Kendrick is rapping over 'A Tale of 2 Citez' by J Cole and J Cole is rapping over 'Alright' by Kendrick. These two songs came out on black friday 2015, when hype for a collab album between k.dot and J cole was at its highest. J. cole never did release anything that February.
Well everyone just spammed Black Friday, barely anyone mentioned Alright and TO2C, so they didn't know and just reacted to Black Friday. I blame the viewers lol.
Bro Bourchier because people think Black Friday is the best thing ever, when it's just good. Even as a Kendrick and J.Cole fan this was just lyrical gymnastics and they have better songs to showcase that.
The brilliance of this starts in the Album art (the picture). 1. J. COLE is much taller than Kendrick, so Cole stands and Kendrick sits. 2.Then kendrick's Name is put higher and Cole's name sits. 3.then in the background they're leveled up centrally and do not face each other (challenge) The goal being to make them look as equal as possible! Props to whoever did it
@Christian way back when I first heard this I thought the same thing but the more you listen to it I think Coles verse really killed just in a different way, but I do still think Kendricks verse was superior.
What I like about this channel is that the n-word doesn't make them angry. They just joke it off and be like "well, we can't sing along to this song" and it's funny. They aren't trying to say the n-word or are bothered by the fact that people would get upset if they said it. They just brush it off and talk about the rest of the songs content. I'm a new subscriber because of that! Thank you. And you guys react to my favorite songs!!!
Really glad to see you guys finally getting some merch to make some money! You're spending tons of time making these videos and surely not making much income from RUclips due to copyright laws. Nice to see Black Friday as well!
It probably helps to explain what that means. I gather from how they spoke about it, they may think they produced the beats for each other. So if you guys are reading this, they rapped over each other's radio hit singles with their own freeform/freestyled raps. Check out 'J Cole - Tale of 2 Cities' and 'Kendrick Lamar - Alright' for reference.
You have to listen to the original songs! Listen to Alright by Kendrick , which is the beat that Cole rapped over, and listen to Tale of 2 Cities by Cole, which is the beat Kendrick rapped over. Also listen to Forbidden Fruit by J.Cole ft. Kendrick, one of their few songs together.
Kendrick is rapping over A Tale Of 2 Cities which is a J cole song from his album 2014 Forest hill drives and J cole rapped over a kendrick song from his album To Pimp a Butterfly called Alright
Can you guys like this to help them em out. Don't use RUclips videos for lyrics, everyone uses the website Genius which has all rap lyrics, you can just play the song in the background. Loved the video :)
Kendrick is rapping over the J Cole song "A Tale of Two Citiez" beat and J Cole raps over Kendrick's song "Alright" beat. You should react to both of those!
I don't know why people would recommend this and not recommend the originals first so they have an understanding coming into this. Kendrick rapping on j cole beat Tale of 2 cities. Cole rapping on Kendrick beat Alright
Thank you guys. I've been fortunate to see you two from the start. You two are fantastic to say the least and have really impacted my perspective on music. So thank you!
waited for this video to promote some merch. nice move honestly haha. hope you guys keep growing at a mad rate. i've been watching since your gang related reaction and it's just beeen crazy to see how much you've blown up.
I know someone already said it, but Black Friday was them rapping over each others biggest (debatably) songs of their previous albums at the time. The J Cole song is called "A Tale of Two Cities" and the Kendrick song is called "Alright". Both great songs! Thanks for the reaction and your perspective fellas! All the best.
My favorite line is when J. Cole he said he's getting Cream like an old Laker. KAREEM Abdul Jabbar is one of the best basketball players of all time and played for the Lakers in the 80's just really heavy word play with those homophones
The premise of the Black Friday tracks is they rap over eachothers beats. Just noticed that you guys didn’t realise that. Other then that love your guys reactions 💪🏼🔥
genuinely some of the best content on youtube. thank you for truly trying to appreciate everything you’ve played, that’s what is necessary to bring us all together
Y’all mentioned not being able to catch everything in some rap songs, neither do I on the first go around, and that’s what I love about good hip hop. I have songs in my library I’ve been listening to for years and I still hear something “new” every now and then lol a gift that keeps giving.
The beat that Kendrick was rapping to was originally from a JCole song called A Tale of 2 Citiez, and the beat that JCole was rapping to was originally from a Kendrick song called Alright. The collaboration was released on November 27, 2015 which was also Black Friday here in the U.S. Before the song was released there was a rumor going around that Kendrick and JCole were going to release a collab album, and I guess this was there way of acknowledging the rumor
Since you didn't recognize the beat from Kendrick's song "Alright", you should definitely react to that. And watch the video, too. It's probably my favorite of Kendrick's music videos.
To full understand the greatness of this you have to understand *why* people praise this so much. So awesome to see the 2 best lyricists rap over each other’s beats. Wish they would’ve known this before the reaction
What’s impressive about these two songs was nothing was put on paper they turned the beat on what ever happened happened and the word play for it to be a freestyle was simply amazing
J Cole: Kenny loftin, killers, tears for odb, 4 your eyez only, 3 wishes, young simba, revenge of the dreamer, window pain, and let nas down. All of these songs are amazing story telling. Let Nas down is a song he made in reference to hearing about Nas (his idol) disliking one of his (at the time) recent projects. Nas actually came back with a response to the same beat called Made Nas proud.
