Exactly! He must be doing it just for Content for the page. I can't imagine anybody just jumping in an auction car that they know is low on coolant and has other issues and just trying to put it on the road. P.S redo the whole cooling system once one part fails the others aren’t far behind

This guy KILLS ME !!!! He has a truck and a tow dolly, pack the truck with tools, water, air tank, booster pack, a filled 2 gallon fuel can, jack, etc. Plus I would never run my business by asking the general public "What should I do" or how I should spend my money.
Anytime my e39 temp would creep just above the half i shut it down quick and towed it. I'd have a heart attack if mine hit the red, i can't imagine driving it that long on red your a trooper. E39s are amazing machines. Thank you for taking a chance on this one.
"THAT'S A DAMN TURKEY!!!" 😭😭😭🤣🤣🤣🤣 EDIT: If those rims are original, I would perhaps replace them with some replica stock rims, fix a few things to make it run reliably, sell the expensive rims separately and then send it down the road. At the end of the day, it's all about how much meat will be left on the bone after you fix it.
Looks like a good project car. Just remember that a low or dead battery in these will put the gearbox in 'limp mode' and cause all sorts of warning lights and malfunctioning windows, door locks, wipers, etc. Fix the battery and coolant before making a judgment on anything else. Why would you drive it without coolant? Send your partner to buy some coolant or water before you drive it home.
FYI the proper bleeder valve is right next to the coolant cap. Crack it open with it running and wait for coolant to flow without bubbles, might have to do it a few times.
Just like Derek said, Toyota, Honda and sport cars are hard to find good deals on at auctions. Some people really overbid at auctions which ruins the purpose
Newer Honda and toyotas bring in a lot $$$ at auctions! Same with newer vehicles, which we never see as well. Unfortunately, alot of the older toyotas and honda were shit and so were their engines!
@46:40 What is the name of this channel? Auto = you have a car, a '97 528i e39 Auction = you got it at an auction Rebuilds = need I say more? I am here for rebuilds, not just buys and sells
Please save this beamer, those older 5 series are one of the best BMW's ever made. Those AC Schnitzer rims should be a fortune to the right buyer. The cooling system in general is a known problem on those M52 engines. Good idea to run through the whole system. It should be a score with those miles.
Its because the speedometer wasnt working, usually when the speedo doesnt work the odometer wont count either because it doesnt know the car is moving.
DODO I don’t think that’s his issue, while they are known to go out cause of heat created by the exhaust he would have what’s called a trifecta (ABS,brake and dsc) since he only has the abs and dsc lights on it’s more than likely the left rear sensor
@Auto Auction Rebuilds - I love import motor cars. I have had my share and am currently in one - even my son is driving a BMW. I don't know the market where you are. Thank you for sharing your adventures with us. 👍
You have no idea what ur doing on an e39 if you have to ask "where is the coolant at" . It could have been a decent driver if you approached it correctly. Those cars are super simple and run great when taken care of. The most important thing is to never let it overheat.
Definitely start with a fresh battery. It's probably just getting low voltage to all the modules and throwing a lot of codes because of it. If the modules don't have enough "juice", it could definitely make the car do some crazy things.
Lately you've been so lucky with your content and have successfully navigated through the bad ones that I had to go back to older content for some actual drama !!!

Except mine my speedometer would work in the morning when I first started up the car and I had tons of power but then once that speedometer stopped working it going to limp mode
If only there was a way to get a car to your repair shop without actually driving it. Maybe use a large vehicle (say, a pickup) with some platform on wheels connected to the rear bumper so the car “trails” the pickup wherever it goes. We’ll call it a TRAILER! GAME CHANGER!
That's a great deal. Pick up your parts as cheap as possible - but I'd first do the battery, door handle, cooling, oil and boot struts. This car is a survivor. The interior is good, so it might clean up really well all round. Check head, plugs, wiring, suspension, mounts, exhaust, all the other bits, reset the ecu, do your usual to see if it's worth going further. Thinking about it, I'd keep the AC Schnitzers as they are a selling point for the car and look good, it will be less hassle.
This brought back memories of winter 1993 when I took an overheating RX-7 (later learned was Apex seals) from Ohio to FL. Didn’t start overheating until halfway down GA. I was 20 years old and still didn’t let it run this long in the red. But I am always completely entertained and hate BMW, so 10/10 would watch again.
Yes brother ! When buying an e39, have to overhaul the cooling system. Change that water pump as the OEM ones have a plastic impeller. Have to lift the front of the car to bleed the system. The spare tire In back is a 16" BBS wheel. The 17" two piece BBS wheels off the Sport trim are the desirable ones. The ones on the car now are very desirable. Check out WATCH JRGO. HE recently fixed a few things on his e39.
