I have had a lot of experience with both lines of these tools. Went a lot of years with Milwaukee and after about 1 1/2 years all the Milwaukee's were going down hill so i decided to try the cheaper De Walt. Very similar service up to the 6 month period but after that it was down hill pretty quick. We normally had our tools repaired at Home Depot but the big difference was the time it took to get them repaired. The De Walt had to go back to the factory. I think either would be good for the average do-it yourselfer but in a commercial setting the Milwaukee wins out. I enjoy your videos and they spark a lot of ideas for me, keep up the good work.
Hey Cody, love your videos always. But for these, it would be great to see you actually test them with real world tests first. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE seeing these get destroyed, but actually knowing which one can be the better drill in everyday use is the only important take away. Thanks and God Bless you!
It would be interesting, but Hitli isn't really relevant to most people watching his videos. Hilti makes nice stuff but its mostly for large contractors not the Wranglerstar audience.
+dminor214 That's not fair, Hilti is in another range and don't have a hobby line for the Milwaukee to own. Pro line DeWalt and Hilti are pretty much equal and you can't get Milwaukee's in that class.
The Milwaukee has a stop relay when overloaded so it just locks when overloaded. The de Walt just keeps running and starts smoking. So this is not a good comparison.
It's a fine comparison, seeing as how Milwaukee has a feature that makes it both safer to use and more durable as a result. The DeWalt is an inadequate tool for heavier use.
I think it's a good comparison. Ones made with safety and makes it so my dumbass wont break it. Dewalt be smoking like snoop and I think that makes it trash. Yes the good one costs more but it's worth it and it's only $50. Health insurance costs more and you need that to live.
Yeah I agree and also the dewalt has a brushed motor. BTW I know I'm late to the comment section but he should have purchased at least a brushless dewalt if he's comparing the 2. There's dewalt brushless drills for right around the same price as the milwaukee drill.

I love watching your videos. Just a thought, you should consider keeping a record of head to head competitions of equivalent tools and making a March madness style bracket to see which is best. Each video you could move the winners forward to keep track.
How about an actual torque torture test on these drills? Put in some large fasteners, drill some large holes....? Just going chuck to chuck with these really isn't a good test because both are designed to "lock" when not turning, the reason the Milwaukee isn't hot is because it wasn't doing anything.
The theory behind the test is good and cool, see which one has more torque, the only problem with is your not actually testing that because both "lock" when not turning.
On a serious note, we've done construction all my life. We put pretty much all of the namebrand tools through the ringer. Makita & Milwaukee always come out on top. You pay a little bit more, but more power for sure and they fit to your hand a little better typically. Dewalt has come a long ways and they're always a lot cheaper. Good tools just not quite as powerful and kind of clunky.. If you get a chance check out Dewalts utility knife and tape measure they're both excellent tools. I highly recommend them. Thanks for the review.. Luke
I've put my makita grinders and drills through 2 house remodellings and a LOT of car diy stuff and they still hold up. I also have a nearly 40 year old drywall drill from makita that I got passed down from my dad and his dad. That thing is a tank - on its 6. or 7. power cord but that thing just goes! I'll always go for makita
personally i like the rigid hand tools, my sisters boyfriend is a plumber and uses all rigid stuff, likes it , so he tried the power tools, was not impressed. i trust his opinion enough not to bother with the rigid power tools and stick with dewalt/makita/milwaukee
Yeah, I agree. If you're a contractor or professional handyman, then you should definitely invest in Makita & Milwaukee. For the homeowner or DIYer who only uses the tools a few times in a week, but who still wants good quality tools, DeWalt is a good option.
It’s funny how every trade leans towards a different brand. Where I’m located, framers DEWALT, Tin knockers Makita, Pipefitters Milwaukee, Sparky’s are all over the place haha
There is a difference in doing timber framing and screwing lids on to connectionboxes, and everything inbetween. The sparky I know carries two, one for hanging cable ladders, and a small one one for everything else
The worst thing about this comparison is the huge difference in the value of the drill. The dewalt costs about £35 as a bare tool, with the batteries etc making up the rest of the cost. The Milwaukee is worth about £70 as a bare tool, so you're looking at twice the drill. Something like a dewalt dcd796 can be bought as a kit for $150 and is one of the best compact drills on the market
not bias at all! 1. He was screwed over by a dewalt sponsorship a couple years ago. 2. That's an entry level BRUSHED Dewalt vs a BRUSHLESS not entry level Milwaukee. Not even close to a fair test.
@Cuckada no, it's the problem of the company who hires them,You see all the techniques, materials and technologies are the same If those companies pay more to the chinese, the chinese can still do the same high quality you wanted It's just because most products are made from china, the number of bad quality is ofc more while you dont commonly see products are made from other country. Besides, the whole world's product supply relies on china, what do you expect
Perhaps if you bumped the dewalt up to the $150 as equivalent to the milfukyee, there would be a much more fair comparison. $50 will get quite a lot in manufacturing.
I've had a $150 Milwaukee Drill that gets daily use for the past 6 years. Never have had a single problem with it. Cannot say the same about other drills... cough dewalt cough
I've only owned dewalt, and so far impressed with their tools. The shop I work at owns a Milwaukee 3/4 inch and that thing has out powered air sometimes
@@YoureUsingWordsIncorrectly oh my god milwaukee makes terrible drill bits, true trash. in my experience makita and bosch make the best drill bits and dewalt makes some pretty good bits as well. it's depends on what kind of bit you're talking about.

