  • Hi all, I am celebrating 3 years of Solace in Shelling on RUclips. I thought, what better way to do this, than to count down some of my favorite shelling/beachcombing moments from the start of my channel.
    These moments aren't in any particular order(every single one is GREAT in my opinion), but they are some of the moments that I am particularly fond of, and that stand out in my mind as extraordinarily memorable.
    Thank you all for following my on this journey, and for supporting this passion of mine for 3 years now. I will continue to bring beachy, shelly goodness in every way that I can. The opportunity to share these experiences with the world is what originally inspired me to create content.
    Shell Love to All!

    You've been so fortunate to travel to so many places to go beachcombing! If I travel abroad, the first place I'm going is Turks and Caicos. A big thank you to YOU! I really enjoyed this one and seeing your top finds and do remember some of them from many of your videos I've watched! Some I haven't seen, yet, but look forward to seeing those videos as well. When I have down time, I love being able to sit back and watch your videos and appreciate your time and effort. I know a lot of time goes into them and through your videos I'm getting to virtually visit so many beautiful places!!! I'll likely get to a few but many aren't likely but you never know. I enjoy seeing your beautiful finds from many different places and seeing the differences and similarities of the shells found in various locations. I'm fortunate in that we do get to travel to some nice places but I know many don't have that privilege and through your videos, we all feel like we're traveling with you. We recently went on a cruise out of Long Beach, CA to Mexico and actually had a couple of ours at a beach in that area along the cliffs and wow, such a nice variety for such a short amount of time. If you ever get out that way, I'd be happy to let you know where. Congratulations on 3 years of videos and looking forward to many more! Thank you again!!!

    What a glorious compilation video! May I ask a question? What does fossil reject mean?

    • @solaceinshelling6552
      @solaceinshelling6552  7 месяцев назад

      I think the shell you are referring to is the "Rejected Neptune" - it's the common name for the shell...the latin name is Neptunea despecta, and it is a species of Neptune shells. This particular shell is a fossil, as I presume it be from a Presumpscot Formation deposit. The Presumpscot Formation is a late Pleistocene glacial/geological feature made predominantly of marine blue clay(from the last Ice Age) located along the coastal and inland areas of Maine.

      Hi friend! I can only speak to my experience, but I have never had any issues bringing a few shells back with me. If I'm traveling abroad shelling, I usually bring small tupperware containers/bubblewrap and put the shells in my checked suitcase. With that said, I always check local shelling/beachcombing laws prior to travelling to a new place.

    So fun!!! I have a question about what does it mean to say that a shell is “fossil rejected “? I have never heard that term before and I’m curious what it means and how to identify a shell like that. It was really pretty with all the blue and black colors on it.

    • @solaceinshelling6552
      @solaceinshelling6552  7 месяцев назад +1

      Apologies as I see this could be confusing: The species I found is called a "Rejected Neptune"(Neptunea despecta). It is considered a fossil as I presume it washed up from an offshore fossil deposit that's part of a geological feature in Maine called The Presumpscot Formation.
      Today, Rejected Neptunes aren't commonly found as far south as Maine, as they are strictly an Arctic species. These shells along with other similar species, did however, thrive in this area during the last Ice Age, and were buried in marine clay over as the climate changed. These ancient marine clay deposits occur in buried sediments throughout coastal areas northern New England. Hope that helps!

      @@solaceinshelling6552oh! Thanks for explaining. That is so very interesting! I love getting to see the northern shells that I have never seen and to see something Arctic and fossilized is super cool! I can only imagine how psyched you were to find it!
