The idea that Star Wars fans would hate someone because they are black is actually very insulting. We hate poorly written characters.
It has been proven that those stupid threats and racist/bigoted/mysogynist comments come from a small loud (idiotic) minority. But companies now hold on to that like it is gold, because they can use it to publish those on social media and create this perception that any negative/critique comment is made by racists, etc. It also supports them getting "evidence" of their effort of implementing ESG ratings, which most companies are worried with these days as that scheme will attract a lot of external investment. (that is why metrics like "sales" and business related similar ones are no longer a top priority - meaning customers are not as relevant to business anymore, we are now part of the product actually, the true clients are the investors).

Omg thank you for a perfect review. You’ve articulated all the issues. The worst sin is forgetting all the established lore. I’ve been a Star Wars fan for 43 years and this show makes me sad.
The two best ways to turn people against your cause: (1) block traffic for your cause and (2) ruin Star Wars for your cause. The Acolyte is actively turning neutral people against the LGBT community
When Christians proselyte heavy and force their message in people’s faces (repent or you’ll go to hell), people will get a bad feeling for your organization. When gays got civil rights and marriage I was like good for them. Now they’re putting pride flags on the streets, and I’m getting lectured on why I must be on board with kid drag shows, kids getting their bodies permanently altered, and drivers getting charged with felonies if they skid across a pride flag on the street (maybe paint them on walls)? I feel like LGBT groups are getting in my face with accept everything we say or you’re evil. (Repent or go to hell.) the best way to promote your cause is to be a good example to others as you live a life your cause promotes. Block me on my way to work and I’ll be forever against your cause.

Last night I watched the extended edition Fellowship of the Ring in cinema, the LOTR being my favourite of all time movies, and it occurred to me that I never wondered about the race of the actors, their sexuality or gender expression or anything like that, while I watched them over and over as a teen growing up in Iran. I didn’t really understand much English either, but it didn’t matter. They hooked me because they were amazing. The character development came first. This show is just insulting our intelligence and being a Star Wars fan is becoming a bit exhausting at this point.
Anyone remember when the biggest shows for young adults were Hercules the legendary journeys, Xena warrior princess, Buffy the vampire slayer, Angel, Smallville, Teen wolf, Highlander or the X-files? Plenty of characters of every stripe with way better stories. What happened?

I have lightsabers, full card sets, figures, and one of the original full-sized numbered replicas of the Han Solo in Carbonite.... that said, I have embraced the pre-quals, and the Clone War series, I even liked Rogue One and Solo, but everything else SUCKS. Episodes 7, 8, and 9 were a pathetic joke, meant to insult the fans. They were trying to cater to a new audience, and they failed. A new audience doesn't want to be pampered, they want to be entertained and challenged. What Disney did was an attempt to cater to a new demographic. What they failed to realize is that that demographic doesn't want to be patronized, and the original fans are puking. These aren't the fans you're looking for.

