The Vanillas is crazy 😂
The Vanillas 🤣🤣
I was pretty much waiting for it, and the title didn't disappoint. Lol
...so the Maker created a bleached-out universe then
No.. there are black hereos and villains.. blerd just wants the avengers to start with black characters
@@BBoldGaming ...thanks!!
It's interesting that the container or whatever it's supposed to be that Hank has with him when Janet was talking about the dreams he had earlier looks a lot like Ultron Mark 1.
I am ALMOST always a “comics > adaptations” kind of fan, but I genuinely believe that the best version of Hank Pym is the version from the Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes cartoon. They actually treat Hank like a nuanced human being who is deeply flawed and troubled but ultimately a good person. They treat his struggle with compassion and understanding because Hank isn’t bad, he’s sick
When considered in the context of mental health and what we know now, Hank Pym’s treatment in the comics has always come across as incredibly mean spirited at best and outright disgusting at worst. I am NOT saying spousal abuse is okay, but Mr. Fantastic and Spider-Man have both hit their wives before without any real justification, yet Marvel allowed them to walk away clean and it is never brought up
Meanwhile Hank Pym was in the middle of a full-blown mental health breakdown (he’s canonically been confirmed to suffer from severe bipolar disorder and anxiety) when he hit Wasp. Again, this is NOT meant to be justification, just an explanation (the two are very different concepts IMO)
The worst part is that Hank has already “redeemed” himself multiple times, yet Marvel doesn’t allow him to move on. Any longtime Avenger reader will back me up here: there have been MULTIPLE storylines where Hank does something heroic, Wasp tells him she forgives him, and it looks like Hank is finally going to be allowed to move on. Yet there’s always another hack writer who thinks “Hank Pym made a (albeit bad) mistake decades ago, we can’t let him be a hero” and it’s so awful
Spider-Man fans who complain about editorial not allowing him to progress as a character have nothing to complain about compared to Hank Pym fans lol
To be fair, those "hack" writers are also giving a taste of the real world that just because someone may be a super being mostly fighting crime, they're not necessarily a 100% good and/or mentally healthy person. Marvel chose a while ago to scuff Reed, Charles, Hank M, Hank P and other characters' shoes, and I guess he pulled the short straw of spousal abuser. You are correct that he got healthier and was never shown as a continuous abuser (other than verbally), so the infamous slap isn't the behavior that keeps people side eyeing him.
Truthfully and unfortunately, no person I know suffering with bipolar disorder or other serious mental health issues "gets over it" so despite medications there are times their actions are concerning or extreme. A realistic depiction of Hank would include those periods of low medication efficacy, mood swings, and tension between him and people closest to him.
Vanilla..hahaha. The first time they had any sprinkling was when Monica joined.
I thought you’d think they were too white but really it’s the majority of the original Avengers but with Sif in place of Hulk and the addition on a non powered Reed. Same skin tone as the characters from 616 so if they changed that people would equally be annoyed. To me this just felt like an homage to the first formation of the Avengers
Thank you Blerd for always address the lack of color in these Marvel comic teams, when they have options to pick from even outside of Black Panther. It’s very validating for me to hear you say it and I think forces people to have to acknowledge or at least be aware that this is an issue comic fans care about
That's what I'm saying. I didn't expect a Blue Marvel or Spectrum because they're scared of that power, but they usually throw in a street level (Luke Cage, Misty Knight, etc) and they didn't even do that.
Thor and Sif should be able to snuff anyone but to me the most interesting character could be Reed as Doom. Is he gonna just be Doom or a better version or is it Reed but cosplaying as Doom, I'd love to see how that goes
The irony in she needing time while we're both looking at the rosters of the current Avengers comic & the upcoming Avengers Assembled comic. Out the gate, they read the room. Solid video as always. 🙏🏾
What would be your ideal roster?
What i was hoping for in the new Ultimate universe was more 616 heroes coming over to protect a new universe. Miles and Gwen for example going to the Ultimate side while other spider people stay. Instead of two Captain Americas maybe Steve fights to restore America in the Ultimate Universe while Sam is the one and only Cap in 616. So many heroes like the Champions could find more new life taking on bigger roles in the Ultimate Universe. We have two fists of Konshu. We had two hulks, two Daredevils, two Wolverines.
Ultimate is my 616
But i mean hey. My brother.. We know
Its gonna have some color on there let em cook.
Didn’t iron lad time nap cap from the ice to now?
It wasn't a bad issue despite the lack of color. But kind of disappointing that this is a pretty conventional team versus some of the other Ultimate books. Besides Doom being Reed Richards there is no real twist. Most of the characters are just like their 616 counterparts. Thor, Sif, Cap, virtually unchanged. Tony is a teenager and has a different name but pretty much the same. And despite being delayed by a few years, Giant Man and the Wasp seem very similar except I think it is a cool touch that Giant Man is really a giant.
Well, Giant Man's brain damage is making him a very different character as his genius, hubris, and inferiority complex is what tended to drive his out of pocket behaviors. That wouldn't be the same here, although I figure they'll still give him issues.
@@bajansamurai That's true. And in fairness, while Captain America is essentially the same character, he's returning when his country is gone.
@@pelicanhill3251 OH for sure. Don't get me wrong: placing them in a completely different setup to the world is very interesting and lends to a different take on what went down in the 616, plus potential different personality development, but we've also seen 60+ years of Avenging, so it'll be left to see how different they can keep it to be worth having its own universe long term. Just waiting like most here to see how long it takes to flavor things up, despite liking all of the vanilla characters so far presented.