A good, helpful 'real world' test would include drops from a ladder, running the drill covered in sheetrock dust or dirt, leave it in the truck bed during a rainstorm and see if it works, see how many holes you can bore or screws you can drive before the battery runs out, then test how long it takes to charge the battery. Face it, your 'see which one burns out first' tests would get you kicked off a jobsite...

I used to work in construction dealing with a lot of concrete work and sometimes redo a lot of concrete with metal framing. Dewalt works pretty good is decent but doesn't last long. I switch to milwaukee because i got a deal on home depot and last me years was suprised how much it held up and battery life was great.
i once saw such a chinese saw where the piston was split in half from the factor and was only held together by the pistonring. The sawjust refused to start, thats how the owner noticed.
If I'm not mistaken, you're testing tools from wrong categories. I see that milwaukee has metal gearbox, while dewalt appears to have plastic one. I guess, you should test Dewalt XR/XRP series vs. Milwaukee. This test is just like testing Green Bosch vs. Blue Bosch.
That is not a high end milwaukee. It would have to be the brushless (mid level) or Fuel brushless (high end). Ive owned both of these exact drills, had the dewalt first, and it simply isnt built as well. In my experience ive had better luck with milwaukee motors, but wish they had the battery of dewalt. Although, i have had issues with both brands. Im simply a milwaukee guy, but i cant knock dewalt.
lol, Voooddoo You obviously bought a green bosch, I do have most tools milwaukee, very happy with it, can't say single bad word about them , but that kind of abuse and damage Bosch take and still be working cant find anywhere else
Interesting. I bought the drill/driver set years ago (long before the Fuel line) and it came with belt clips. After years of hard use, I've never even tightened them or replaced them. I love my Milwaukee tools. The range of specialized cordless tools from them is also impressive. My buddy swears by DeWalt, and he's a contractor (I did get him to admit it was cheaper to outfit his crew with DeWalt), and he hasn't had any issues.
Marketing. They all use lithium 18650 battery cells in series. Lithium batteries have a working voltage range between 3.7 and 4.2v. One manufacturer lists ~5x the lowest voltage, the other approximates 5x the maximum voltage. Theoretically these batteries both work between about 18.5 and 21 volts in a charged vs discharged state. In the real world it's slightly less. That's why they give 18 and 20v figures. Fyi, laptops and tesla both use these 18650 cells as well. At least for now.
Do you have the new version of the Milwaukee Hammer drill but why don’t You have the new version of the hammer drill for the Dewalt 20-Volt MAX XR Cordless Brushless 3-Speed 1/2 in. Hammer Drill (Tool-Only)
Trevor Gentry it's just a normal 18V drill but it's branded as "20v max" meaning that when the battery is fully charged it is 20V. So all 18V drills are actually "20v max" its just DeWalt uses it as a marketing strategy.
Trevor Gentry The the walking Macy 20 V but it ready an 18 V drill with the peak of 20 V just like the more it's the grade of grill that you used witches

