4:40 It's not quite accurate to say that the game is not native because it was written in C#. The *scripting* is done in C# (which is not uncommon in game development) but the lower-level engine code that are in charge of talking to the OS are probably C++-based. Pretty much all game engines today have a higher level scripting component for faster iteration and safer coding for gameplay programmers, and the engine provides hooks into the C++ graphics/engine code that are more optimized for performance.

I think from a technical standpoint, the performance is impressive across all M1 chips there, when we consider how much power these chips consume. I don't expect high-end gaming PC level of performance even from M1 Max, considering M1 Max Studio's maximum power consumption is rated at 115 W, while a high end gaming PC could consume many times more. My only gripe is that on my M1 MacBook air, the audio in cut scenes are so out of sync. I'm hearing the plot move first before seeing the action on the screen. Playing the game in open locations is perfectly fine though!
I think at the 11:15 mark the frame rate markers have been positioned the wrong way around? The right hand side looks reconstructed and a bit smoother, though it's hard to tell from the short clip.
I honestly don't think that i would waste my time playing on an apple device since Windows PCs and even Linux does do a way better job in that era, but, it's nice to know how it performs, which is nuts compared to a PC with even a 3060 GPU
Looks like Apple Silicon is pretty heavily starved for memory bandwidth or memory in general. The CPU and GPU clearly aren't a bottleneck since they've been doing basically nothing in all these tests. M1 Pro should theoretically have half-ish or a bit more of the performance of the M1 Max in terms of the GPU alone (GPUs usually don't scale completely linearly with more cores/CUs/whatever the manufacturer calls them), but it doesn't. You get, with default settings, 1080p 60+-ish with noticeable dips but on the M1 Max you get 1440p at double the frame rate. So either the CPU or the GPU (more likely the GPU) isn't getting data fast enough.

@@daveh6356 yes there a ton of videos of a 3090 with higher frames and higher settings at 4k. Don’t get me wrong the M1 Max is great. These however are nowhere near graphics parity with modern high level gaming GPUs. Not even close.

You can easily crank this to 1440 and not really notice any frame rate issues. Have already completed the game on this resolution on my M1 iMac (2021). Impressed with how good this port is. Even if it is just another walking simulator.
you are saying stuff like: uses 30% of cpu/gpu, but that seems like it's not very well optimised. That tells me you could still get up to 2x better performance on the same cpu if it were optimised better. I wonder if any future updates will address this
It's great to eventually see a AAA Game on MacOS. But tbh this is nothing Apple should be proud of...instead they should be full of shame advertising and selling as the super graphic gaming experience. Well, if Apple really wanna go further into the gaming sector, they need to work very hard to get the price down. For around 1000€ you will get a 1440p 120hz+ gaming pc, whereas looking from your testing you need a Mac with M1 Max...to be frankly this is not anywhere competeable. Even last gene console can compete with M1 Macs and talking about current gene console that support up to 120hz.....if you want gaming you better off with a current gene console or gaming....Imagnine spending the price of a Mac M1 Max in a gaming PC you can easily play in 4K 144Hz...Apple has a long way to go... Great comparison and testing...it was really eye opening to me.

As that software base builds it would be good to see an M2/M2Pro version of Apple TV (with Apple Arcade+) to entice AAA development.
I wonder if 4K high on an M1 Ultra beats the ~120fps on a 3090 😉
No, there’s no chance that it does
@@justinstewart3248 what evidence do you have for this? The M1 Max achieves 60fps already.
@@daveh6356 yes there a ton of videos of a 3090 with higher frames and higher settings at 4k. Don’t get me wrong the M1 Max is great. These however are nowhere near graphics parity with modern high level gaming GPUs. Not even close.
@@justinstewart3248 hence mentioning the M1 Ultra, the Max seems to hold its own with PC laptop GPUs. It'll be good to see settings parity comparisons. I notice HDR isn't mentioned so much on the PC so it's hard to directly compare.
@@daveh6356 yeah they can def hold their own with lap top GPUs
I love your videos. I do like Apple (iPhone, Apple Watch, etc) but i kept my pc and laptop with Nvidia and AMD. I do not know if this stupid. But why it does not use 100% of the GPU to get much better fps.
isnt it better the more cpu and gpu usage there is
why not fully use the gpu
honestly wee need CS 1.6 ported to new macs !
You can easily crank this to 1440 and not really notice any frame rate issues. Have already completed the game on this resolution on my M1 iMac (2021). Impressed with how good this port is. Even if it is just another walking simulator.
why does it only use 30% cpu and gpu? shouldn't it use... 100%? if it doesn't reach the cap fps
Does X-Plane 12 not support HDR on Mac? 🤔
how to setup the HDR brightness???
can you test dota 2 on M1 Max or Ultra pls 🙏🏽
13:50 why there is alot bottleneck gpu ???why not 90%+ ?? there is nothing like this on windows devices
why isnt it available via steam?
you are saying stuff like: uses 30% of cpu/gpu, but that seems like it's not very well optimised. That tells me you could still get up to 2x better performance on the same cpu if it were optimised better. I wonder if any future updates will address this
And everyone had forgotten that Macs even exist haha
is there any new game coming for mac os for intel or intel macs are done for and we will never be able to get the pleasure of playing games on mac
Oh wow first game in years. So much wow. And my intel pro doesnt support it. THANKS APPLE MUCH APPRECIATED.
So basically re village is not fully optimized for Apple Silicon
Can anyone please tell me whether we can play this game with nouse please???
Coolness.
If we suppose that RE Village runs with Metal 3, how can be possible to run the game on Monterey?
Because it can likely switch APIs like many PC games. Most games on PC support at least 2 APIs and can launch under DX11, DX12, and Vulkan.
Did anyone notice audio desync and lag in cutscenes? I found a lot of solutions for Windows but not for Mac OS. Anyone had this issue and found a fix?
What does he mean when he says stuff like "it uses X% of the GPU and CPU"?
