I think if I were loading a 4x12” cabinet, I would go for the DV-77. But I put a Swamp Thang in my little open 1x12” gigging combo and I really like how its deep scooped sound makes the small box sound bigger. And it sits in a mix extremely well. I played for a really loud bar band on the weekend and didn’t even need to turn up very loud to cut through.
The Swamp Thang and DV-77 both have the same cone size. The ST has a larger 2" voice coil vs the more standard (for guitar) 1.75" voice coil. The power handling difference will come from the larger voice coil and some other component factors.
I’ve been looking into buying the DV-77 recently. I bought a mode four cab a while back for 200 bucks, but they had swapped the speakers out for cheap acoustic lab crate branded speakers. Keep up the good work man I’ve been watching ever since your Schecter amp videos👍
I would love to get that Mode Four cab! Sucks they swapped the speakers though! To be honest, the 77 is my favorite live speaker I've played so far. You should do it! That's awesome! Thanks for sticking with me for a full year now!
Supposedly IRs are indistinguishable from actual speakers. If that’s true my favorite IR is the eminence CV75. It’s more open sounding than the DV77 and more mids than the V30. Not for everybody but I dig that speaker/IR.
I actually like the Swamp Thang more with my Orange amps. I paired them with Weber Silver Wolves to add some bite back without adding too much high end. Had the DV-77s but ultimately preferred Celestion's options for tight/quick riffing and sold 'em. Swamps compliment the Thunderverb 200 so well due to being able to handle the low end.
I've never heard of the Weber Silver Wolves. I'll have to look into those. I really like both of these speakers a lot, but Celestion makes solid speakers as well. Thunderverbs are rad!
@tyrannosaurusriffs yeah dude the Weber Silver Wolf is a hidden gem imo. I've got two pairs in two 412s mixed with other speakers. I've tried a good amount of speakers over time and they're one of my favorites.
@@david-no I've added it to my list. Hopefully I can snag that and a couple others I've been wanting this summer. I wish I had more time to do more than 1 video a week so I could get to it faster.
@tyrannosaurusriffs I just bought the Orange supercrush 100 and a nice 2x12 so this video helped me a lot with what to buy. I prefer that warmer sound. Best of luck with making your own as well.
@@jordiejames3552 these are my favorite comments to read. I’m glad it helped you find what you wanted! Congrats on that setup! Need to get the Super Crush on here as well.
I really need to get the Governor. I wonder that myself and I've had a few people mention that! Hell, I just need all the Eminence speakers to try out!
WoW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great DEMO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You can individually hear each speaker and know the BLENDING of the 2 is PERFECT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DV-77 vs Celestion Cream ALNICO 90 watt ???????????????
The swamp thang has a rounder bottom end it seems like. It responds well but isn't as tight sounding as the dv77. The dv77 sounds fuller in the upper ranges as well, meatier sounding. Might have to ditch my swamp thang for this.
While I love the Swamp Thang, the 77 remains my favorite. Testing speakers is super fun. I hope to find one one day to beat out the 77! All subjective of course.
I do and I'm definitely not always the greatest. When making a video I'm trying to keep my timing on while making sure all cameras and audio are still going and not missing anything.
@@tyrannosaurusriffs Alright. Might be a stress (due to recording) thing. I recommend tapping your foot or moving your body to keep time when you play. It will help a ton with the timing consistency.
@@tyrannosaurusriffs Hehe ;) - The more you record the less you're gonna be stressed about it :) - have you tried practicing in a casual way... like while watching movies/videos/etc ? It helps a ton with staying relaxed when you play, because it forces you to stop focussing that much on the playing, and you go in "auto-pilot" mode.
@@djabthrash yep! My biggest challenge is controlling my emotions when things are going wrong while recording. After a few mess ups I just get worse and worse. I get to in my head and become my own worst enemy.

I sure do love the 77 but the Swamp Thang is definitely rad. It's super unique, in my opinion. That's awesome that it worked well for your gig!

Really good demo, would love to hear the blended sound out of a mix. Keep up the good work :)
Thank you! I have another speaker demo in a couple weeks! I’ll make sure I put out the blended mix!
Both sound good, i usually dont like the sizzle but the swamps has a charm to it.
They do, such a unique sound to them! Nice to have something different.

@@david-no thank you! Have a great day!
When you do these A/B comparisons, i recommend you don't only do AB but ABAB.
The B to A is as important as the A to B.
My 2 cents
I make "The Face" with the swamp thing. You gotta go with that Thang mane.
@@jordiejames3552 haha I love this! It’s such a good speaker. Hopefully start making my own IRs and get some more Eminence in soon.

Definitely the blended mix at the end. I may go for the swamp thang to go with my DV-77.
If you do let me know! I enjoyed blending these two. Both are rad speakers!
I use the DV77 and Swamp Thangs in an X pattern. They sound crushing amazing together!! I put them in a Randall XL cab.
@@marcushallenbeck1264that’s awesome! You don’t see that Randall cab around to often! I bet it sounds massive!
@@marcushallenbeck1264 I bet!. I only have a 2x4. It's all I need at the moment.
To my ear, the Swamp Thang riffs sounded like the lo-fi intro to a song before things clear up with the meat of the song.
I like that analysis. I can totally hear where you’re coming from with that! Maybe I’ll do that one day for a full song….
Swamp Thang is going to pop out in live music, more so than the 77.
@@asnark7115 most likely! And….most people don’t think about speakers so they wouldn’t know where that tone came from!
Have you ever tried the MK1 Rockerverbs homie? Just curious!
I have not. I would love to get a 1, 2 and 3 in for one video comparison. That would be fun.
Now I'm wondering if the DV-77 pairs well with the Governor speaker like the Swamp Thang does…

DV77 sounds better in my opinion recently got it. Honestly my favorite is the K100 for the low end
I still need that K100. I’m very interested in trying that one
DV77 for the win imo

Cheap and super reliable!

Dv77 is better for what I like, Swamper sounds good just a little dated. Dv77 sounds so good.
The 77 is probably still my favorite that I've tried!
You get great tones but I've noticed your timing was very off...
Do you practice to a metronome ?