23 Year Old BMW; make it drive-able, no heavy investments just get it running. Door latch, used radiator, or tank repair from a radiator shop. Replace the thermostat. A good cleaning and send it down the road.
*dude a $300.00 car the fact that you were able to start it at all beyond anything else it's well worth your time still. clean the thing up really good and swap the battery and get a new radiator for it, clean the engine. Then if you're going to throw a $300.00 Maaco paint job on it and post it up for $2,500.00 shouldn't have any trouble getting rid of it at that price once everything is done properly you may want to check the end of the Speedometer cable where it plugs into the transmission tail shaft the gear for the speed may just need to be replaced. Thanks though, seeing this and what it needs is getting me motivated to get out and work on my new Escalade project today, i needed this i think* WHEN DID YOU EVER REALLY HALF ASS A CAR WITH THIS MUCH POTENTIAL? Not a fan of Lucky's he is a great guy buy i don't appreciate how he half asses everything he gets. that may be his hustle, i just can't watch that. Do it right, do it all or just plain don't do it, PERIOD!
Old European cars if properly maintained, are amazing and reliable. However if they're not taken care of they are NIGHTMARES. since they can be bought so cheap, a lot of people buy them who can't afford to maintain them which leads to these cars falling into disrepair
Hey Randy. I had the same car. Battery voltage is so low the transmission will be in limb mode. Also when u fill up the coolant make sure you fill the water thermostat fill up screw behind the clutch fan. Otherwise you will never purge the system and it will keep over hearing. And from the looks of it ur fan clutch might needs replacing its spinning way too weak
When I click your videos Randy that 5 seconds I have to wait to skip the first add I take those 5 seconds to always hit that like button every time! Thanks for the entertainment. 👍
I still own that same car for over 13 years identical. Mine now has over 270K and still going strong. That speedometer problem is probably the wheel speed sensor right front or right rear I think. I had that problem and the sensors fixed it. It will also affect the shifting of the transmission. Replace the expansion tank with the radiator because they are known weak points in the cooling system. Mine has been reliable except for the problems with the speed sensors and, of course; the failing window regulators. Good luck!! By the way; you have the upgraded seats like mine. They are actually same as in the 7-series.
I took a break from Luckys Wheelz n Dealz because my brain glossed over with boredom from watching him buy endless Chevy Malibus, Impalas, Cobalts, and other boring vanilla crap. On a newer car I turn on the A/C to get the electric fans to come on.
Mexican Spec yeh that’s right and if you want to prevent overheating, transfer the fan to work directly from the engine. This means that the fan will never turn of and nobody will ever know the car is overheating as the fan is always on.
Transmission problems would all be fixed with a new battery, weak battery 🔋 will make it run like crap.
I would bring the car dolly and tow it back instead of trying to drive the cars back. Just saying
Exactly! He must be doing it just for Content for the page. I can't imagine anybody just jumping in an auction car that they know is low on coolant and has other issues and just trying to put it on the road. Safest thing to do with older cars like that is to just tow it home and then check it good, instead of just putting it on the highway without even making sure the basic fluids are filled
And then he blames the car
@@toddhodges4405 he literally said in the video that he didn't blame the car lol
He had a trailer someone stole it
@@thadd05 He had a trailer, someone stole it, he got it back and the sold it. Since then, he bought a car dolly and used it a few times. Haven't seen or heard of it recently. Maybe he got rid of that too and I missed it.
Owned a handful of e39s, those AC’s if real are worth $$$ also reason why your ac is not working is cause you ambient temperature sensor is missing. Scan that check engine light if it’s a faulty speed sensor it will cause your speedo to not work and put the trans in limp mode. P.S redo the whole cooling system once one part fails the others aren’t far behind
Can't deal with this stupidity anymore 😂😂
Jesse Gardiner what do you mean?
TheCamshafter nah not even close lol
me too I unsubbed awhile ago but it came up in my feed so I saw bmw and said wth give it one more watch ....wtf, Randy couldnt find his own ass with a funnel, let alone rebuild a car.. btw it needs a clutch fan too I saw it at start.
Jesse Gardiner Exactly like when you see the gauge says it’s overheating you should stop immediately. Not keep driving till it dies.

You are ridiculous. Such a drama queen. Pays a couple hundred dollars for a car, tries to take it on a road trip, complains the whole way.....
Watching this is like Deja Vu for me... I had a 1997 528i that did the EXACT SAME THING!!! It spent more time on a trailer than it did on the road.
I Like the collab with lucky, I always enjoy his content.
Great deal. Replace the the cooling system, change all fluids and filters, new battery, tires and go from there. Content Gold!.. Lol!!
The first time you started it up I noticed the heater set to 90 degrees. Sure sign the former owner was battling overheating issues.
