What a poignant, nostalgia filled tribute to your Dad. This is more than just the hockey, it’s all the nuances of a parent/child relationship. Beautiful. ❤
I’m touched by this tribute also. I never had a dad who provided me with this kind of thing but all the same I can appreciate this tribute, it almost puts me back just those memories even though I didn’t feel them firsthand. Amazing job, you have this innate acting skill to bring moments really intimately to life because you get EVERYTHING down. The facial expressions, the speech cadence, this video makes me feel better for some reason 😅 amazing at what you do, hope you keep sharing it and keeping it up for as long as it feels good for you too. Appreciate and inspired by your take on life 🏑
“I gotta get ready for work”. As a kid, you never realise the extra sacrifice that parents often make, and it only becomes clear to you as an adult. Glad you put that part in there. I’m sorry for your loss Austen. I lost someone I was close to earlier this year and know that your videos brought me moments of joy on many sad days. Beautiful tribute.
Dude, as a guy that didn't grow up with a father. Hearing you -your dad- sing that song while driving hit me in the feels pretty hard. The idea of having a father his sternness with clear pride and love for his son sounds...amazing. Super happy you got to experience it and that you used his teachings to form you into the man you are today. May your father rest easy. Hope you're doing well moving forward with your life.
Not really relevant but its pretty interesting how I saw the "The idea of having a father his sternness with clear pride and love for his son sounds...amazing" as a negative, I assumed it was pushing expectations to make a child do what they dont want. Refreshing to actually finally understand its only negative in my eyes and expectations like that can really benefit me or anyone
That’s the job of a father, man. You love your kids more than anything, but you’ve gotta be there to try to keep them on the straight and narrow and push them to achieve the potential you know they have
@@stonesage1586that’s the thing about guys who didn’t grow up with a dad, as one myself, you actually end up craving that part of a father the most as you grow up. You wished you had a stern father who broke your balls & made you do shit you didn’t wanna do bc it built character. And don’t even get me started on being coached 1 on 1 like that with your father? Like as a kid you see it as work & you keep doing bc you see the results but you get older and you look back on it the way this guy did. But also good on you for seeking a different perspective & being able to admit that you saw it in a different light at first. 🤘🏼
I couldn't relate to this at all. My dad would drop me off at little league basketball once a week, only to sleep in the car until I'm done. He came in once in 3 years to watch a game and looked bored as ever. It doesn't even hurt, I'm just empty.
Very well done, and the subtle “I’ve gotta get ready for work” really hit home. My father passed as well and this reminded me a lot of him, thank you 🙏🏼
This video rocks in so many ways. It’s funny, genuinely had me dying laughing. I’ve known many dads like that. But it’s also really touching. Lots of dads will go so far out of there way for their kids and then go to work for an entire day. It’s brutal and the memories are what we have left. I hope you cherish those memories of your father. When my mother passed I am thankful I had memories to cherish as well. Peace.
The nuance of the interpersonal relationships mixed with the comedy mixed with the reality brings tears and laughter simultaneously. Ur dad would be proud brother💪💪💪💪💪 sorry for ur loss man. Keep bringing the heat to keep ur dads energy alive
My father died of a heart attack, which didn't exactly come out of the blue but we didn't think the end would come so quickly. At least he went fast, without a lot of pain. But I always wish I had at least one more conversation with him. So many questions that will never be answered. But my now teenage son plays select-level hockey and all I can do is support him the way your dad supported you.
Rest in peace to your father. This touching, true, and as much as you “find it hard” as a kid you realize how much he was doing now that you are an adult. Perfectly executed as a comedic scene, true video that many of us can relate to, and a lasting memory towards your father’s legacy. God bless. 🙏
The saddest part of life is that it is finite. And I feel that the death of a parent is extra heartbreaking, since they've been there literally your whole life, the first people you met and the ones that taught you the essentials of how to human. But this video is forever. And a beautiful tribute to him and his effort to enstil discipline, determination, and routine while spending quality time with his child. I've learnt that people making time (even if it meant before work in this case) shows real love, since it's one of the most precious things we have. Though I know that as a child it's hella painful to have to wake up that early. 😅 I'm very sorry for your loss, I feel like death always comes as a surprise, no matter how much we expect it. And I hope you take as much time as you want/need to process this. But besides the memories, the values he's left you with are the most valuable gifts he could have given you. And those are forever. 💚
His boy is knocking us dead. Thanks for bringing some many of us joy through your work. You are upholding his legacy, and I’m sure he’s proud. Your family is in all of our prayers. Into paradise, may the angels lead him.

Hi Austin. May your old man rest in peace. He sounded like an absolute beauty. Your impression is nails. I’ve been lucky to have coached all 3 of my kids and the morning pep talks are what legends are made out of. Great videos bro.

I love your videos and content. Sorry for your loss. The love that is shown here is remarkable. My father never went to my games, practices anything. Always paid a parent on the team to take me. So in hardship there is comfort in knowing just the extent of his love to you. Tip of the bucket to your dad, a real one.
The frim but caring feelings that you dont understand when your young. This tribute was on another level. I am glad you had this experience and also realize how important it was.
Steel cuts and pb. Man, that hits me with a nostalgia. When grandad and dad take me to hike or fishing at the break of dawn, they just put steel cut oats in microwave and put a gigantic spoon of pb in and start to munch it down like hungry bulls. I still remember the textures of undercooked steel cuts.
This is the love of a father. You can feel it. Sorry to hear about your Dad, but I’m sure he taught you well and gave you the drive you need. Thanks for sharing this tribute.
It's these moments that pass us by so quickly and subtly as they happen, but collectively they become the backbone of the greater memory of the relationship we had with the person we're missing or that we lost. Here's to all that have gone before us, and to us when we've gone, too.
What a beautiful tribute. As a former hockey kid who lost his dad during the season, this video helped bring back some very fond memories for me. I’m sorry for your loss and I know how bad it hurts. But thank you for helping me to take the time and reminisce on the same experiences that I shared with my father like you did with yours. God Bless.