Yes, I have to say: I am a contractor, and in my experience the Miwalkees are the best even compared to the Hilts? (sorry I don't know how to pronounce the name. -- I have burned a Rigid on a deck once and I have to buy a Miwalkee to finish the project while I sent the Rigid (impact driver) for service (because they still have a good warranty on their tools - but Miwalkees are the best for "your money".
In order to test the toughness of a tool, you gotta put it to work. The type of work it was designed to do. Things like torque, speed, battery life, charging time, drop test and so on. This is an entertaining video but not very useful.
You're right, but it would take years to determine the winner if you do only what they were designed to do. I dont have that much time. I got work to do.
that's not a good test. When you click on the trigger and the moter is not turning, you are not testing the drill's ability. the motor is jammed at a certain electrical contact point. nothing more. you are not really proving anything. You should set up a pulley with weights, so that you can test the moter's turning ability. You can peform a number of tests. eg. get the drill to lift 50 lb over 8 ft, and see which drill can do it faster. if you test it over, say, 100 times, you can also test the battery's endurance.
Yes! glad someone said this, all this videos shows is which performs best in a stall situation where the overload needs to operate. No load test whatsoever
As a basic handy tool, that Dewalt was a great deal got a drill 2 batteries with a full drill bit and screw heads for 60CAD on amazon. I'm not gonna be making mortar with it but it does everything else including a little bit of concrete drilling if your patient.
Yes true, and I’m a dewalt fan. Each company makes good tools and shitty tools. Each company makes better tools in a certain category. I own all three brands in the best for the job tools. Dewalt makes the best saws. Chop Saw, table saw etc. Milwaukee makes best drills/ and make the best/ invented the sawzall Makita makes the best specialty tools, like drywall screw gun, jackhammer, etc.
This is not a real world test. Nobody would use their tools in such a manner. Real world testing would be something on the order of how many 1 inch holes can be drilled through 4x4's on one battery charge, and how long does it take, all things being even. This would test battery power, drill torque, speed, etc.
I had a job a year ago laying tile and corded drill for mixing mortar broke. Used my milwaukee compact. Laid 1700 sq ft of tile and it had no problem mixing all the mortar.

David Puls Just get Makita
Been mixing tons of thin set mortar with my 1/2" Milwaukee drill for over a month and it's still hanging there!
a month of use isn't going to kill anything. even a ryobi could survive that, give it a few years and you'll know how reliable it really it.

Hey Cody, love your videos always. But for these, it would be great to see you actually test them with real world tests first. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE seeing these get destroyed, but actually knowing which one can be the better drill in everyday use is the only important take away. Thanks and God Bless you!
Matt Endres probably both good for everyday just you know which will last longest...
Everyday use? What that isn't what a drill is for? Well damn, I always wondered why they didn't sell them in pairs since two were always needed.
Love to see a video like this featuring Harbor Freights new cordless drills
Which is better of the two is kind of subjective. They're both great drills
Next do Hilti vs box store brands
It would be interesting, but Hitli isn't really relevant to most people watching his videos. Hilti makes nice stuff but its mostly for large contractors not the Wranglerstar audience.
DarkRaptor99 I hear that.
Hilti has a comprable drill
+dminor214 That's not fair, Hilti is in another range and don't have a hobby line for the Milwaukee to own.
Pro line DeWalt and Hilti are pretty much equal and you can't get Milwaukee's in that class.