You completely nailed it. If your primary intent is to tell a personal story, make something original instead of poorly shoehorning it into an established IP.
An excuse I was given by someone that interacts with the industry on and off was "that's the only way to get things made in Hollywood. How else are you going to get into theaters? There's no other choice; you don't get to choose what's on the menu". And I just have to ask, over and over: Why do we _need_ to go through Hollywood? Why do we _need_ to put things into _all_ the theaters straight away? Why are these people too afraid to start their own, smaller things and build up some sort of competition so that we don't "need" Hollywood? And if these people are going to insist on "needing" Hollywood, why can't they at least bring their A-game?! I may not be able to choose the menu at my job, but I at least make sure the food's made _properly!_ XD
Nobody would watch it then. That's why they have to shoehorn their messaging into established IP's. You would think that fact would tell them everything they need to know, people aren't interested, but they're so narcissistic I think they believe people will come around to it if they're forced or fooled into it. And if not, they gotta be some sort of phobe or ist.
@@TaoScribble Agreed! Honestly... now, more than ever, is a great time (and a crappy time) to be a creator/maker/story-teller. It's great because the tools needed to make incredible content are much more accessible to mere mortals without huge Hollywood budgets. If you have an idea, you can shoot it on a phone, edit it in free software, and end up with something that probably looks as good as many big-budget films of ye olden times. Add a modest budget (no need for 180 million) and the quality and possibilities jump exponentially. There are a variety of platforms to publish and promote your work with the only real crappy side that I see being the sheer amount of content and noise you have to compete with and cut through. Since people are comparing the story-telling in Acolyte to Rashomon (uh... right), I gave it a watch last night. There are some shots with really great camera moves that were completely out of focus. The challenges Kurosawa faced shooting a film in the 50s doesn't detract from the story. The balance of beautifully framed shots outweighs the handful where the focus puller couldn't keep up. An incredible story or idea can overcome the occasional execution flaw. I think most people would take a great story over amazing CGI. I think most Star Wars fans would welcome exploration of and even a bit of stretching and challenging of lore within the context of great story-telling and compelling characters. Hollywood is clearly risk-averse and that is a huge problem. The glut of bad prequels, sequels, and flat out remakes is testament to an industry in stagnation. It's simply poor leadership. When we look at all of the really bad movies out there, we need to realize that a very large group of people of varying talent worked really hard on the project. However, there is always a very small group of people that have the final say and drive the creative vision. If that person or group can't look at something and clearly see that it's terrible, confusing, illogical, contrived, or simply not to the highest possible standards that time, talent, and budget allow... well... all the talent in the world can't fix bad direction and poor executive decision-making. I suspect there is a culture that's been created where creative friction and constructive dissent isn't encouraged. It feels like the people in charge surround themselves with people unable or unwilling to point out flaws-"That's what the boss wants and I get paid whether it's good or bad." Sorry... gotta step down from the soap box. In the end, I believe the story-tellers and visual visionaries are out there. I have faith that Star Wars, as an idea, can come back. Star Wars was created around ideas that are timeless and universal. I think it's time for fresh leadership and a new vision.
@@TaoScribble Its called money and not wanting to sacrifice comfort.. To go independent means you have to actually be brave and courageous, to truly believe and work for your art. But nearly no one wants to leave their cozy life to tell their "personal" stories. It has always been like that. From the pool of great artists that we admire today though, many got their work famous after they were dead, many due to poverty. In a couple of months this show will already be completely forgotten, because its a soulless empty husk of a once successful IP (because at least it used to have a bit of a soul and identity) and so no one will remember it in the far future. And in its place, true art - that is currently covered by the shitty noise like this show - will probably see recognition and rise to mainstream success in that far future. Probably after their creators are gone as usual, but that is their sacrifice. They sticked to their art.
Oh Amala, this critique was on point. Thanks for watching episode 3 and sparing others from doing so. Please dont subject yourself to anymore, you have done enough, and your sacrifice will not be forgotton.

It literally blows my mind how horrible Disney is at writing stories these days. There has to be some class action lawsuit the shareholders can bring against the people running the show over there. Years from now, this era of Disney will be taught in Universities as what not to do in business classes, art classes, and law classes. So sad at this point.

The fact that you can show any part of this show to someone and they wont instantly know its starwars says a lot. Non of this is star wars, and it never will be.
To be fair, if they are night sisters, they send men in their society to be warriors. Darth Maul is the son of a night sister and he was just a warrior. I think this show sucks, but a lot of people don't seem to know much of the lore. Lol
"They could have made something original." Exactly, but that is the very problem - they are just not cabable of creating anything, they lack talent, they lack creativity. Therefore they have to misuse already existing structures set up by others with more talent.

