Lo que se ha visto en el video es que la comida en España es muy diferente que la comida los ingleses comen mientras de vacaciones. Ni siquiera moderna realmente, solo en porciones pequeñas bien presentada. Lo único fuera de lo básico es el atún, que así sí es más raro verlo, pero el resto es comida clásica bien presentada. A algunos les sacas del plato del día y se pierden xD.
La gente hoy en dia se queja de cualquier cosa. Esto si es comida española. No hay nada peor que interpretar que la cocina española solo es el plato tradicional de tasca…
Greek, Italian, French, Spanish and that’s pretty much it for great European food, if you don’t count Turkey as Europe that is and Portugal while not bad, I don’t think is as outstanding as the previous ones.

Tenerife has amazing Spanish food, if you dare to leave the southern touristic areas and head to the Northern towns (La Laguna, Sauzal, Orotava Valley, Garachico etc.)

Por mencionar algunas: el puchero canario (delicioso por cierto), las papas arrugas, los mojos, pescados riquisimos como por ejemplo la morena frita al estilo canario (que solo la he comido en canarias y es deliciosa mientras que en peninsula siempre la he visto en salsa y no me gusta su sabor), el queso de cabra canario rebozado y frito con miel de palma o mermelada de tunos, el almogrote, el caldo cabra o el caldo pescado, las lapas (que en peninsula casi no se comen en ningun lado), el escaldon de gofio, las viejas sancochadas, el sancocho de cherne, el guiso de cabra, el conejo en salmorejo, la carne de fiesta.... y tantos más. Que conste que no soy canaria, si no vasca, pero hay que reconocer la gastronomia de Canarias porque es también muy rica.

I'm from Galicia and I'm not very convinced about the menu... Those rations were really small compared to galician ones (only one croqueta per person? that's hardly an appetizer!), and most of the recipes were a too exotic from my perspective... Some pulpo a feira or gambas al ajillo, jamón serrano or cecina de vaca with olive oil, croquetas de jamón, and a spoon recipe like paella, cocido, or fabada, would have been more like it...
A a southern spaniard i felt when the two young lads loved the tuna so much, barbate tuna is so good cured, seared and some people eat it raw, it is a pricey product too and very demanded specially in Japan. it is actually very difficult to get your hands on the best almadraba tuna.

I wasn’t very confident with the selection of customers as I feared they would not find this new taste good at all. When someone has been so used to eating for the sake of it, I wonder If they are capable of further appreciation. I am Spanish, love food and I have been to many Michelin stars restaurants but I have to admit that sometimes I am overwhelmed with taste and I think unless you are a professional or a sybarite it’s difficult to enjoy this dishes as they probably deserve.
If you had compared your Michelin star chef to a British takeaway then the contest isn't fair. Why not compare it with British Michelin star food? Then you'd be making sense.
After the La Casa de Galicia or La Estrella de Papel arrives another Estrella Galicia commercial. No discussion about Estrella Galicia is one of the best Spanish beers but being the brand present in every Spanish movie and Tvshow it makes me question about my taste in beer is biassed. It's a good beer, but I don't understand how it's taken over in most of Spain in a matter of only 10 years. When I left Spain in 2014 I didn't even know it existed! I only discovered it when I went to a place in Shoreditch (London) where most customers were Spanish, Italian and Portuguese (it was a table football place), so most of their beers were from these three countries, and they had LOTS of different beers. Then, in one of my visits to my hometown (south east Spain) I saw one bar that offered it and they had all their terrace furniture promoting it (in Spain it's very common to make a deal with a specific beer and in exchange they give terrace tables, chairs, the bar's sign, etc., promoting that beer). I can only think of some billionaire bought Estrella Galicia a decade ago and spent good money promoting it everywhere...

@@mariar.6741 Estrella Galicia me gusta, y entiendo que cuando la anuncian en el extranjero (como UK, en este caso) es porque ponen buena pasta de su bolsillo para la promoción y porque seguramente venga en un "pack" de distribución de otras cervezas extranjeras (es algo que se ve mucho en UK), pero lo que es dentro de España me sorprende bastante esa repentina popularidad que ha llegado, ni más ni menos, que a la punta opuesta de España, como es Murcia, a pesar de tener nosotros Estrella de Levante, está igualmente buena y a mejor precio. A veces es un tema de promoción agresiva (que si la cerveza no estuviera buena, obviamente no terminaría de cuajar por más promoción que se le hiciera).

