    You should do a video on why Lars Ulrich was actually a good drummer in the late 80s/early 90s. He is a total punching bag for what he is now but people who don't really know drums or just like to pile on don't give him enough credit/slack. He has now become the most underrated drummer in metal.

    • @MKDumas1981
      @MKDumas1981 4 года назад +1

      @Some Peanuts: Singing it to yourself also helps. "Dun" is the eighth note, and "digga" is the two sixteenth notes.
      "Disposable Heroes", for example, would be "dun digga dun dun dun dun digga digga"
      Mike's machine-gun gallop (aka reverse gallop) would be "digga dun digga dun digga dun digga dun".
      The breakdown to "One" would be "digga digga digga dun" (or "diggadig gadigga dun").

    • @kkarx
      @kkarx 4 года назад

      It is pretty hard to play. I found out one thing that helps. I noticed that I made little pauses with my hand between the beats because I somewhat counted the notes and played them in groups of the beat. So I played 3 notes, then came little pause and then I played the other 2 notes and so on. You can imagine 3 notes and sing them at that tempo but your brain cant process the rest of the notes that fast. So when you struggle to sing something in a tempo you need to rely on your muscle memory. Those riffs is faster than your brain can count so you really need to concentrate on your hand movement. It is the only way.

A good way to check how good you are at this (especially at this) is to double track a 10 second gallop against the metronom and then listen back if the two tracks together are consistent. In the Barracuda version should you skip the string on the unplayed second hit? It's "1 (silent e) and a." It seems like on the unplayed "e" it would be most efficient to skip that upstroke.

    In music theory classes, we called them grasshoppers or hopalongs, depending on whether they start woth the eighth note or the two sixteenth notes.

    Old Iced Earth uses a lot of those galloping riffs at very high speeds. Check out Pure Evil for example, or Dante's Inferno, which also lasts 16 minutes. I believe your way of building speed is what makes most sense as jumping in those songs right away will just bring discouragement and sloppy playing unless you're blessed with a natural talent. Keep up the great videos coming!

    Any galloping fan will love *all* of these, and yes I took the time to list them all because I LOVE that style and sound and want to share with all of you:
    Tremonti - Brains, From the Sky, A Lot Like Sin, The Day When Legions Burned (trickyyyy+fast), Radical Change, Flying Monkeys, Arm Yourself, Tie the Noose, You Waste Your Time, So Youre Afraid, Giving Up (catchiest metal riff *ever* in the middle of the song), All I Was, My Last Mistake, Once Dead, Betray Me, Rising Storm,
    Alter Bridge - Forever Falling, Bleed it Dry (WOW!!), Crows on a Wire, Isolation, The Other Side, The Uninvited (sorta Tool-esque)
    Five Finger Death Punch - American Capitalist, Bulletproof, Burn it Down, Hard to See, My Own Hell, Wash It All Away
    Limp Bizkit - The Propaganda
    Slipknot - Devil in I

      Dude, how could you not find Iced Earth? You're about the get a heart attack!
      Jon Schaffer is the undisputed master of gallops. He's one of the best rhythm guitaris in metal.
      I've never seen anyone play gallops faster, tighter and longer than Schaffer. He's a rhythm beast with impeccable technique.
      If you love gallop, you'll love Iced Earth. They have gallops in literally every single song.
      Check out the "Alive in Athens" versions of:
      Dante's Inferno
      Travel In Stygian
      When The Night Falls
      Stormrider
      Cast In Stone (consists literally only of gallops)
      The path I Choose
      Pure Evil
      The Coming Curse
      Birth Of The Wicked
