I do too with now knowing the black people population in the state. The government is controlled and run by Republicans. The only thing that comes to my mind gerrymandering. @@ivanvillamil2764 Yes, 40% should determine every election. I don't believe there's that much apathy among black voters in one of the birthplaces of the civil rights. People died there for the vote. In fact, I knew Biden had won Michigan just assessing the turnout from talking to my bla k cousins in Detroit. If they all go, the Democrat wins. And recall Jesse Jackson actually won the Democratic Primary in Michigan in 1980 largely on the enthusiasm of the black vote. Again, just 13.4% of the total population. I’m in Missouri. It’s difficult to tell just how many Dems and republicans r in the my state bc we don’t have to declare a party when registered. However, our 2020 vote for Trump was around 55% and Biden around 40%, yet we r dominated by the Republican Party bc they cram tons of Dems in just 2 districts and then divide small Dem towns by putting them in rural red counties to essentially dilute those Dem votes. The GOP drew 6 safe republican districts, 2 safe Dem seats, and 1 “competitive” district which is made up of wealthy, usually republican voters w/a smaller number of less affluent Dem voters. The Republican candidate always win. This is in a near 50/50 state, yet u’d never know that. I think we need to stop the redistribution of federal $’s from the blue states to the red states. Poor performing red states need to feel the pain of the Republican leadership is doing to their state. Mississippi and AL being the worst at taking the most federal $’s compared to what they pay in for federal taxes. I don’t know Mississippi’s situation all that well but in MO, it’s St. Louis and Kansas City which fund much of the rural counties in MO, yet we have little Dem representation bc the GOP has changed the election laws to work better and better for them while the issues in the cities aren’t being addressed, like gun violence which has caused many to leave the cities and made it very difficult to get outside investment. What if the cities or parts of the state push for independence, to become a new state? In my state, St. Louis and Kansas City have no use for the rural counties in MO. Those rural counties do nothing to help the cities and actually harm the cities. Perhaps some could join in w/neighboring cities in other states which declare their independence, like Kansas City, mo joking Kansas City, KS or STL joining in w/IL counties just over the bridge. Then the rural counties will see just how horrible their GOP policies r and lose 1/2 the money of the cities w/fund them. The cities could then be their own states and make up their own policies. The cities would gain 2 more blue senators and most all of our reps in congress would be blue to represent our interests.

A promising young woman to see. I'd like to see more programs that aid people with voter registration and whatever is required to help people do that, which most often involves helping them get the required proofs of identification.
When Mississippi passed voter ID, they offered to go to anyone's home that couldn't get an ID any other way. Out of three million people, they had less than 20 that took the state up on the offer. Voter ID's don't stop anyone from voting.
I think this time the black folks are gonna make it happen in Mississippi. Especially if the young can be entrepreneurial make some good money and turn that state around because waiting for the federal government has never panned out.
Also... I'm not doubting what they're saying, but HOW do the "powers that be" suppress the Black vote. Again, I believe Tiffany and panel, I just want to know the how, so if I say, in a discussion, MS has egregious rules around voting, I could have an answer. And, have a starting point to find out more. Just looking at the rules, often they're in "legalese", and not assessable the lay-person.
They are whining about showing ID to vote. When Mississippi passed that law they offered an in home service for anyone that couldn't get an ID whether they wanted to use it to vote or not. Out of three million people less than 20 needed someone from the state to go to their house to print an ID. Blacks just don't vote because they don't want to. Other than showing ID the only voting laws are you have to be 18 and not a felon.
I recommend looking this up with a more reliable source than RUclips. But one thing to think about is that IDs, travelling to vote, and getting notaries to sign your absentee ballot, are not easy for everyone. Some privileged people have a hard time understanding this, but others understand it very well and use it to prevent black people from voting. There's documentation about how Republicans studied which laws they could pass to make it harder for black people to vote.
@@Sarcasticron I do realize "... that IDs, travelling to vote, and getting notaries to sign your absentee ballot..." is difficult. Tate Reeves runs the state; what do you expect?
He looks like an overgrown hall monitor. Not sure if he hit puberty yet.
Nice good ole boy Christian name
YEP YEP. WICKED🥶
This state is an example of poor leadership by all of those elected. Talk about oppression. The Youth of Mississippi needs to make the changes necessary in the elected officials.
Don't give up. You have to keep fighting for the rights of people in minorities, and everyone's civil rights.
Sounds to me like African Americans in Mississippi need to get out and vote in record turn outs.
Ok racist
Next year they're going to name all the schools in Mississippi after Jim Crow.
So why are RedStates the poorest states in the country? 🤔
Very low educational standards.
Both major political parties are nothing but thieves, and want to steal from us. One side is smart thieves, the other side is stupid thieves.
The stupid thieves want people to be as poor and as miserable as possible, and seem to be content with the few crumbs they can glean from as many poor people as possible.
The smart thieves allow us sheep to become as fat and happy as possible, because, the more we have, _the more we have to "steal."_ AND, the more content we are, _the more we're willing to let them "steal!"_

