  • My Neumann KH120a speakers are both being repaired. When IK Multimedia offered to send over their new room correction solution I was forced to dig out my old Tannoy Reveals and get the old hifi amp out of my mum's garage to give it a spin.

    Been using ARC 3 in my mixing studio and I've found it superb for ironing out a few areas treatment wouldn't fix, and in natural mode the already good stereo imaging got even better. I'm really hoping IK offer a good crossgrade price on this!

    If you take the box out of the equation, the question is: Does ARC Studio sound any better than Sonarworks? Would be interesting with a comparison...

      ARC4 seems better than ARC and Sonarworks in my application, just been doing listening tests. It looks the same as ARC3 mostly but seems better.

      @@jrgrobertsthat would be considered confirmation bias that last bit

      I certainly don’t know. If we need room analysis software to show us the inaccuracies of our speakers and rooms, it seems unlikely that our perception would be good enough to identify which correction is most accurate. Isn’t that logical?

    Ah, Jon. You got one of THOSE speaking voices. I couldn't care less about the product. I am just here to relax, watch, listen. Cheers!

    I just got mine set up. The attraction for me is the hardware box - I had a home-grown in line digital filter before but it only had 8 filters, not enough. You do know that ARC4 has a KH120A emulation profile? 😉

      I did see that! Happily my actually 120s are back with me. I wonder if there’s an NAD/Tannoy Reveal setting…

    No doubt 20 year old speakers might have worn out components. Coved ceiling as well? You're braver than I. Very entertaining vid.

    Thank you for addressing the latency issue. Does the bypass button disable the digital circuitry and DAC on the box (true bypass)? Or does it merely disable the correction EQ?

    • @JonWrightMusicTV
      @JonWrightMusicTV  7 месяцев назад +1

      I believe so - the button operates a relay which clicks and I can’t imagine they’d bother with that if anything at all is left in-line. Manual says: ‘CORRECTION: This button enables or disables the audio processing. When CORRECTION is off, the unit is
      bypassed and the input signal is routed directly to the output.’

    If it allowed for applying a crossover (hpf) i'd buy one right now.

    • @JonWrightMusicTV
      @JonWrightMusicTV  5 месяцев назад

      Can I ask why you’d want that? I don’t immediately understand why you’d want to control only part of the spectrum

      @@JonWrightMusicTV it's useful when you have a (or several) subwoofers. It's easier to integrate. Mine has a low pass filter so i only need a high pass one in the source. Unfortunately, apart from home theater gear, not many other kit has one.

      Not comparable. This is an in-line analogue box (with digital insides) that will work with any 2:1 monitoring or console or DAW or.... you get the idea.

    I really like the idea of having a box rather than software, might invest in this in the future

      Same. The hardware box is a dealbreaker for me really
