask? science shows you shouldn't be wearing it, your mask is making me uncomfortable" I'd hand them a potted plant to carry around to replace the air they're wasting

If you keep calling for child protection services because a child is wearing a mask, I am sure someone would show up. Maybe they will take you to a more proper place so these poor kids won’t get stalked by crazy people.

When I taught about the bubonic plague I remember students being shocked and unable to understand how many strange, awful, and illogical things people did out of fear of the plague. They saw the people as ignorant and backwards. I plan on wearing masks long after I'm vaccinated. I love that it's an extra accessory I can pick, I can mouth words and lyrics, and have genuine reactions without others seeing. I'm more comfortable with one on now.

I bought a plastic mask bracket from 4Ocean and it's made wearing a mask a million times more comfortable. I definitely plan to continue wearing one especially since this is never going to end. Even if we reach herd immunity dumb anti-vaxers are going to keep mutating new strains.
The only makeup I do is on my lips, and with mask, I don't even need to do that! MY THING!
Not to mention when it's really cold outside. It makes breathing much more comfortable; less freezing air.

It makes me so mad that people are refusing to get vaccinated. My family is in Canada and they are so short on vaccinations. My grandma is 93, received her first dose a month ago, but she’s unable to get the second dose until the middle of JULY!! She is the sweetest lady and it breaks my heart that she is living her last years pretty much alone in isolation. I FaceTime her many times a day, but it’s just not the same. I am a student in the US, soI haven’t been able to see any of my family in over a year, because I’m trying to do the right thing and keep people safe and not be selfish.
It’s just become readily available in my city. I got my first one today and I’ll get the second. I lost loved ones to hospital overcapacity and I get apoplectic when I see anti vax protests or people refusing to mask up.
The vax is safe and Free to everyone. get your life back.
If it makes you feel better, some studies indicate better overall immunity if the second shot is given 12+ weeks after the first one
the worst is that other vulnerable groups in Canada can't get vaxxed yet. Two of my friends' moms are immunocompromised from cancer treatments but they aren't allowed to get vaccines yet. I am somewhat immunocompromised, have multiple chronic conditions and have an intellectual disability but I can't get one. Right now the second shot doesn't matter as badly as the first does and we don't have enough to even do that meanwhile we're waiting for the US to finish vaccinated so that we can buy or borrow vaccines from the US surplus. Most of Canada's vaccines are coming from Europe (and I think India) and its absolutely insane. Plus there are those contracts that prevent the States from distributing certain vaccines to other countries
I know, there are many of my family and friends who are immunocompromised that still have yet to receive their first dose as well. It just boils my blood that there are all these doses available down here and people refusing to get them, while others are literally dying because they don’t have access to them. Yet, the people who refuse the vaccination are often the first ones to cry about their rights being taken away because businesses are unable to operate normally and have to enforce certain regulations.

I hope we will be able to send you vaccines soon. At least we have a competent President now who has made sure we have an oversupply. I think the only hold-up now is the dire situation in India because President Biden has promised them vaccines. I hope you stay well until we can help. I'm sure the business community is pushing for sharing vaccines behind the scenes because they want our border open.