That state has been an embarrassment since the start. I'm not sure why we finance it. Why do we?
There needs to be a huge motivation for forward thinking people to vote in all possible election and vote out those people wanting to maintain the status quo!
Time to give M some W's.
"Mississippi currently ranks 50th among states in annual rankings of internet coverage, speed and availability."
Luckily, in the last couple of years, most of the schools, libraries, and government offices were able to get high speed (gigabit) internet. It's slowly being made available to businesses and private citizens too, but at a higher cost than regular internet, obviously, and because of the price difference it's yet another class barrier.
Well-spoken young lady!👏👏
If I'm a young black man growing up in MS .As soon as I get to 17 , I'll be looking to "immigrate" to another state.
Indeed. I am as White as they come & wouldn't even want to pass through that White Supremacists' sink hole in a locked car.
It is time for people to admit that you cannot be racist and christian at the same time.
Both are requirements to join
Do a special episode on the gulf states. These are thought of as “poor states”, but they are states with bustling industries and ports that being in billions of dollars every year. There is a massive wealth and education gap in these states- these are people who vote against their own best interest.
I think racism and ignorance are the reason any person would vote against their own interest.
Go Maisie! Great work.
I had no idea that MS was still having MAJOR racial inequities. You would think, after all that has happened in that state, there would be dramatic change for the better. I pray 🙏 for MS. 😢
I just want you say, you go girl. We need more young people like you. Keep up the good work 👏 🙌 👍

We, I need you to be on MSNBC more...maybe all day Sunday, 😂if you can't during the week...something, anything....you have great content, always do. 🥰 Couple hours one morning a week, is not enough.
We need to get Black children educated in Mississippi. Start with the schools in Black neighborhoods.
Good luck with that. They would rather run around shooting one another daily that go to school or learn.
@Denise with white teachers they wont learn much of nothing
Not so long ago, MS had a Senator, by the name of Theodore Bilbo. He earned his reputation as the meanest man in America. Reading about him told me so much, everything I needed to know about the state, and why I would avoid it whenever possible, which I've done successfully since 2001, when I last drove through the state.
Blessed to see this!
Get rid of the filibuster.
America is such a disgrace!
One thing that is a very big conundrum for me is that why black people vote for a republican candidate?
Because the democrats aren't going to do anything for them. The last election has multiple black republicans running for office.
I used to be white. Don't call me that anymore. I stand with everyone else.
With an average life expectancy of around 74.5 in Mississippi, it's the lowest in the Union. There's nothing uplifting or positive about MS, in my opinion. When I visited Memphis, TN, it wasn't a lot better.
Give the Power to The People and you shall receive gifts in colour ❤️

