Exactly! If she wants to play the “can only announce her FIRST pregnancy once” bs then I have something to add. The OP and her husband can only celebrate THAT anniversary ONCE as well because the next year won’t be their first wedding anniversary (or however many years it was) since the next year it will be their second anniversary no longer their first anniversary. Will knew what she was doing and boy did it to put attention on herself. She knew damn well her announcing that during OP’s anniversary dinner wasn’t to make everyone happy and knew damn well it wasn’t news that was going to make OP happy. Well that is unless Dial is that delusional.
Stealing Jenny's thunder? It was their Anniversary party. The focus or "thunder" was supposed to be on them. And it was at their house, they threw the party and invited specific guests. Thats like a maid of honor wearing a white dress to outshinr the bride. Jenny is an attention seeker. She probably only got pregnant to outdo or beat this couple.

What kind of self-centered mindset do you have to have in order to announce your pregnancy at the anniversary party of a couple YOU KNOW IS STRUGGLING WITH CONCIEVING A CHILD. SIL's now ex husband dodged a whole magazine of bullets by filing for divorce and full custody. If SIL is so entitled that she's willing to gaslight others and rub salt in open wounds, imagine what she would have done to that poor child.

Full Story:
This was cut very terribly to make it seem like OP was making a big deal towards her SIL. What really happened was SIL knew that OP and her husband were struggling. OP essentially poured her heart out to her and told her about her struggles in pregnancy and her stress a week before the party. On the day of the party, when SIL announced her pregnancy, OP essentially started tearing up. She and her husband didn’t want to make a big scene so they stayed away to gather themselves before coming back. When they came back, they tried to stay as composed as possible and congratulated her.
A few days later, they get pulled in to a family meeting. Where SIL played victim and the rest of the family gaslighted OP and her husband to think they were in the wrong. Wrong for not being able to hold her emotions and for stealing the SIL thunder AT THEIR ANNIVERSARY PARTY and they apologized. Obviously OP and her husband felt unfair, but they still apologized and decided to cut ties with the family cause obviously what they did in that family meeting was pretty messed up.
Another few days past, SIL messages husband (her bro) to meet up without OP. Husband forwards message to OP and they both go meet her. Long behold, SIL husband after the family meeting confronted her, because apparently she lied when he asked if she asked for OP permission to announce the news. So when he found out and that she knew OP was struggling with her pregnancy. He realized that she deliberately did this on purpose to hurt OP and even had the whole family gaslight OP and her husband. So he refused to go back home until she asked for forgiveness from them. Which they didn’t, cause she was insincere about it. Which seems like this isn’t the first time she pull something like this or that they had problems in their marriage.
SIL husbands filed for divorce for full custody. OP and her husband went to the fertility center and were told they were fine. So they are still working hard. They cut off OP husband’s family and told the extended family who mostly stood on her side that they won’t show up if any of them show up.

Good. The SIL husband will end up in jail if he stays with her. Obviously she has no problem lying to her husband or lying to other people and likes hurting other people. That usually would end up with at least her lying about the husband being abusive to get custody of the kids when they break up and maybe even getting him tossed in jail

I wouldn’t call this torture, I call this an extreme overreaction of the main character.
Two things stand out in this story, first that eight months of trying to get pregnant is not a very long time at all. Second, who in their right mind tells the whole family that they are pregnant for less than a month. Usually, they wait until the end of the first trimester because many miscarriages happen in the first couple of months. You might tell your mom or best friend, but not everyone in the family. Not having children when you want to be a mom really stinks, but it won't kill you. Been there, done that!

When I clicked, I thought they have been trying for YEARS to have a kid…nothing justifies what the sister in law did…that was either super evil or a total air head moment…but making a BIG DEAL of not being able to get pregnant in just 8 months of marriage sounds over exaggerated… almost all my cousins had their kids in 2-3 years of trying and they were super chill in their honeymoon phase of marriage

NTA at the end of the day she did it knowing u were struggling to conceive and did it on that night it probably would have gone better if she told everybody one on one. And don’t worry we are here for u it does take a toll on ur mental health when u can’t conceive me and my husband struggled for five years and if I was pregnant it would end in a miscarriage but finally got pregnant. It’s so tacky announcing anything at a party that’s not YOURS. It’s obviously a cheap move because they do not want to spend money on announcement party so they choose to use someone’s else’s party as their own which is 1 disrespectful. If you want to do this you should always asks the permission of the persons who’s party it is. At least to be nice but even then I’d still think your cheap and tacky.

It's all good. But OP is not the only reason they were getting a divorce. It might've been the last straw for the husband. But, if I was OP, I would forgive Jenny just to see if the husband would see right through her and so I can just forget about this and move on with my life. And I don't think it's right to split a newborn from the mother no matter how bad her personality is (nothing in OP's story suggested that Jenny will make an abusive or neglectful mother) i think she genuinely will care for her child. A newborn desperately need to be with the baby's mother because her heartbeat and voice are the only familiar things to the baby. If Jenny is proven to be a bad mother, then the husband has my full support though. But announcing a pregnancy at someone's expense and the fiasco that followed through should not be the ground for the split. The husband should've waited until the child is born otherwise the court will not see why the baby should be split from the mother.
