- I show how to remove permanent marker quickly and easily from just about any smooth surface .. I made this video for a 1st-grade teacher I know who was in a bad situation, at least she thought.
I posted this video here because I couldn't find one video on RUclips that got straight to the point and used something that actually works every single time and doesn't damage the surface below.
I've seen people use erasers, baking soda, really harsh chemical cleaners which damage the surface, but isopropyl alcohol is available everywhere very easily and figured it can help a lot of people because I myself have also been in the situation where I use a permanent marker and decide at a later time I want to erase it.

let me know in the comments below if it works for you or not? I haven't tried it with 70% isopropyl alcohol, I've only tried it with 91%.
Found this out cleaning knife edges after coating them in Sharpie for sharpening. I use 99% isopropyl from the drug store. Works 10 times as fast as 70%. Sucks the oil of the skin on your fingers leaving it white! Glove up if you're soaking something up with a lot. 👍
Desolveit.. (desolve-it).. every bit as effective without harming skin.. BUT.. things like epoxies.. solvents are a serious NO NO.. they allow seriously bad chemicals in epoxies to absorb into your skin & blood stream & seriously bad allergic reactions can quickly develop
Please be mindful isopropanol will desolve some other chemicals as well. For instance painted* sheetmetal will turn dull or even remove the paint.
*obviously there are different ways to paint metals; I noticed it on powder coated sheetmetal.
for sure - also I've seen it turn certain plastics into perma-fog.
You could use a LOT less alcohol if you just pour some alcohol on the rag then wipe the ink with the moistened rag.
Maybe so but that's not how I like to do it, I want to make sure I have maximum coverage and soakability...lol

For the dry erase board problem, you can write over the permanent marker with a dry erase marker, then erase it.

Also works on plastics, plastic bags, etc..
You can actually also just use a Dry erase marker, color over the permanent marker and it'll wipe off.

This works great on delicate surfaces. I typically just use laquer thinner for everything else. It is always around, IPA may not be.
Does it work on volleyball?

Interesting. I’ve always used acetone. Store grade Fingernail polish remover always seems to work.
I have tried acetone, it works, but it doesn't work on every type of permanent marker, there are some that are resistant to acetone... But from what I found 91% or stronger alcohol works on everything.
Also, acetone tends to dissolve a lot of plastics, alcohol won't.

I use the gritty toothpaste and it works like magic! I use it on Lego and other plastics all the time and it doesn’t full or damage it.