I hope the woman in the free comic book day cracking her knuckles is Jessica Jones and not She Hulk, I just think it would be more interesting
Considering solicitations are out it's 100% Shulk
Black Widow
Ice-ice baby
The Vanillaz is wildt😭😭😭
4:31 if maker killed peter parker spidar than how did iron lad turn peter parker into spiderman?
I thought Ultimate Black Panther would start with Tchalla not knowing that he was the king...
For THA STREEETZ
The 616 version of Hank Pym only became a jerk/mentally messed up after that lab accident screwed up his mind and he became Yellowjacket. I agree with Blerd about the Ultimate Comic Universe being trash. IMO, the ONLY thing good that came out of the Ultimate Universe was Mile Morales.
The streets don't want the original Ultimates, they better go somewhere else.
Blerd I think you’re being generous giving it 3 issues. I’m out after #1, vanilla team with a vanilla story to match.
So what you’re saying is you don’t like Marvel or the Avengers because that’s all it is.
Take lady Sif out a put in hulk
Hulk is apart of the Illuminati who set up Stark in that universe.
Sigh this probably what they gunna try to do with mcu after secret wars n they soft reboot which I hope not the case I don't need Tony as a lad he is a man iron man to be exact lol
Half true... Captain America was frozen in Ice in 1945 or 1944 when there were only 48 states.. And became unfroze either in 1963 if you go Avenger #4 or 70 years later by the MCU timeline.
After the annual introduction of various statehood bills H.R. 7999 passed in the House on May 28, 1958, passed in the Senate on June 30, 1958 and was signed into law by the President on July 7, 1958. On January 3, 1959 he signed the official proclamation admitting Alaska as the 49th state.
Hawaii August 21, 1959 (admitted)
lol it really is. Considering that they had full range to actually create hereoes different from the 616 counterparts (the point of the Ultimate universe), this is kind of the same. This just seems lackluster and im pretty sure the "hidden" figures are Blk Panther, She-hulk, and Captain Marvel/Spectrum-the usual members. They could have at least traded out Sif for a different version of a Valkyrie or a whole new character of color.
Technically they don't have free range since they are a splinter of the 616, and ultimately the point was to create the familiar with a new take, but I get what you're saying.
If they wished they could have done a few things:
- start with a couple of the OG team dead, refusing to take up the mantel or coming in later and go for their replacements (e.g., Bill Foster's Goliath in place of Hank; Isaiah Bradley in place of Steve, Monica Rambeau right off the bat)
- seal off Asgard and put an Egyptian, Chinese, Japanese, African or Mayan deity in place of Thor.
- put the team on a B line to Sentry, Xorn and Blue Marvel; and with a compromised Bruce, get Jen right off the bat.
Can't have it too dissimilar though, so only 3 departures max from the founding team, with some better representation of ethnicities.
@@bajansamurai these are really great ideas. I really like the alternative God idea. Could even couple it with Shang Chi as an ancient warrior/deity as that God replacement-so it still ties into the Marvel mythos.
@@1187underground Shang Chi, yes. Taking the deity spot? Nah. Rather see an actual other pantheon represented and let Shang be the skilled human warrior (with or without the 10 rings).
Despite the vanilla of it all, I'm glad they damaged Hank's brain and would be giving him a clean slate though. I just wish someone had the forethought that in 2024 an assemblage that bothered to put Reed "Doom" Richards in the formation of the Ultimate Avengers could have also shown some non-White characters some love. Says a bit that it still doesn't strike them as strange to do.
Giantman > Antman
1) What was there to fix re: Pym? The abuse was a one-shot incident and could be reasonably blamed on the chemicals he was dealing with; the two have made up rather amicably since then and Pym is an Avenger in good standing. Or are we comparing him to the mess that was The Ultmates (which was all sorts of messed up).
It doesn't even have a hulk
Yes it does he’s part of the Illuminati in that universe.
The maker is trash! I love you Ernie, but making Reed evil the way they did was not good at all. He didn't even become interesting until the 1610 universe was destroyed and he came over to the mainline 616 comics. Miles Morales, Green Goblin, and Nick Fury are the only good things outta 1610....PERIODT!!!!!!
Nah The Maker is about to become the biggest villain Marvel ever had when the temporal dome opens back up and let’s him out the city in 18 months because inside the city it will have been like 100s of years, he’s gonna be fuming and go scorched earth.
Marvel need to let the Ultimate universe go! They need just focus on 616 and let that be that.
Many people including me liked him being abusive as it made him standout(unique) and gave us an interesting story.
What horrible way to get attention, counting the race of character in a story. Shameful...
Hopefully Janet's actually asian.
Why?
@@fittzieShe was Asian in the original Ultimate Universe
@@TitularHeroine That's true. I don't mind either way
In the original Ultimate Universe they treated that as an anything goes variation. In this one they're splintered from the 616 so other than meddling in parent hookups that still result in someone getting the same classic name, they're all going to be the same exact ethnicities and races - and therein lies the issue that they're repeating what the '60s crafted.
The power would have lied in bringing on later Avengers earlier.
@@bajansamurai Not sure that I’m too concerned at the moment
It's sad how far we come and still no diversity in the diaspora I wonder if we stop reading the comics what would happen will they change or quit?
