      That's not for beginners or dilletants. You need a basic knowledge of painting using that technique. Then you would know what colours are used..
      The skin for instance is a so-called Grisaille technique, very common at the era of Caravaggio.

      My standard colours I introduced at the beginning of this video:

      I prefer black sable bushes for the softer parts (da Vinci Serie 1840 & 1845) and Tintoretto Setola Extra 285 & 295. But I always look for other brands so it can change.

    • @oldmasterpaintings
      @oldmasterpaintings  4 года назад +1

      It took about two weeks. If you want to complete within a short time, take a fast drying oil as medium. I use self made blackoil, you can also use linseed oil varnish.

    • @BigBoss-ti2xm
      @BigBoss-ti2xm 3 года назад +1

      Underpainting and glazing method used take time to 1-2weeks, but if you are using wet on wet like what caravaggio did , you can make 2 paintings just in a single day.

  • @francescamariarosariatranc6819
    @francescamariarosariatranc6819 4 года назад +1

    Punto primo caravaggio utilizzava l'abbozzo, una tecnica che non si svolge così in nessun modo è un errore. Punto secondo è un errore fare prima lo sfondo e poi i soggetti interni, si lavora al contrario e se si parla di Caravaggio lui parte prima dall'abbozzo, quindi ritorniamo al punto uno. Punto tre nell'abbozzo si usa solo il terra bruciata, misto a olio formando le diversi gradazioni, non si aggiunge ne il bianco ne il nero è un errore grandissimo. I colori inoltre si mettono per velatura. Il bruno che si vede come sfondo è di solito il colore del bitume, che fungeva da strato protettivo del dipinto.

    • @mauroxx3052
      @mauroxx3052 4 года назад

      Ma per abbozzi che intende? Perché in Caravaggio, fermo restando che non ha usato una singola procedura sempre uguale a se stessa, gli abbozzi erano prevalentemente a biacca.

    • @francescamariarosariatranc6819
      @francescamariarosariatranc6819 4 года назад

      Nelle tecniche pittoriche per abbozzo si intende prima fase di preparazione. Di biacca equivale proprio a dire abbozzo a biacca, come abbozzo a guazzo, ovvero con colore diluito che può essere olio o acrilico.

    how do you sketch on the under paint?
    is it ok to trace a figure on then paint it?

    • @drf-24
      @drf-24 4 года назад +2

      Perfectly ok, just be aware of how your chosen material (pencil, charcoal,etc) you are tracing with will affect your oil paint as you start painting over it. A soft grade pencil will easily mix with your oil paint, especially with lighter tones, and in that, I do not recommend doing so. If ultimately you find tracing easier with a pencil, then get a harder grade pencil; I would say a 2H would do just fine. Psst. Even if you were to have an "impurity" brought on by the lead of a pencil, you can easily cover it later.

    • @oldmasterpaintings
      @oldmasterpaintings  4 года назад +1

      Normally I take chalk, from white to brown. Sometimes as a pencil, sometimes as whole piece.
      Chalk mixes with oils and you won´t see any rests of it.

      The imprimitura was a yellowish umber, looks like a yellow ocher but dries faster.
      I only paint with pure colour and a small amount of a fast drying oil like linseed oil varnish or selfmade blackoil. No solvents at all.