fiv3esixX yeah

You sir are a hero among men.
How about an actual torque torture test on these drills? Put in some large fasteners, drill some large holes....? Just going chuck to chuck with these really isn't a good test because both are designed to "lock" when not turning, the reason the Milwaukee isn't hot is because it wasn't doing anything.
Duct tape the vents , grab a 3 inch hole saw ,and try cutting through 6 inches of steel
Idon;t think he is serious with these tests or at least I hope he isn't.
I definitely won't duct tape the vents, that would not be a "real" world test.
Nothing he does is real world lmao.
Luke
Back to the Basics 101 i agreed 100%,always used makita and tbey rarely fail when you need them the most..
Just curious, what are your thoughts on RIgid tools?
personally i like the rigid hand tools, my sisters boyfriend is a plumber and uses all rigid stuff, likes it , so he tried the power tools, was not impressed. i trust his opinion enough not to bother with the rigid power tools and stick with dewalt/makita/milwaukee
Us multi trades use milwaukee
When you wanna do everything your a fool not to have red in your hand.
Sparky is sparky, sparky do what sparky do
There is a difference in doing timber framing and screwing lids on to connectionboxes, and everything inbetween.
The sparky I know carries two, one for hanging cable ladders, and a small one one for everything else
I don’t think this DeWalt is an actual one that framers use.
Why is everyone hating on this guy, saying it’s not a real world test? Making them arm wrestle is the best way to see which is stronger.
I saw you had no comments so here you are 1 comment.🙂
Here’s another
The worst thing about this comparison is the huge difference in the value of the drill. The dewalt costs about £35 as a bare tool, with the batteries etc making up the rest of the cost. The Milwaukee is worth about £70 as a bare tool, so you're looking at twice the drill.
Something like a dewalt dcd796 can be bought as a kit for $150 and is one of the best compact drills on the market
jamdoginc and that 796 would have been a much more appropriate comparison.
I'm also fairly sure that's a brushless Milwaukee
It's been a while since I see this comment and let me remind you that these are both brushed

If I'm not mistaken, you're testing tools from wrong categories. I see that milwaukee has metal gearbox, while dewalt appears to have plastic one. I guess, you should test Dewalt XR/XRP series vs. Milwaukee. This test is just like testing Green Bosch vs. Blue Bosch.
hangebicom I agree he bought a low end DeWalt and a high end Milwaukee
That is not a high end milwaukee. It would have to be the brushless (mid level) or Fuel brushless (high end). Ive owned both of these exact drills, had the dewalt first, and it simply isnt built as well. In my experience ive had better luck with milwaukee motors, but wish they had the battery of dewalt. Although, i have had issues with both brands. Im simply a milwaukee guy, but i cant knock dewalt.

Interesting. I bought the drill/driver set years ago (long before the Fuel line) and it came with belt clips. After years of hard use, I've never even tightened them or replaced them. I agree, i dont know anyone that buys that type of dewalt drill. I usually have an impact or a hammer drill. Those drills are worthless
The dewalt is an 18v battery too, they’re just marketing it as 20v max because a fully charged 18v battery will read as 20v on a multimeter
And Milwaukee copy righted 18v so you have to pay them to use it

This test was done with the low-end hundred dollar DeWalt versus a $50 more Milwaukee which they make a comparable drill in price and build
But the Dewalt is a 20v.
Trevor Gentry it's just a normal 18V drill but it's branded as "20v max" meaning that when the battery is fully charged it is 20V. So all 18V drills are actually "20v max" its just DeWalt uses it as a marketing strategy.

The check is in the mail...

This is called a stress test. Stress tests never test real world because they'd probably last years.
Basically this is as relevant as the Ford, GM, Dodge truck debate... who cares what one is better. They all do the intended job very similarly.
that's not a good test.
MetaView7 this is a really cool idea and it might clear the air of people's dissatifaction
