This doesn't look like it was a proper disaster save.
It looks like the player played Germany, switched to the soviets after mostly winning then did some level of pre tutorial organization & sent it in.
Lmao yeah that’s what I was thinking as well, cause this is historical so Germany wouldn’t even been able to do sea lion nor does Vichy France exist. Dude then just used console command to tag switch to SU and did some basic remodeling (probably ended up deleting a lot of units) and sent it in to give bitter a tough time haha

the guy didnt playt as the ussr, german ai dosnt do sealions, he played as germany then switched to the ussr and 'organised' the theater but i dont think he realised that there was a 2nd theater so he kept the units in manchuria. ive never seen anyone but the ai put troops in manchuria so that just reafirms my assestment
In one of my tsar Russia games Germany actually sea Lioned obviously I just started another run it was 3 to 2 months ago but yeah it only happens to me once

This is a very AI game. Definitely played as Germany, and didn't have La Resistance.
I feel like AI soviet union would have prepared better than what we saw. Also he rushed mechanized and mediuk tank 2 way ahead of time which i dont think ai ever does

The historical Soviet AI takes expand the agitprop, so this is definitely not AI
Even the AI doesn't forget to research planes entirely though. This was definitely a player, you just underestimate how clueless some people are.
Yeah I never saw Germany ai destroying the uk before like 1944-1945.

I had a game recently that went almost exactly the same as this. Axis successfully sealioned and capitulated the Allies then came for me. I lost the Stalin line and got naval invaded in the north so I lost Leningrad. Got pushed all the way until I was fighting in Moscow itself and just outside Stalingrad. I actually managed to recover and by 1946, I had them on the ropes and was pushing back but just as I was about to start crowning myself Bittersteel reincarnate, Turkey joined the war with no warning and I capped. Most blue-balled I've ever been in HOI4.
Behind No Step Back I had one similar game as USSR. I fell back to the damn Urals! Was about to give up, but then I checked my numbers. Some 8M lost and over 20M lost on German side, so I decided I would grind them out. And I did. They never got past Urals, even though Germany got to the tile next to them. And then I pushed them back and capitulated them... Took to about 1950's but I did it. :-P

Honestly? This feels less like a disaster save and more like that person issued a challenge for you to repel their player-setup Germany. And if that's so, good job to the both of you.

To be fair, Superior Firepower could also describe historical SU pretty well
All the doctrines were to some extent practiced by every (major) army - Soviets did mass mobilization, deep battle, grand battleplan (what else would you call Kursk, for example?), superior firepower as you said and of course mobile warfare in their armoured doctrines. There were degrees, but the in-game separation of these is definitely ahistorical, though understandable from a gameplay perspective

I got instant PTSD from when the German AI steamrolled me as the USSR and my friend played commi-china.
We were both pushed back so hard that we were reduced to my friends home province.
And somehow we managed to turn the tide and win.
It took like...

The weirdest thing was that the AI actually used mechanized.
Italy is allowed into the dardenelles because they have alliance with Romania. Because the way naval locations are, the AIs command to go to the allied port overrides the Straight mechanic. I think you can do this too in SP
11:25 no intelligence agency porbably because he doesn't have the La Resistance DLC. I believe you can still do the focus without the DLC
CHALLENGE: As Trotskyist Russia defeat the axis, here's the twist. Your units will be 1 infantry and one support artillery. Your only grace is you have complete control of your air design, your shock troops of which you will have only 5, are 30 width motorized of your choosing. Say hello to 1000 infantry divisions!!

You talked about the player might not have the latest expansion. That could be some nice info to have, when you start a save. I mean it could explain a lot sometimes. I for example only have expansions up to waking the tiger, so was it my save I would no way to make an agency. Just a thought.

@@VK-jy3piefinitely wasn’t AI Soviets. He rushed mec and medium tanks. AI also does plane research and he had none. Also AI Soviets always does the focuses that he didn’t do like the agitprop. I have seen AI sea lion before multiple times. Rare but it definitely happens.

pretty sure left and right side of the river is defined by the direction of water flow, so you would be starting your operation from the right side in this case

I think you should ALWAYS build railway guns as a major nation. When you started puching, if you had then, it would help you alot.
Also, I know it'll be absolutely suffering, but I've been trying to accomplish a campaign where I would drain the Axis for all of their manpower as much as possible, scraping the barrel on the big 3 etc. Would love to see your attempt on it.
Just wanted to say Mass assault does make sense with the soviets purely because of their issue with getting xp. I've been able to get the "not a step back" and "Race for germany" achievement on normal

