I was overwhelmed by the Skyscale unlock process at first, and even put it off for a months because of how daunting it seemed. But after actually doing it, it really wasn't that bad, and the mount is TOTALLY worth the grind!

@@vidya2144 Jump with bunny, use Bond of Faith from the Crystal Champion Mastery track to jump off bunny in air. thereafter mount on Griffon mid air to start from a higher up position then you would had if you just used the normal wing flap from the Griffon.
Thats what i did given i at the time had no living world content when i had griffon. That changed when it became all content free this year. I never had the skill for the bunny trick but i found the griffon came in handy to avoid needing springer so much for skyscale quest.
For a new player, skyscale, even with its grind, is more accessible since 250 gold is quite the the cost on top of everything else I had to pay for that was higher priority, like getting full ascended for fractals
Also, it will allow you to master griffon flying and tricks while you unlock your skyscale. Since I’ve unlocked skyscale I barely use griffon at all now. Mostly when I’m diving down into the beginning of the octovine meta event lol
the thing for Griffon is that you'll take some time to get it and more time to learn it, while with Skyscale you'll take all that same time just to get it and afterwards you don't really need to learn any mechanics, just fly. if you like having fun you should get the Griffon, the questline is a lot easier and using it is not only fun but easy if you use some of your time to learn the mechanics properly, while Skyscale has a harder questline (that I doubt anyone finds it fun) and you'll just fly around with some more versatility since it's easier to learn (if you're like me and enjoy fun and speed you might become bored of it soon, but that's just my opinion)
Yeah, I agree. I suppose the Skyscale has a wider variety of combat abilities now, but the mobility just isn't there. Also having to swap off it to stay in the air for long periods of time doesn't do the skyscale any favors.
Just got the griffon, and while I certainly like it, I wasn’t terribly impressed at first, but I did notice I (being a complete griffon noob and not owning a skyscale) could outpace other people flying the skyscale pretty readily. That being said, I saw some videos of people that got the three griffon masteries and they show the griffon tearing up the place like a cheetah in heat. So my next task is to learn to fly the griffon the way it’s meant to be flown!!
Griffon can stay in the air forever too, just need to dive and pull up a lot. Takes a lot of practice, but you can maintain your original height forever.
You can also gain infinite hight by quickly swapping between gliding and griffon. Even easyer with jade bot but also works without. It's very tideous though.
Also, as a condi thief main, i would also add that skyscale is the only mount whose attack ability leaves a combo field, which is great if you are loaded with finishers. The fire field adds an incredible burst to the initials condi dd burst
1:10 that's false you CAN maintain the altitude IF you know what you're doing with the griffon. However one thing to know is that flying the griffon takes practice.
I just use all the mounts xD I have an easy keybind for each of them so I can swap whenever I want to. I use skyscale most often but if I'm looking to go a long distance and have stuff I can climb easily, I get up high, bunny into griffon and zoom away! Griffon is so much fun! If I can't get up anywhere and it's pretty flat then I rollerbeetle, if I'm faced with a hill I jackal and water I skimmer. All depends on the terrain and where I'm trying to go. I'd say I use raptor the least these days as it's just easier for me to switch to skyscale if I have to go over a big gap
GW2 does a great job and keeping every mount relevant by giving each an advantage in certain situations. The best Thing is having all and swapping them around to Adapt.
Griffon for traversal (going places which are a bit of a distance), Skyscale for everything else, since the Stamina bar doesn't actually need a second to regen, so you can simply keep landing on objects whenever the need arises and ultimately outpace any of the other mounts. Again, this only applies when not speaking on the topic of traversal, since the Skyscale is eeeeasily outpaced by other mounts. Also, I must admit, Griffon flying is bomb af! \m/ Cheers, Tekkit! o7
i disagree. I think You should prioritize Griffon because it takes way less time to unlock. Unless you care more about gold than time in which you are better off with skyscale i believe.
@@ridespirals I got Griffon in matter of 4 vacation days, I grinded a lot but hey I'm a new player and was kinda lost with events and meta and stuff so maybe an experienced player that doesnt have Griffon can get it even faster
Get Griffon, get used to using it on land, jumping over obstacles, flying at low and high speed. Then get to dragonfall and try out the skyscale, decide that skyscale isnt worth it. Be a griffon flying chad and just do the skyscale achievements when youre bored.
If you play the game enough the Skyscale is worth it IMO, but only if you truly love the game. If you have put blood sweat and tears into multiple alts and you don't have the SS you're doing it wrong. Regardless Griffon Chad, I love the Griffon more.

I was getting my dragon, thought i was going for Skyscale. What do you know, it was Griffon. I've never cursed as hard as at that moment. Damn was i pissed. Thought they were the same thing.