I honestly have no issue with them calling it "thread" since Nightsisters use "magick", which is their term for the Force. What I have an issue with is that they're not sticking to the confines of the lore, and just haphazardly making up stuff that's retconning the established lore
I am so glad I turned off the first episode after "attack me with everything you got" (or something like that, can't remember). I really appreciate this complete break down of episode 3.
"The Force was an energy field created by all life that bound everything in the universe together. It was known by a variety of names throughout galactic history. It was called the Ashla by the Lasats, the Life Current by the Mustafarians, the Tide by the Lew'elans, the Sight by the Chiss, the Life Wind by the Zeffonians, the Great Presence by the Pathfinders of the Chaos, the Luminous Mist by the Mist-Weavers, the Unity by the Sorcerers of Tund, the Beyond by the Magys and her people, the Thread by Aniseya's coven of witches, or simply It by the dianoga Omi." - Wookieepedia. The Force was never an "appropriation" for anything. The witches don't own the Force, or the Thread. They're one of many cultures who can feel it.
That’s fair enough, but Star Wars recognized it as the force. Let Headland create her own universe with ‘the thread.’ Why change an existing canon that fans love and will spend money on?
I could accept the thread, I've played the Jedi survivor games and that was a great story with the witches, but these writers clearly don't care if the show is good as long as they get to preach their negative world views at you by inserting them into the Star Wars Galaxy. I don't want to watch that, I want to watch cool sci-fi space stuff not the news. It feels crass and tacky the way they wedge it into the story making no effort to weave it in smoothly, like if they stuck Beats headphones, a "Drink Coke" shirt and Crocs on Darth Vader and we aren't supposed to notice the priority was just to sell us stuff not to produce more story for the fans.

Is this true? First a fire in space now fire consumes stone? This is truly high fantasy with fire the supernatural villain!
@CyclonezTheSage-vf8ps Which is awful as well. I'm tired of Disney trying to paint the Jedi as equally evil as the Sith. George Lucas never intended for them to be evil. Naive yes, but not evil.

Amala, " i watched The Acolyte". You have my deepest sympathy. Just hearing that scene made me sick to my stomach.
I think Disney will stop insulting fans and make content with good stories once they go bankrupt. Don’t hate watch it folks just don’t watch it period
You can tell somethings wrong when Children reject the propaganda. Telling stories isn't at all hard to do, but with a clear heart.
I grew up a Star Wars fan. Now I don’t even want to show my son the old Star Wars because I don’t want him to want to get into the new Star Wars.
This Is The Way
Show him the original 6 and then the Mufasa line about the place we don’t go
Show him the Harmy Despecialized editions of the OT. It's the original Theatrical Release versions... It was harder to make than you'd think. The old Lazer Disc versions are sloppy copies. You can find them for free... just do a search.
I think your son would enjoy the animated shows and Lego stuff. If there 12yo they’ll probably enjoy the mandalorian as a space western
Most of the Disney starwars is just guilty of being mediocre and polarizing to fans, it’s still suitable for kids and mature youth.
I feel this.
The redeeming Star Wars when Kennedy gets fired will start off as Luke waking up from a Nightmare.
Yes!!! Please keep watching it and giving reviews! I love watching you articulate just how bad you find it. AND, since I have no plans on ever watching it, at least I have an idea of what's going on in it.
Amala, you flippin' ROCK!!!!

I'm a HUGE SW fan. I saw the original Ep. 4 in the theater when I was 9.

20 years ago heads would be rolling in any business if something like this was happening.
The sheer hatred coming from these businesses of today towards its customers is astounding.
Sometimes I wonder if Disney is trying to outdo Bud Light on both stupidity and bigotry.
It feels like the people in charge surround themselves with people unable or unwilling to point out flaws-"That's what the boss wants and I get paid whether it's good or bad."
Sorry... gotta step down from the soap box.

The Force was never an "appropriation" for anything. The witches don't own the Force, or the Thread. They're one of many cultures who can feel it.
No, now the "Force is Female" and only female.. Go away, you and your brain and being a true fan and doing proper research into the lore.
