They all worked well, but the dry eraser (to me) was clearly the winner. Very easy, no chance of really soaking into the box, and removed the maker easily. Excellent video.
Once again Steve coming through with videos and info that help ALL resellers! I owe a lot of my new reselling success to you bro! Thanks again for all the great content and info!
Pick & Roll thanks man! There’s a lot of resellers on RUclips that are entertaining, but you offer the most legit help for us newbies trying to learn. I’ve saved a lot watching you, starting way back when you mentioned the free UPS labels! PS-definitely gonna try the dry erase tip!
THANKS Steve! Great, scientific, helpful video! Perfect! The Sharpie markers are alcohol based so it would make sense that alcohol would remove it with a little elbow grease.
I had large plastic storage bins with sharpie words written and I first tied the alcohol, not much effect at all, then lighter fluid, same, nothing much...I tried the eraser and that did work, but left smudges, so then I tried the WD40, some immediate removal, but still not fast, as soon as I added a bit of Baking Soda to the WD 40, it came off fast! It did scratch the plastic surface somewhat as you could see it on an angle. Yet, the WD40 and Baking Soda was the winner for me! Yes, you have a good video, thanks!
hey can you try the test on the inside label of the clothes ? It's much harder to remove on the clothes tags than boxes. Goodwill will sometimes write on the tags of their boutique items which is annoying.
My Goodwill writes on everything, including ALL clothes. I know, I hate it!! I have found best way is just spray with Oxy clean, then wash. I have tried by dabbing/but makes a smear, washing "usually" is better.
Thanks for this. I finally found my issue of SPORT magazine from the 1950's that has a big article about Willie Mays coming to the giants. Great images. But on the cover on the upper right is a marker saying 1.00. Naturally I want to be careful with this old magazine cover. Plus that's been on the mag for decades. (I've owned it 20 years) I guess I'll be experimenting first on other no glossy magazine covers...I also have lens wipes, from Zeiss, normally used for eyeglasses that I bought but my camera lenses. They may work too.
Hmm.. I think the "dry erase" works via the ole hairdressers saying that " Color removers color", when hair dye gets on the skin..thnx for the vid, i needed it.
I have a plastic covered VCR tape case with a name written in permanent marker. I think the tape's case is kind of valuable and don't wish to hurt it in anyway. I think this video is giving me courage, but maybe I'll try on a not so valuable case first. Thank you, so much. Great scientific method, too!

Do you think removing black sharpie permanent marker off a Wilson evolution leather composite basketball would work with rubbing alcohol? Note: The sharpie has been on there for several months.
The shiny gloss coating on that box was a major factor here.... marker would penetrate most other surfaces. They all work like that on glass too. But on wood. Paper or even my counter top.. the nail polish remover did best... but not great..... try some Walmart acetone
yes for sure. Targeted to resellers, and majority of product boxes are glossy. Raw cardboard, wood, etc are porous and it gets absorbed- tough to get fully off/out. thanks
This was soooo helpful! I purchased a deck of cards from the Thrift with marker all over them. The alcohol became a bit frustrating with little marks being left. Hehe, Now, the Dry Erase Pen. Just happen to have a couple in the desk. Thanks so much and Cheers:)
Help: I have a waxpack (Dark Shadows TV series Cards) with a dedication on one side - 'To Jill' - I got this about 12 years ago. I wonder if anything will work - WD-40 did not work
HG you can also put oil and it will come off, or take another sticker and with the sticky part of the sticker tap the area that has the leftover sticker tap fast and gradually it will go away, but I have to admit the second tip will take a while, but it works very well and you’ll be avoiding using oil
is the ink on the label, or get it get on the silver side? Try the erasable marker on the label. If on silver readable side, im not sure cause you dont want to damage that side
What a great video. If you are ever looking for another test, I would like to see at the bottom of shoes. Ugh! I hate that. I have one of everything you demonstrated...including the dry erase marker...so I should be set the next time I have something to remove. Thanks!
Hello everyone this is the magic trick to getting sharpie out of bed sheets 1. Sponge the stain with rubbing alcohol until it completely moist 2. Dab the stain with a wad of clean damp paper towels the color of the stain should be transferring to the paper towels keep repeating until the stain is gone 3. If the stain is not gone use denatured alcohol instead of rubbing alcohol apply the denatured alcohol with cotton swabs for precise application 4. Blot the stain with damp paper towels again ghe stain should be transferring to the paper towels 5. Dip a cotton ball in nail polish remover apply to the stain this should help remove the rest of the stain 6. Soak the nail polish remover with damp paper towels and launder the bed sheets as normal hope was helpful let me know if this was helpful
Thank You for posting this video. It will be very helpful to me in removing Sharpie names that I wrote on the plastic cases , of the flash drives I have. Which I hope I can re-label again afterwards.
So... someone drew all over my cordless drill without me knowing. Also, they used a paint marker instead of a sharpie. Do you think this works with plastic as well?
This is great but it seems like it'd be much quicker using some paper towel or cotton balls. The dry erase trick was pretty cool, but I think the ingredient doing the work in that pen might also be isopropyl alcohol, or the like
If I only showed dry erase, since the others are known as decent options I would get lots of messages asking,"what about polish remover"... "what about wd40".. etc etc.. If I compare and show all, it saves all that. Things you, who Doesn't make videos, doesn't think about. But thanks.