This guy KILLS ME !!!! He has a truck and a tow dolly, pack the truck with tools, water, air tank, booster pack, a filled 2 gallon fuel can, jack, etc. Plus I would never run my business by asking the general public "What should I do" or how I should spend my money.
I'm really glad you put this video up ,great content as always, thanks !!😀
Anytime my e39 temp would creep just above the half i shut it down quick and towed it. I'd have a heart attack if mine hit the red, i can't imagine driving it that long on red your a trooper. E39s are amazing machines. Thank you for taking a chance on this one.
Steve Kaphingst I agree, he maybe just killed the engine with his drive home. Hope not though, the car looks nice otherwise.
"THAT'S A DAMN TURKEY!!!" 😭😭😭🤣🤣🤣🤣
EDIT: If those rims are original, I would perhaps replace them with some replica stock rims, fix a few things to make it run reliably, sell the expensive rims separately and then send it down the road.
At least it can’t deprecate any more. 🤷♂️
FYI the proper bleeder valve is right next to the coolant cap. Crack it open with it running and wait for coolant to flow without bubbles, might have to do it a few times.
Save that old girl Randy.
You’ll thank yourself after. She’ll take good care of you.
🤣
Do it right Randy. You’ll get your money back plus more. 🇺🇸🇦🇸 ✌️
I'd do the cooling system and, if running properly, do the door handle and sell it as a mechanics special.
I second the cooling system. It was the first thing I did to my 330ci.
Glenn Stiller I second the notion on a mechanic special. I would even consider looking for a hardcore BMW enthusiast who would restore it.
You never see Randy buying Toyotas , must be due to the Corolla virus 🙄
They go high at the auctions
Just like Derek said, Toyota, Honda and sport cars are hard to find good deals on at auctions. Some people really overbid at auctions which ruins the purpose
Toyota's are shit cars that are boring to drive
@@medoutube1 they probably overbid in order to keep it for themselves
Newer Honda and toyotas bring in a lot $$$ at auctions! Same with newer vehicles, which we never see as well. Unfortunately, alot of the older toyotas and honda were shit and so were their engines!
@46:40 What is the name of this channel?
Auto = you have a car, a '97 528i e39
Auction = you got it at an auction
Rebuilds = need I say more?
I am here for rebuilds, not just buys and sells
Like TK said, BMW=Bring My Wallet. Good luck with it.
Please save this beamer, those older 5 series are one of the best BMW's ever made. Those AC Schnitzer rims should be a fortune to the right buyer. The cooling system in general is a known problem on those M52 engines. Good idea to run through the whole system. It should be a score with those miles.
The odometer isn’t working it was showing the same mileage since you left IAA
I noticed that too. Probably has way more than 143k miles.
The speedometer is not working either which is probably caused by the speed sensor
Its because the speedometer wasnt working, usually when the speedo doesnt work the odometer wont count either because it doesnt know the car is moving.
B M W stands for buy more warranty because brother you are going to need it
The wheel speed sensor is most probably gone bad, that's the reason your Speedo is not working, just scan the car after you change the 🔋
Had this same car and when my wheel sensor went bad it caused the trans to go into limp mode
Nope, usually the abs pump, the electrical part on it
DODO I don’t think that’s his issue, while they are known to go out cause of heat created by the exhaust he would have what’s called a trifecta (ABS,brake and dsc) since he only has the abs and dsc lights on it’s more than likely the left rear sensor
@Auto Auction Rebuilds - I love import motor cars. I have had my share and am currently in one - even my son is driving a BMW.
I don't know the market where you are. And although I am inclined to say fix it I know it is never good to make such decisions from emotion.
Whichever way you decide to head in I will enjoy watching the support video of that next step. Thank you for sharing your adventures with us. 👍
Donate this car to the fire department for training. lol
When the car overheats turn the heat on full blast !
You have no idea what ur doing on an e39 if you have to ask "where is the coolant at" . It could have been a decent driver if you approached it correctly. Those cars are super simple and run great when taken care of. The most important thing is to never let it overheat.
Randy, you bought a old use car for almost nothing stop with the Drama.
Definitely start with a fresh battery. It's probably just getting low voltage to all the modules and throwing a lot of codes because of it. If the modules don't have enough "juice", it could definitely make the car do some crazy things.
Well that was just one great journey wasn’t it 😂. Thanks for the content and stay both you and yours stay safe and stay well
Lately you've been so lucky with your content and have successfully navigated through the bad ones that I had to go back to older content for some actual drama !!!
You just increase the price by 10 percent by pitting in 35 dollar of fuel :)
Scary stuff on the drive home, but the car definitely has potential. I look forward to seeing more videos featuring it.
Just buy a flatbed for the love of god🤦🏻♂️

@@lsmith4817 being on the side of the road at fun and it ant safe... i agreee. he heeds a tow truck.. well he has a truck and trailer already...