If the people don't care then this is what you get not everyone in that state votes just saying I have people in ms and they do not vote even after me telling them daily yall need to vote vote vote its so many black individuals in ms why is it a republican state.
Have you ever had a single one of them tell you they couldn't get an ID to vote?
Great segment. I have always doubted the vote totals.
It like this in every Red state. They jerrymand maps lie about polls inflate and deflate interest in states that have been fighting to remove the white dinosaurs and elect actually minorities to power in these states. That is the only way to insure that their concerns are listened to and moved on.
I do too with now knowing the black people population in the state. The government is controlled and run by Republicans. The only thing that comes to my mind gerrymandering. Because that number of people if they voted it would be divided the state legislators chamber. In Mississippi you have to have some type of gun for your safety. I know a lot of people that are Trump’s followers and if you try to have a discussion with them they repeat the same rhetoric they heard in rallies or Fox.
@@ivanvillamil2764 Yes, 40% should determine every election. I don't believe there's that much apathy among black voters in one of the birthplaces of the civil rights. People died there for the vote. Compare Mississippi to Michigan and Minnesota, for examples. In Michigan, blacks are only 13.5 percent. In Minnesota, about 7%. In both states, the black vote determines and tips elections. Add to that a large portion of the people in Detroit have Mississppi roots. Same people. Something wrong inbMississippi.
@@Raven-ug8uw I get it. Now I question the elections here and what turn out to voting here. Because the republicans dominates all the time. Is it they’re not registered to vote?
Are they not interested to vote? Maybe they gerrymandered the districts to mixed and them winning.
@@ivanvillamil2764 U know Trump only projects his own behavior. So there would be precedent.
It's strange that the assumption is Mississippi being the problem LOL I believe one of Emmett till's murderers is still alive and living comfortably over in North Carolina so what's the difference.. every state in this country has the same problem especially when it comes to black people
Who the heck would live in MS? :/

Mississippi...you have the power to change this racist scourge. FILE CLASS ACTION LAWSUITS TO FIGHT VOTER SUPPRESSION. STAY SAFE. STAY FOCUSED. STAY MAD. VOTE BLUE, folks. JUST VOTE BLUE.
What suppression? Anyone with an ID that's 18 and not a felon can vote. When Mississippi passed voter ID they offered to go to anyone's home that couldn't get an ID any other way. Of three million people less than 20 needed that service. Blacks don't vote because they don't want to.
First of all Black people in Mississippi needs representation. We have taxation without representation and I can't figure out how that is legal in America
You've has a black Congressman for 29 years. name one thing he's done for you.
My home state... 😒 The suppression is depressing. Easier to buy a home there, but medical care may mean you won't live long to enjoy it.
How is Mississippi allowed to live like this without anyone stepping in. This is why they are last in everything and have been forever. If you are resident of Mississippi how are you okay with this

Very good clip! One problem that I had with this clip is, several issues they were talking about are not as "common knowledge" as they think. I would have liked it if when they said 'as we all know' they would have given a 1 or 2 sentence explanation of the issue. Bcuz we don't 'all know'.
But on the whole, very good stuff/info!

Why can't the federal government do something to lift voter suppression in states in the United States? What is preventing the federal government from supporting voter rights?
I don't understand why my brothers and sisters would want to stay in Mississippi? With all the hate there i would never go to Mississippi ever again or i would go to jail. The way the uncivilized devils treat my brothers and sisters hurt my heart
Call up Phil Ochs and have him update his ode "Here's to the State of Mississippi."

Why is MSNBC the only network that has audio problems during these great programs and primetime? Lost connections, background noises of sniffling, crashing noise from stage hands dropping things? A network that has the best commentators but has the worst technical people? I don't pay for cable as I don't want those extra channels but I pay $35/month for one channel: MSNBC.

They choose to be backwards. It's a shame.
Surely these states must be able to tell you/ have a good idea who’s registered to vote.. n who’s not..,
State governments need to go out targeting these people, enable them to/ get them registered.. if the want to…
In a true democracy… everyone has the right to vote, except may prisoners while they’re serving time
On the federal level for Mississippi there are black representatives
A promising young woman to see. I'd like to see more programs that aid people with voter registration and whatever is required to help people do that, which most often involves helping them get the required proofs of identification.
When Mississippi passed voter ID, they offered to go to anyone's home that couldn't get an ID any other way. Out of three million people, they had less than 20 that took the state up on the offer. Voter ID's don't stop anyone from voting.

I was on the road a lot during the 80s and therefore did not get to vote in some elections for these reasons.
I also realize the yt is not the most reliable of places for technical info. Same for Wiki-Wacky. But I wouldn't know where to start. Also, I wasn't (and am not) in the mood for a deep dive. And, as I said: "Just looking at the rules, often they're in "legalese", and not assessable the lay-person."