Not at all, that's food you can eat at most restaurants here. A high end restaurant has much more complex food than that. I am used to go to Michelin star restaurants.
@@georgezee5173 A large majority of Spaniards are good at cooking, at least if we compare them with the majority of English people. The products in Spanish houses are of the same quality, and quite similar although they are not as well presented. The tuna is the most sophisticated part if we compare it to homemade food, but many people also make it that way, marinated for a few days, in their own home. In the north of Spain, this type of innovation may be more normal, but it is true that in Spain people cook similar to this in homes when there is an important dinner or meal (Christmas, celebrations, etc.). Not so common for a Monday after work, that's true.
The irony is the UK has a very open palate. You can push your age old tropes but I don’t see the UK as entirely close minded and Spain the complete opposite, despite the comforting belief that this idea must be to some.
That's simply not true, mate. Spaniard living in London for a decade here. I've met too many Brits that while visiting my country they never bothered to try any of our food. Visiting a country and not even trying their food (at least once), even if that country's food is not that great, is quite sad. Too many Brits just go for the safest option while abroad and will just order stuff that they would expect in a pub.

@@mcc5901Well to put it bluntly the reason why the UK has an ‘open palate’ is because the Brits themselves love cuisines from neighbouring countries and ex-colonies just as much if not more than what is historically their own food, to the point where some of those foreign cuisines have become a staple part of life and taken on their own identities within the UK (e.g. Indian and Chinese takeout not the same as the authentic dishes from said countries, and so on). A major part of that is down to those subsections of the UK demographic with roots in the ex-colonies and overseas territories sustaining their own cuisines within Britain, and then the rest of the UK picked up on certain flavours and dishes and things developed from there on out. By the way, a Gastro Pub isn’t a cuisine. You can have multiple cuisines on display in a Gastro Pub, including Spanish or Spanish-inspired dishes. It is usually a lovely place to eat at and a successful business model I’ll give you that, but it is not a cuisine. Spaniards visiting London are also more likely to eat at a Gastro Pub or restaurant on the high street (or at their hotel) that serves pretty much anything and everything mainstream in British cuisine, much more so than the likelihood of say a Brit visiting Magaluf or Benidorm eating at a traditional Mesón or an authentic Tapas bar. Most of them will go to the British pub and eat the stereotypical food we all know about. Does historically authentic British food have some bangin’ dishes? Absolutely, but it’s not an extensive list compared to other cuisines. Do we need to get our feathers ruffled over some light-hearted TV bit and start churning out the anecdotal evidence and sweeping generalisations? Probably not. Besides, what the f*ck is wrong with fresh fruit anyway? Like where have you been having postre where there aren’t any other options available? 😂 Every Spanish restaurant that I’ve ever been to under the sun usually has Flan, Crema Catalana, Pan de Calatrava, Almond cakes or other traditional desserts as alternatives. No wonder you’re on edge. 😂

There’s some odd editing going on there because in the clip at the beginning he asks “what comes to mind when you are thinking of Spanish food?” they then cut to a close up where she lists foods that are not Spanish. At 6.05 the question has now changed to “what kind of food did you sample when you were there?” He asked 2 different questions and used the same clip to answer them both. The guy seemed to be have a passive aggressive chip on his shoulder

I wasn’t very confident with the selection of customers as I feared they would not find this new taste good at all. When someone has been so used to eating for the sake of it, I wonder If they are capable of further appreciation.
I am Spanish, love food and I have been to many Michelin stars restaurants but I have to admit that sometimes I am overwhelmed with taste and I think unless you are a professional or a sybarite it’s difficult to enjoy this dishes as they probably deserve.

After the La Casa de Galicia or La Estrella de Papel arrives another Estrella Galicia commercial. No discussion about Estrella Galicia is one of the best Spanish beers but being the brand present in every Spanish movie and Tvshow it makes me question about my taste in beer is biassed. Estrella hasta en la sopa.
It's a good beer, but I don't understand how it's taken over in most of Spain in a matter of only 10 years. When I left Spain in 2014 I didn't even know it existed! I only discovered it when I went to a place in Shoreditch (London) where most customers were Spanish, Italian and Portuguese (it was a table football place), so most of their beers were from these three countries, and they had LOTS of different beers. Then, in one of my visits to my hometown (south east Spain) I saw one bar that offered it and they had all their terrace furniture promoting it (in Spain it's very common to make a deal with a specific beer and in exchange they give terrace tables, chairs, the bar's sign, etc., promoting that beer). I can only think of some billionaire bought Estrella Galicia a decade ago and spent good money promoting it everywhere...

