It's honestly really interesting toe because when Steph asks for a blue shirt not a pink one in the actual episode she gets told no. It's this weird like half accepting thing. Like we'll include a NB character in the song to seem "hip with the kids" (obviously not that being NB is a trend, which I say as an NB, just that it's often seen as that) but the second that someone actually tries to step outside of the gender binary they're shut down. The camp has boy shirts and girl shirts to put you in the boy or girl cabin but sure we'll humour you and call you by your preferred pronouns. It's kind of a brutal critique of half measures in inclusion at least to me

She genuinely doesn't even consider that the other kid likes her even when he is pretty clear about it. She seems like a very straight A student and goodie two shoes, so I don't think it's likely she would not understand otherwise. Also, the axe man did not see anything in her. Idk why but this whole story is my all time favourite Hatchetfeild thing to date.
It has 4 of my fav Starkids in prominent roles, 2 amazing songs, one of my fav love stories ever (with Pete and Steph) and joke that legit made me laugh out loud as well as moments that made me roll my eyes (in a good way).

@@avajones6835 i honestly kind of enjoyed Nick's performance as Pete, it would have been interesting to see how Robert might have done it but I think Nick just captures the ... idk awkwardness of Pete so well.
Like the scene in the showers when he asks Steph if she's sure, I find it such a heart felt moment, him wanting her not have to go through more rumours, I just find it really wholesome and kind of him.
And i realised while writing this, by him doing that he technically saved their lives because if he hadn't have been considerate like that and asked they would have ended up in the same stall together and the Jerrys wouldn't have made it to stop them in time.
So moral of the story, be considerate guys :)
@@avajones6835 You can see on Robert's wiki page why he wasn't in the episode; Starkid decided to not have him in Nightmare Time 2, as he'd recently (at the time) admitted to making inappropriate remarks and harassing a colleague (I'm assuming it was another member, I'm not quite sure if they disclosed it). It sucks because he's such an amazing actor, dancer and singer and I'm in love with all his characters

As much as I love LGBTQ representation, and as much as Starkid is good at representation especially with Ziggy, I don’t think this is intentional, because the camp literally makes the campers wear pink for girls and blue for boys so I don’t think they are progressive enough to realise the harm in gender norms let alone the fact that there are more than two genders, but cool idea though.
I've never been remotely Christian so I have no real cultural context for this other than "some people in America [also American, just poor] go to summer camp", but I laughed way too hard at this song. Like slumped over on my desk laughing.
