Unleashed and Colors had proper physics for wall running, slope jumps and loops. In the case of Colors Sonic will gradually build speed as he runs down a hill or slope. However the games' level design aren't really designed to take advantage of these physics, and the boost locks Sonic at a fixed speed. There's a test map for Sonic Colors that plays with wall running and its super cool, because it doesn't have any automation or boost capsules.
@@waff64yes but having no momentum physics can be jarring and take you out of the game. Just shows how much care sonic team used to put into their games before lost world. Excluding mania ofc

what bugs me most is that in generations, despite using presumably the same game engine from unleashed, they got momentum physics right for modern sonic. however, they could not get this right for classic sonic for some odd reason. or maybe sonic team busted the momentum physics with generations overall for both characters.
they tightened modern sonic’s controls up the controls for gens (like the drift nowhere near as stiff as in unleashed) and probably reused the character controller for classic as it’s way faster than writing a new one from scratch

Except that it doesn't matter in a game with the boost, where you run so fast all the time. Generations is a better game and that one has 0 physics.
Slope physics or the impression of it are implemented in some games for basic game feel.
