I'm not sure but I believe that Lääne means simply "western" or like. I have read about the history of the Vormsi island. Its Swedish name has been Ormsö, and there had lived a Swedish population since 1200s but they had left the island in the 1940s when the soviet occupation began. There are plenty of places ending "mõisa" in that area. It is the same word like "gård" in scandinavian languages meaning a big farm, and in genitive.
I was too lazy again for click counting. Some of the rounds were "too Estonian", you definitely know what I mean :D

Yeah, the history bit of Vormsi definitely makes sense. Just found it curious that Swedish names remained there, while they didn't on Hiiumaa and Saaremaa. Funny how things work out sometimes.