@@lawnside82 yes he does but throwing a car on a dolly and towing it home is poor content (as per Randy's own statement) personally when I was buying cars as a purchaser for a car lot I drove the best of the ones I bought and towed the others via car haulers but we were buying 10- 35 cars at a time . Randy prefers driving a cheap purchase home to see if it makes it if it ends up being junk he makes the money back via videos (BESIDES IT IS HIS $$ LET HIM SPEND IT AS HE DECIDES)
If I was running a business as he is I would not waste my time fucking with a car like this on the shoulder of the road ! The content should be fixing the car not driving it into the ground first!
The AC Schnitzer is one of the first companies who makes quality BMW’s after market parts for decades and these wheels are AC Schnitzer type 2 which introduced in early 90s even this design came with the matching driving wheel.these are worth around $500 ( give or take ) because they are 16 inches but as you mentioned first you have to make sure that they are OEM. Either way I love and respect what you do just keep doing that great work and stay safe and healthy.huge like
It takes a special kind of idiot to collect a car with a Tesla, when they have a pick-up and dolly at home
Part of Randy's MO is to drive them straight from the auction yard...not pussy them home on a trailer.
I love the E39 so much! I have an E39 M5 myself and I will never go a day without having at least one E39 in my garage!
This video was like old "Road Kill" episode ;O)

Bad sign when you saw turkeys crossing in front of a turkey BMW.
I don't know, the parent turkeys shepherded their chick over the road safely.
I have a E39 BMW 525 2001 model which has given me trouble free motoring. Absolutely a wonderful car. The original battery lasted me about 10 years. I hope you haven't blown the head gasket.
Todays content brought to you by the letter T. We saw a Tesla, turkeys, trees and a whole lot of trouble.
Love it!!!! Just bring it back and give it some paint!!!! Can’t wait to see these videos... make it drivable for a good cross country trip , I’ll come get it
Except mine my speedometer would work in the morning when I first started up the car and I had tons of power but then once that speedometer stopped working it going to limp mode
Use car hauler instead of messing around. U have 1.
Thanks for Corona content Randy so the rims are AC Schnitzer made for alot of German/European cars'
This brought back memories of winter 1993 when I took an overheating RX-7 (later learned was Apex seals) from Ohio to FL. Didn’t start overheating until halfway down GA. I was 20 years old and still didn’t let it run this long in the red. But I am always completely entertained and hate BMW, so 10/10 would watch again.
yeah those AC Schnitzer wheels are worth money if real. Prob around $1K if all completel
Will probably need a new viscose fan clutch aswell
On my list of parts :)
As people says: “There’s nothing more expensive than a cheap BMW”. What did you expect for less than 200 dollars?
Wheels will pay for the car 4x over. Some E39 enthusiast will buy those in a heart beat cause I used to have one and would have.
Yes brother ! When buying an e39, have to overhaul the cooling system. Change that water pump as the OEM ones have a plastic impeller. Have to lift the front of the car to bleed the system. The spare tire
In back is a 16" BBS wheel. The 17" two piece BBS wheels off the Sport trim are the desirable ones. The ones on the car now are very desirable. Check out WATCH JRGO. HE recently fixed a few things on his e39.
I would've towed it
i dont understand why he "trust" these cars to drive home. when he has a truck and trailer....
Said on his last live..thinks "interesting content". Not to me.
Nailed it .
BMWs from that era dont have bad paint. I've had a bunch of e39s and e38s that never had clear coat issues.
Makes a funny video though, broken radiator and broken battery. What did your wife think of this on the road home?😅 Did you sell the dolly?
You have a truck and a dolly to tow home the cheap cars
Hows it going Randy tk knows a lot about BMWs
That's why they call em Lucky!! Your lucky he's there.
Your thermostat is shot besides having a hole in the system.
Randy keep it going... through all trials... Good Deal! no matter what.

When I click your videos Randy that 5 seconds I have to wait to skip the first add I take those 5 seconds to always hit that like button every time! Thanks for the entertainment. 👍
Another steam engine bmw🤣
He has all ingredients for a successful channel but his car choices aren't condusive to fun viewing. That's why I keep watching every AAR video that comes out
Wow Randy!!!I hope it is only problems with the cooling system, and not a head gasket problem!!!Good luck!!!
Does that have electric cooling fans,if so why did they not turn on.Again good luck!!!
Those rims are rare AC Schnitzer Type II rims, which cost around $1000!
Man your commentary is just priceless love watching your videos. God bless. Stay safe
The car is misfiring and he thinks it’s the trans hahaha. Get a scanner: change the coil packs and spark plugs. Always fill the car all the way with coolant/water before you drive any e39. Owned one for 6 years sold it for a perfect r230 SL500