@@mariar.6741 Estrella Galicia me gusta, y entiendo que cuando la anuncian en el extranjero (como UK, en este caso) es porque ponen buena pasta de su bolsillo para la promoción y porque seguramente venga en un "pack" de distribución de otras cervezas extranjeras (es algo que se ve mucho en UK), pero lo que es dentro de España me sorprende bastante esa repentina popularidad que ha llegado, ni más ni menos, que a la punta opuesta de España, como es Murcia, a pesar de tener nosotros Estrella de Levante, está igualmente buena y a mejor precio. A veces es un tema de promoción agresiva (que si la cerveza no estuviera buena, obviamente no terminaría de cuajar por más promoción que se le hiciera).

Not at all, that's food you can eat at most restaurants here. A high end restaurant has much more complex food than that. I am used to go to Michelin star restaurants.
@@georgezee5173 A large majority of Spaniards are good at cooking, at least if we compare them with the majority of English people. The products in Spanish houses are of the same quality, and quite similar although they are not as well presented. The tuna is the most sophisticated part if we compare it to homemade food, but many people also make it that way, marinated for a few days, in their own home. In the north of Spain, this type of innovation may be more normal, but it is true that in Spain people cook similar to this in homes when there is an important dinner or meal (Christmas, celebrations, etc.). Not so common for a Monday after work, that's true.

The irony is the UK has a very open palate. You can push your age old tropes but I don’t see the UK as entirely close minded and Spain the complete opposite, despite the comforting belief that this idea must be to some.
That's simply not true, mate. Spaniard living in London for a decade here. I've met too many Brits that while visiting my country they never bothered to try any of our food. Visiting a country and not even trying their food (at least once), even if that country's food is not that great, is quite sad. Too many Brits just go for the safest option while abroad and will just order stuff that they would expect in a pub.

@@mcc5901Well to put it bluntly the reason why the UK has an ‘open palate’ is because the Brits themselves love cuisines from neighbouring countries and ex-colonies just as much if not more than what is historically their own food, to the point where some of those foreign cuisines have become a staple part of life and taken on their own identities within the UK (e.g. Indian and Chinese takeout not the same as the authentic dishes from said countries, and so on). A major part of that is down to those subsections of the UK demographic with roots in the ex-colonies and overseas territories sustaining their own cuisines within Britain, and then the rest of the UK picked up on certain flavours and dishes and things developed from there on out.
By the way, a Gastro Pub isn’t a cuisine. You can have multiple cuisines on display in a Gastro Pub, including Spanish or Spanish-inspired dishes. It is usually a lovely place to eat at and a successful business model I’ll give you that, but it is not a cuisine.
Spaniards visiting London are also more likely to eat at a Gastro Pub or restaurant on the high street (or at their hotel) that serves pretty much anything and everything mainstream in British cuisine, much more so than the likelihood of say a Brit visiting Magaluf or Benidorm eating at a traditional Mesón or an authentic Tapas bar. Most of them will go to the British pub and eat the stereotypical food we all know about.
Does historically authentic British food have some bangin’ dishes? Absolutely, but it’s not an extensive list compared to other cuisines. Do we need to get our feathers ruffled over some light-hearted TV bit and start churning out the anecdotal evidence and sweeping generalisations? Probably not.
Besides, what the f*ck is wrong with fresh fruit anyway? Like where have you been having postre where there aren’t any other options available? 😂 Every Spanish restaurant that I’ve ever been to under the sun usually has Flan, Crema Catalana, Pan de Calatrava, Almond cakes or other traditional desserts as alternatives. No wonder you’re on edge. 😂

La cocina española es por supuesto la paella, pero también la fabada, el cocido, los huevos con chorizo, el bacalao al pil-pil, unas migas de pan, el gazpacho manchego y el andaluz, el salmorejo, la caldereta de pescado, las fabes con almejas, el jamón ibérico, la escudella catalana, una papas a lo pobre y un largo larguísimo y extensísimo etcétera....Esto son tontás en un plato que por supuesto a un guiri le fliparán porque allí ya se sabe.....
La cocina no es sota, caballo y rey.. en España hay una cocina tradicional muy amplia, pero también es pionera en innovación y creatividad .
