High Evolutionary's staff didn't turn on him because he called himself God (which he didn't do directly). They turned on him, because he was obsessing over Rocket Raccoon instead of abandoning his exploding ship.

I literally just got back from seeing it and his review is spot on. The worst of the three but the best Marvel movie in quite awhile. This is due to James Gunn directing and the cast being so strong.
The movie is dark and the characters do cuss more. Gamora is straight up mean and nasty and Quill is the same guy with the exception that he’s willing to straight up kill people. There is one scene where he literally says “kill them all” which is not typical of Quill’s character.
Rocket’s back story is dark as f**k and quite sad and there is a lot of death in the film.
Also, he’s right about Adam Warlock. Starts out strong and interesting and turns to straight up garbage. Really no need for him to be in the film.
The bad guy, who was in Peacemaker, is a strong villain.
Drax, Mantis, Nebula are there usual selves though Nebula is softer now.
A lot of useless side characters with a few being cool.
An ok film. I give it a solid C+, maybe B-.

@@jjones9822I really liked it! I like the darker tone and focus on Rocket, plus let’s be honest Even though Drax is still the subject of a few jokes, he’s the most badass here than he’s ever been!

    • @lightvader4618
      @lightvader4618 Год назад +14

      @@Andyfierd I mean that's just false..
Peter Quill realizing that he shouldn't jump from woman to woman and that he could be happy without needing a woman and he does let Gamora go. And then also the theme of Rockets "I'm done running" goes with Quill as well as he goes back to Earth.
Mantis gets bossed around and yelled at a lot by Nebula and Gamora and she realizes that the Guardians have been kinda telling her what to do and Ego did the same also so she's never really had true independence and that's why she goes on her own.
It's kinda made clear and it's great that they address this that Drax has been kinda comic relief and that while he's kinda a dumbass it's very sincere and comes from a genuine place of love. He saves all the child slaves and becomes a dad again.
Nebula kinda continues the arc she has been on for multiple movies where she has been closer and closer to the Guardians and she loves them and she genuinely thinks of them as family.
As for Gamora she you know softens up throughout the movie and in regards to the relationship with Quill she goes from absolutely dismissing it to saying that they probably had fun and realizing why she could have been in love with him.
Groot doesn't really have an arc except you he's been growing up throughout the movies and he's become more and more dependable.

They sometimes forgot the context and just try so hard to find the flaws in it.

For instance, he claimed that when the characters freed animals, the animals started attacking people on the ship, but in reality, only one animal did so. Additionally, the comedy in the movie is well-done, and Quill only tries to convince Gamora of their romance a few times throughout the film, before eventually giving up. About the animals cyber parts being pointless, like on the wheelchair with the walrus, here's my theory:
    - In the movie it's shown that the High Evolutionary experiments and creates over time more "perfect" specimen, to the point he doesn't need cybernetic stuff anymore, he puts the animal in a cage, "magic smoke", and boom! New specimen.
So what if Rocket simply was his final attempt with cybernetics, and the other animals his first attempts?
Maybe at first he didn't know how to make an animal talk, so he removed half of the bunny skull and replaced it with a talking mask device and a small upgrade on the brain (which explains why Floor talks bad), then his next try was to figure out how to make animals walk fast as a human, so he created a wheelchair for the walrus + cyber modifications on his face to get expressions. Then, with Lylla the challenge was to create prehensible hands, so the first attempt was to cut the arms out completely and put cyber arms on her. And then Rocket, which with clothed on looks like a perfect anthro raccoon, while in reality he is simply a feral raccoon cut in pieces together with metal to being reshaped as a human.
My theory is supported by the fact that while killing them all as a final purpose, the High Evolutionary still wanted to take Rocket brain as a thing of value to test more, while had no interest in parts of the others, since they were previous and rough attempts.
At least, these are my two cents ^^

I did not care for the music in Vol 3. It doesn't tie well into the moments or make me want to get the album. The characters were all in a very dark place they most of the movie. And it felt very grim because of it. Made for good drama, which i enjoyed, but it also makes all the jokes fail. I miss the lightheartedness of Vol 1 & 2. That's what made these movies stand out for me from the Marvel movies. Lovable goofballs who dick around but save the galaxy along the way. This seems more like DC trying to make a Marvel movie, which makes sense considering where James Gunn is going.

I feel they could of did more with Adam Warlock and built him up more like how they did with Thanos. I feel it would of have been better if they showed more of Adam’s relationship with his mother and maybe revealed earlier in a post-credits scene that his mother was working for The High Evolutionary the whole time. It felt like that idea was just dropped in instead of being gradually being built upon. Then they could of ended with Adam realizing that the Guardians aren’t that bad, discovers he was just made to be a tool of destruction by The High Evolutionary, gets his revenge on him and is the one who finishes him off.

    A few corrections here:
    - The High Evolutionary didn't torture animals for the sake of it. He wanted to create the perfect society (as you have said in the video), and once he figured out how to make sentient animals with the flip of a switch, those animals were no longer needed. They are solely "a step in his path".
    - Those scientists didn't turn on H.E because he called himself a god. They turned on him because H.E wanted Rocket captured at the cost of the ship's destruction and they wanted to get back to their original mission ("You have an unreasonable obsession with that animal!").
    - That monkey was the only one that attacked someone, other animals didn't. It was either saving those abused animals, or let them die. And I think everyone would've been pissed if Rocket and the Guardians chose the latter.
    - The High Evolutionary isn't overly emotional. He couldn't keep his calm demeanor forever, especially during the third act when the ship was on fire and Rocket was nearby.
I usually love your content, but you kinda fumbled the ball here.

These type critics like Reaper and The Critical Drinker just ask for perfection in every movie and if it's not perfect they'll provide baseless criticisms that no one else has a problem with sometimes they will be so focused on critiquing something that they just miss the point entirely

I think the reason his staff turns on him is not because he proclaims himself as God, but because a giant Celestial head is attacking them and this idiot wants to stand and fight, while the hired goons would rather not die pointlessly. Btw, love it how the High Evolutionary is basically invulnerable and untouchable with his powers throughout the movie, until the end when he just randomly can be hurt like anyone.

Thanks for drawing attention to the part that struck me as the most bizarrely out of place: Mere minutes after we saw the horrifying mangled mess of a face caused by a raccoon attack, we see an innocent brave woman risking her life for wild animals… and her face gets savaged. I genuinely have no idea why that is there. It ruined the tone, is never reflected on, and just felt like random gross idiocy that I had no desire to forgive. Who thought that moment had a purpose? It happens in a scene that seems totally in favor of helping random wild animals, yet it invokes images of that woman’s face maybe looking like that of the High Evolutionary. What… the… *frick* was anyone thinking here?
This movie was incredibly hit and miss, with some very impactful elements and some genuinely baffling decisions.

Rocket wasn’t the only one capable of innovating, but he was able to understand and improve things that the High Evolutionary didn’t notice. The other animals were also capable of incredibly intelligent learning, but they couldn’t create things more complex than the high evolutionary. Basically whatever innovation they were capable of was meaningless to the high evolutionary because he could have conceived it, but rocket was smarter than him. Classic case of destroying positive improvement instead of nurturing it, it’s also interesting to compare this to the current AI discourse