Which one of these products that would remove a sharpie from a color vinyl case without damaging the vinyl?. Thanks.
Tough to say, cheap and older vinyl I d be nervous. I dont want to tell you then it get ruined, but I would try a little hand sanitizer then wipe off.
@@PickRoll Its a CD case 1990's in Orange color vinyl some wrote a name on the side..
@@sting64az Id try a tiny bit of hand sanitizer but if that material is pourus, the ink has soaked in and might be tough to remove
BUT will they work on fabric items, like jackets, lunch bags, etc? the paper on your box is smooth and shinny so much easier to clean up
Right, and I believe I say that in the video. Materials that absorb the ink are different. This was about item packages. For clothing I use oxy clean,
Can I use the whiskey to remove on metal?
Dont know

I would soak it for few hours, use dawn dish detergent.

The writing is on the wax wrapper?.. Not sure, if it is absorbed into wax it wont come of. I use alcohol mostly.
What about a item that has a porous bottom they are using a permanent marker to mark on an antique pottery bot bottom
Hard to say, if its absorbed its tough to get off.
Thank you so much im just getting into reselling and my dufflebag has a bunch of sharpie on it.
knew i could count on youtube
Goodluck.
Also you can mark over the permanent marker with whiteboard marker and use alcohol to wipe off....I'm a teacher done it many times
Yes thats the dry erase markers, its in his video.
That was actually extremely helpful. That dry erase method was crazy. Would you mind sharing your methods for removing stickers?
Thanks, yea dry erase works so easy. Stickers I actually lightly wet with the alcohol then scrap off,

What gets permanent marker off the bottom of shoes that have that brown gum rubber sole? 🙁
Try Goo Gone

Wonderful. I sharpied my whiteboard not knowing it's actually a permanent marker.
should come off a whiteboard easily with any of the options.
Instead of using slick cardboard can you do it on silicone. Nothing is working on a silicone ornament.
Silicone is like rubber an is usually porous meaning ink gets absorbed, tough to get out/off.

Thanks!, Yea, my GW writes on EVERYTHING!, even the clothes, shoes are tough because the ink kinda soaks into the rubber.
I haven’t found anything to get the black markings from goodwill on bottoms of shoes off did you 🙏
Great experiment! We really appreciate it 😃 Maybe you could do an experiment on getting sharpie off clothing tags 🏷
thanks, My goodwill does that, they write on everything including the clothes. Best bet is spray with oxy clean, then wash.
What about items that need dry cleaning? Would dry erase marker work?
I have a old hat with autograph hand I need to remove them what’s the best way to do it
To remove autograph I would soak in oxi clean bath overnight. Not guaranteed but worth a try

Thank you for testing this, I will be using the dry erase for now on.

no method worked for me for removing 1 month old permanent marker ink off of plastic electronic device- do you have any other recommendations?

Right because this was focused to reseller who buy items at thrift store that are marked. You could try hand santizer on vinyl, should come right off
My Husband & I enjoyed your test, Overall Great Tutorial! TFS
Thanks for watching!
My straw hat has sharpie on and couldn't remove the sharpie
straw is absorbant, the ink soaked in.

Thanks Matt
What can I use to write permanently on plexiglass?

What should i use to get sharpie off of the siding of my house?
I don't really know but if it vinyl I would think alcohol would work since its just on surface. If it porous and absorbed in then I don't know
I used to dry erase today. Worked beautifully. Thank you so much!!
Awesome! Glad it helped!
Do u think it will work on the midsole of some Jordan 4
@@static1539 I can never get it fully off the bottom of sneakers because the ink soaks into the rubber
Try it on plastic that is on the bottom of shoes because I tried the nail polisher remover and it didn't work that well on plastic.
bottom of shoes are usually rubber, rubber is absorbant so the ink cant just be wiped off.
Thanks for the tip man... polish remover worked for me....

Which works the best on dry wall ??
Depends on the wall paint, but I think it';; be tough, might have to just paint over mark if you have extra paint still.
WHERE CAN YOU BUY THE ERASER PENS?
Places like walgreens, target, walmart
I tried them all on some school plastic binders and none of them took off the markers!!!???
I find the erasable marker works best, but its tough if that plastic is porous and absorbs the ink
This also work on modern comic books???
Not sure, thats rather thin and also could remove the print as well.
I used Colgate toothpaste and a dry washcloth on car paint. It worked easily and almost effortlessly.
Thanks