Finally got the chance to try a skyscale in Dragonsfall and it is a lot more annoying than I thought it would be. I'm learning just how incredible the griffon is if you know how to use it.
skyscale with jade bot gliding ( level 1-3) can be above clouds of any map.. all maps have around 2-3 Cloud layers, but skyscale can reach at the altitude limit of any map , above the last layer of clouds is a long way to the limit Altitudes.. Skyscale is more about seeing the game's construction clearer. The griffin is for those who want adrenaline.
I use my Skyscale like a helicopter for short flying jaunts. Griffon is for getting across the map quickly if you have altitude. I use my skyscale more, generally, but Griffon isn't useless. For pure speed, I go rollerbeetle, unless the map prevents that from being efficient.
I'd say the Griffon is supernice for specific situations and the skyscale is more allround. Mostly because you can just take off from the ground and have the Bond of Vigor skill for an extra boost or 2. After getting the Skyscale first I ended up spending 250g on a mount I hardly use. Since the griffon also makes the skyscale quest a lot easier, go for that first.
Skyscale is easier to use and can fly without first gaining altitude. Griffon is far faster and can fly indefinitely if you practice first, but takes a few moments to set up if you find yourself somewhere you can't get high up. Both are good for different reasons. I guess it's like raptor vs beetle. Raptor gets the job done moving fast along the ground while beetle takes practice and is useless on a few maps.
@@dragosmunteanu2992 No I meant raptor vs beetle. When people want to travel quickly across the map they tend to use one or the other depending on if they're good at beetle driving. Jackal moves about as fast as the raptor but the raptor's extended jump can clear more distance quickly.
they aren't made for the same pupose, skyscale is for short precise movement bursts and altitude gain, griffon is for long fast travel once you gained enough altitude to boost dive they are pretty complementary
Anyone watching this and wanting the skyscale and is going to buy LW season 4 DONT. Season 3 is coming free on like June 29th, and season 4 a few weeks after!
I wish they added a toggle to the cling of the skyscale. They shortly after changed it so while you are descending it won't cling, but ironically while ascending, that's when you are pressing the button that instantly triggers wall jump, it clings anyway to the slightest touch of any surface or tree, wasting half of your stamina regardless you fully channel it or not. But after all this long it's highly unlikely they'll address it, just tell you to learn and suck it up.
I agree i got them both the griffon came in handy getting all the quest stuff for skyscale. I got lucky and got all the living world stuff free because the return to living world. To me yes the griffon has infinite flight done right. However the skyscale to me has a edge in mobility needing to not hop off griffon and then hop on springer then back on griffon.
Griffon is amazing at far travel and speed if you know how to use the booster ability correctly. Skyscale is well also good for getting to places from different locations (specifically ones you couldn't already move at high speeds too xD)
I feel like one part that was missing is that you can do cheesy things against walls with the Griffon too. Semi similar to the horse glitch running up walls in Skyrim (though not nearly as extreme as skyrim haha). Its also pretty good for just darting about semi infinitely rather than needing to peek over medium sized ledges or going through them with a different mount. Its a good mount and has been my main outside of Bunny :D

Unlocking the Skyscale was one of the most dull and longwinded gaming experiences I've ever had. If I'd known just how awful it was going to be, I probably wouldn't have started.
@@TekkitsWorkshop grind is fine, i play warframe bro lol, but gw2 is just unnecessarily overwhelming with content. u need something for something to get something and then you have to grind the games 2nd highest yet hard-to-come-by currency for days, possibly weeks, just to add it to your account of mounts. gw2 mount system is a mess if you ask me. would've been much better if all the mounts abilities were stackable mods, like sigils for weapons and runes for armour but you can only apply 3 per mount and can have 5 mounts per account, and then have like 25 difference raisable animals that you take from eggs or as babies in the wild, feed them for a set amount of time for them to mature, and then add your mods/sigils/runes to your preference. like being able to take a wyvern egg and raise it to adult, then mod it with your chosen abilities as we do our characters, but with high jumping, forward dash teleporting, flying, and many other abilities as mods you can apply to whatever animal you raise. spending days/weeks grinding a mount that doesnt even free-fly is utterly mental if you ask me.