A lot of people thinking this guy initially played the Germans then switched: First, this is Ironman. Second, while the AI rarely does Sea Lion it is theoretically possible. Third, with historical AI turned on the Soviets would’ve gone a different path research and focus wise than this player did.
Funny enough I had a game that got close to this kind of territory of trouble. Didn’t have enough air, and the germans just seemed to be doing far better even on an even playing field, but I did make a lot of my industry away from the western lines so that helped a lot. The CAS killed attempts I had to counterattack for so long even when it seemed like I should win, but after enough slogging I made breakthrough and encirclements just as you did and nearly crushed the axis. That is, until Turkey for whatever reason joined the allies and declared war on me. It was over.

i still use 30 width medium tanks as germany. they're really op. my BIGGEST victory with them was 2 medium tanks vs 11 infantry divisions w/ 2 motorized & 1 light tank division. it was glorious. it got me a 300k manpower encirclement.
Mass Morb is a really powerful doctrine. Guerilla Tactics is THE best defensive tactic, Mass Charge tactic is THE tactic for battleplanning, and oddly enough you dont lose so many men. You can hard focus air and CAS your enemy to death.

I think this is my game from a while back and i see alot of people saying i switched from germany which i did not. This was my first ironman game as soviet ever and if you look i didnt have any dlcs. The reason the allies capped is because vichy france naval invaded dover and killed the uk with the help of germany.

@@Maximus-mf2ty if you don't have NSB which adds the tank designer, it won't show as any of the tanks being researched for Bittersteel.

The fact that Germany capitulated the UK is very telling that this player played Germany first. I've literally never seen German AI or Italian AI ever successfully perform a naval landing of the UK, much less attempt it.
I’ve seen Italian AI beat the uh like 3 times, I agree with you, but they could do it.
Italians sometimes do it, but certainly not by 1941. At that point they are usually still fighting in Africa.

Every time I see the "C'mon, do something" meme, I just remember the stream where Jim Davis revealed it and asked people to make memes with it.
When you want to check the lastest casulties for a battle you can click the document icon right side of the "theater name" (soviet theater 1 in your case). Then you will see the exact number you have killed in every battle. It also give lots of detailed information about battles. Cheers. I like your disaster contents.

@@poland-lithuania Yeah, there wasn't any confusion. I don't think you can add DLC to a save game that didn't have that specific DLC.
@@notmysteriousthief4629 You can though. If you add BBA to a non-BBA save it will give you the plane designer, just no planes researched.

As Soviet Union you can invest heavily in airplanes because you got the resourses, Cas is Op, if you combine it with good infantry you can easily rush all the way to Berlin without even micro maganing
Disaster saves are for learning and improving mistakes.

I'd tend to agree with some people saying about how this was probably a germany game, but the fact that Germany had both mediums and light makes me doubt that a bit more so idk.

I would have used trucks in the tanks and filtered them out as you built more mech, you wouldn't loose too many trucks and your tanks would be fully functional.
If you have Leningrad, Stalingrad, and or Moscow, it is not a disaster save. Until all of those cities fall the situation is favorable

ok @Bitt3rSteel is there a reason why no one clicks the motorization priority on their field marshal? I don't understand why no one does this who I watch because it gives your entire army under your field marshal supply. It makes it so much easier and it fully supplies your army so long as you have the trains and trucks to supply them. I'm not trying to be a jerk but its so frustrating watching people play and they complain they have no supply when they haven't clicked that button. PLEASE just click the damn button it will help you so much more in the end.
It costs a lot of trucks, I'd you don't have the air power to protect them
@@Bitt3rSteel ah I see, but even when people who have an airforce and are holding don't use it. It's confusing to me because it fixes a lot of supply issues if you aren't hurting for air to defend them. Personally I think if you put 2 or 3 mils on trucks at the beginning of the game you'll have more than enough for the rest of the game if you have an airforce as well. I know in your case you couldn't do much and you played it very well but this is a genuine question I've been asking people.
They either use logistic planes or motorization either way if you don’t have air then say goodbye to your supply.
@@smiley7399 My build is typically focus on Air and Infantry because tanks are kinda pointless now against A.I. if you're playing against another player yeah you'll need tanks but an Air Force is a must have. That's why it's important to always have an Air Force, I know he didn't have one on that particular playthrough but it's still important to try and build one. Agility and and Air Attack on a plane are more important than Air Defense because if you have more agility than the enemy fighters you're gonna rip them a new one in the air.