Just to clarify they flipped beats off of each other's album Tale Of 2 Citiez - J. Cole (Album: 2014 Forest Hills Drive) Alright - Kendrick Lamar (Album - TPAB) And it is called Black Friday because that is essentially a shopping holiday in America where items are heavily discounted and sometimes sold tax free. It is the day after Thanksgiving.
lambo driftz really? Nice I wasn't aware that. They seemed not to know about it but I just assumed they are from the UK lol Thank you for that information. I wonder what other countries utilize Black Friday?
Slightly long comment but bear with me, and bump this so the boys see it - as with most of your videos, as soon as I saw this song, I clicked. But at the same time I couldn't help be ever so slightly disappointed coz I know that you guys haven't heard the original songs - J. Cole - A Tale of 2 Citiez and Kendrick Lamar - Alright. Those are both amazing songs that you should react to btw. The beats used in Black Friday come from the other rapper's original song, so Kendrick raps over the beat from A Tale of 2 Citiez and Cole raps over the beat from Alright. The reason why this song bangs so hard for me personally is because having heard those 2 songs individually a million times each, I got so used to hearing the respective rappers come in hard, as they do. So if you imagine seeing this drop on Black Friday, a collab you've been waiting years for, hearing the beat from A Tale of 2 Citiez drop and then expecting Cole because that's what I was used to, then hearing Kendrick come in hard like he did and then absolutely murder the beat, it was a god dam treat for me, and then even better when Cole murdered Alright. It's something that one of you said in one of your previous videos (i think the one where you reacted to Joyner's Mask Off remix), where you were impressed by the way that hip hop does this thing where different rappers rap on the same beats and it can sound completely different depending on how that rapper goes about it, like holy shit I would never have thought of that flow for that beat. So hearing Kendrick and Cole go 2 completely different ways to the other on the other person's original beat was crazy, all the more insane because it came outta nowhere at the time. Anyway, that's just my two cents, now go listen to Alright and A Tale of 2 Citiez, you won't regret it. And maybe listen to black friday after that and it'll be even more impressive. Peace and love from New Zealand, love your work, keep up the good vibes!
I love the whole concept of this channel. The fact that people from other genre's give Hip Hop a chance and aren't close minded like lots of people who assume most rap music is just talking over a beat. Even though you won't catch a lot of the lines in a lot of songs in reference to other Hip Hop artists, songs, albums etc. or simply because you need the ear of a Rap fan to catch some bars, it's great that you two give it a go and appreciate the talent in the industry. I'd also love to know some of your favourite artists (across all genre's) so I myself can explore other genre's.
Its actually 2 separate tracks that someone has combined, Kendrick used J.Cole's 'A tale of 2 citiez' beat, and J.Cole used Kendrick's 'Alright' beat. Its called black Friday as they released it on Black friday, great reaction guys.

The beat used by Kendrick is from a song called A Tale of 2 Citiez by J Cole and the second beat which J Cole used is from a song called Alright by Kendrick. Love the channel, the new T-shirt is dope!
By far my favourite part of your channel is the fact that you don't just sit and watch a music video for 10 minutes and then finish the video. I appreciate the fact you skip through parts where you guys aren't actually reacting, and stop it to talk. Simon is really starting to pick up on this hip hop shit too, loving this channel
I’m sure someone has said this already but the beats are from each others songs! Kendrick rapped on J.Cole’s ”A Tale of 2 Cities” and J. Cole rapped on Kendrick’s “Alright” Love the channel and the shirts!
Omg guys finally! I'm so glad you listened to this. I know that Kendrick has a unique sound but to me this is Kendrick going to the basics. And J.Cole let's be real he's not human haven't disliked anything I have heard of his yet. Love y'all keep up the amazing reactions. You guys are amazing. 😊
They rapped over each other’s beats from past songs. Cole rapped over Alright off of TPAB and Kendrick rapped over a tale of 2 cities off of 2014 Forest Hills Drive
This music was release at a time that people were crazy to see an Kendrick x Cole colaboration. So I think the released it in the black friday day. Other interestinting thing is that the first parte is Kendrick rhyming on a Cole beat and the second part was the other way around.
The beat in Kendrick’s part is from J. Cole’s song A tale of 2 cities and on Coles part it’s with Kendrick’s Alright song.. just fyi love watching you guys 😄❤️
The song came out on black friday a few years ago and the first beat with kendrick on it is a beat from one of j.coles songs and the second beat is from one of Kendrick’s songs
Before I watch the video may I say Thank You. This kind of thing, as little as it may seem, is what is needed to bridge the cultural and international gap and bring us all closer to understanding each other. Much Respect!
Guys basically K.dot has a song called Alright, Cole had a song called A tale of 2 Cities (you need to listen to them both to understand black Friday). There's been a lot of talk about them dropping a project together and when Black Friday dropped it shook the game up! There's loads to learn around Black Friday. PS it dropped on black Friday
Guess we should've told them that Kendrick and J Cole were using each other's beats
Kendrick is rapping over 'A Tale of 2 Citez' by J Cole and J Cole is rapping over 'Alright' by Kendrick.
These two songs came out on black friday 2015, when hype for a collab album between k.dot and J cole was at its highest.
