Why the Beast of Gevaudan Was an Extinct Werewolf

- Between 1764 and 1767, around one hundred people in the Geuvodon region of France met violent deaths. Around 50 or so people were able to survive terrifying and brutal attacks. According to the locals, the culprit behind these killings was a creature known simply as the Beast of Geuvodon.
What was this beast? Through the centuries, lots of different candidates have been proposed-everything from a wolf to a lion to an extinct species of hyena.
Okay, hear Brian out. He thinks the beast might be an extinct species of bear dog. And he thinks that this bear dog might (stay with him on this) be the basis of werewolf legends…

For that matter a beadog could explain dogman sightings as well
Never heard of that, are they 7ft tall anthropomorphic upright walking bipedal canines? Now I gotta research this. Dire wolves, possibly
Ive heard the story and supposedly it was a now extinct hyena (long haired) that the man who shot it had picked up in africa on a trip
Perhaps a DIRE WOLF left over? Watch THE BROTHERS OFTHE WOLF, movie, very good!
I still think an emaciated Barbary Lion that was either released or escaped sounds likely.
Check out our full discussion where we talk about that theory too!
The Beast of Gevaudan was most likely a very large and aggressive Hyena.
Also a good candidate!
Im getting alot of serial killer vibes from the main guy.
It was a Loup-Garou. They are shape shifters which accounts for the discrepancies in the accounts.
I've always thought Andrewsarchus or Amphicyon if a creature...but most likely a human serial killer whose fursona was a werewolf
Is the physical therapist there to make sure yall don't tear an ACL jumping to conclusions?
😂
Quite probably feral dogs of the Alaunt type a large war dog breed that had been in existence for centuries(imagine a wolfhound sized dog of mastiff build with and a pit bull attitude weighing up to 90 kg which were specifically bred and trained to kill people. it could also possibly be outlaws or deserters using dogs of this type to frighten people including soldiers away from their hideouts and to make it easier to loot corpses slain by the dogs or hide their own killings. Sadly the Alaunt though extinct as a breed is being brought back by certain criminal gangs most notably in Glasgow
Multiple bear dogs could have been fatally wounded, and crawled off somewhere to die.
I need a movie about this theory. Plausible, not really. Cinematic, AF!
brotherhood of the wolf, it's french and it's been out for over 20 years.
@@prettyjohnshill76 I am aware of this film, don’t they run with theory that it was a big cat?
@@OldGreyGryphon sorry i miss read your comment.
yes, they made it out to be something one of the main characters brought over from africa. then used it to instil fear in the populace.
@@prettyjohnshill76 I should admit, I have not actually seen BOF, just heard about it.
Speaking of the real beast, I think it was a trained wolf dog that was used for the purpose of spreading terror and unrest. Though there were probably some regular wolf attacks thrown in.
Of course I’m open to other theories, that’s just the one I find most likely.
Your thoughts?
@@OldGreyGryphon after watching the film 20 something years ago, then realising it was based on a true story. i did think it could be a hyena or even a timber wolf from north america, as the french had territory on both continents.
but if we knew for sure, would it be as interesting and mysterious today as it is? probably not.
all the best mate 👍
It was the first furry
I dont agree with a bear wolf hybrid or extinct animal. The beast was spotted with its pups. They killed the adult, then weres the pups? Or other killing sprees.the pups would have grown up and did the same. Also were was the mother? Kids and mother were never spotted afterwards
Fair point.
Beardogs were not bear/wolf hybrids. They were their own thing, called Amphicyon.
Zero respect for any opinion from anyone who is a young earther. Sorry I watched a much as I did
What about the Vagina Boob?
Any opinion?
@OldGreyGryphon not the slightest ounce of interest in anything they have to say. To even argue or debate would be to lend credibility to their beliefs, and I shall lend none to ignorance such as that.
@@khsgr8 Including opinions that aren’t related to young earth theory?
You might have at least heard the middle guy out until he admitted that his theory about the bear dogs was highly unlikely.
@@khsgr8 Seriously, this is a video about 1700s wolf attacks and you left when you heard one of the guys believes something that isn’t really related to the topic.
I thought you were supposed to be the tolerant, rational one.
that intro is so cringy come on man work on it bro
Yeah it wasnt great was it
It was just a sick wolf. It wasn't strong enough to attack sheep or cows but children and shepards were fine. No need for the supernatural. Also, bigfoot's a bear.