@@north_borne its meant to be a game dude, not a full-time job. there is grind, and then there is guild wars. as a 31 year old gamer, i've never had to work so hard and unrealistically for mediocre items in my entire gaming life, like i have with guild wars. expansions are a ridiculous price for the content, so the only other option is farm gold, which in itself is a mind f*ck and struggle, even during events. i've been on mad king thorn now since the update landed, have earned about 12 gold total from selling 1 candy corn cob each time i eventually make enough candy corn to get one, and the same with the skulls and other event currencies. doing all daily T1 & T2 fractals gives you about 5 - 8 gold per day IF you sell literally everything you earn from them. game is overwhelming to say the least, but hey if you got no life and spend 15 hours a day in front of your pc, who are we to say anything? 🤨y
I finally got the skyscale and it is nice if you get good at knowing when to land to gain more height. Otherwise I still bust out the springer from time to time...I am horrible at mounts, so there's always that. lol
Although i only have griffon yet, i disagree to your recommendation of getting skyscale first. The skyscale is so much more effort than the griffon, and more expensive too. If you only wanna get skyscale then that's fine, but if you wanna get both you should definetly start with griffon.
I believe , you cannot do jumping puzzles which request for unlock skyscale.. I heard in past about players who cannot do these..or some boring stuff who don't request meta-events ..just solo type.
Gotta correct you slightly... when done right, the griffon can maintain and even gain altitude. It is a glider for most, but a true flying mount of those that master the technique.
As someone who has played off and on for over 9 years, I see a lot of players asking "Is the Griffon worth it" and I always STRONGLY say yes. Anyone who tells you otherwise has no idea what they are talking about or are genuinely hurting that players experience. It will take you a LONG time to get the Skyscale, even if you're a super freak, you wont do it fast. Not only that, but the Griffon is faster, period and I still use it often to this day. Also, once you get the Griffon a LOT of content just seems so much easier to navigate. It's not perfect, but neither is the Skyscale, they are both amazing in their own right.. but seriously get the god damn Griffon and don't even hesitate, and get it FIRST. (i know that disagree's with Tekks opinion but its just my opinion, as the Griffon is easier to get. Way easier. When you understand the ATLANTIAN TASK that lies before you of obtaining the Sky Scale, the Griffon starts sounding a lot better.)
Long time to get skyscale ? why you don't tell the truth ? you need around 3 days for skyscale.. (~6 gold) griffon need 250g or almost same price for precursor .. peoples target griffon because is more simple to use gold than to farm/ solve maps../ to do a few stupid jumping puzzles..which with bunny as mount , you can jump at them and in air with a skill from mastery to jump off in air from bunny to the end of the jumping puzzles..( I did to ~8 jumping puzzles in this way..just skip even is easy..but you know? when you can break a game..you do..)

Been playing for a year now and on my second week of playing I had skyscale, it's not hard, especially when you can buy the treats. I got my griffon week one of playing the game, ( used a boost and ran the PoF dlc) on the same Sunday I finished my griffon I jumped right into the skyscale. You make it sound so hellish, while it's definitely not a fun experience, if you can't do that quest then the game most likely isn't for you.
In which way? You need to buy Path of Fire for both of them and Griffon has an unavoidable 250 gold cost (10 purchases that cost 25 g each). The minimum gold cost for obtaining Skyscale is lower than that. I don't think it's reasonable to factor the cost of LWS4 into the price of the Skyscale. The season is a lot more than just the Skyscale.
I don't have all expansion but i like to believe Griffon starts shining when you do! Why do i say this? Well, the ability to gain good speed from ground is not there until you get jadebot and / or skyscale, and you probably want both. Until then, your use it pretty niche / limited.
The decision is really hard. Skyscale at first is good because then you can close rifts and it is really good in icebrood maps for the events but it is more expensive and takes long to get while the griffon is faster and cheaper.
i didn't really play story or anything that far just completed living season 4. so idk how it will continue and i didn't pay that much attention but there is a dragon in the story i think this one will be available with maybe the last update? as a free flying mount
Bruh, other than the hovering and strafing ability of Sky Scale, Griffon is far superior. If you put in the practice, it's the best mount in the game. You can do insane shit, and you can fly indefinitely and move up and down as you want. Anyone who calls a Gryphon a "glider" automatically knows nothing about the gryphon and doesn't known how to use it.
Because of the Waypoints and the fact you almost never need to go long distances when doing anything in any map, the full space control of the Skyscale is far better start and stop mount than the Griffon. The fact that the Griffon can only lose height, even when you ascend you won't regain altitude makes it more of a glider than a figher jet (they don't have their own propulsion and only uses the existing momentum). The Griffon is more enjoyable to fly the few times that comes up where I am high enough and need to fly far away. One thing I do is start on skyscale and fly till almost empty of energy then whilst angled up I do two rolls then Bond of Vigor then two more rolls then Bond of Faith into Griffon before i lose too much height. Then dive and fly away like normal.
@@milham975 griffon can absolutely regain altitude. You have to use dives and scoops repeatedly, but you can absolutely regain it. And you don't need insane height at all. I start from on top of the Queensdale covered bridge all the time and get enough altitude to get above the clouds with enough dives. Griffon is only a glider to those who don't know how to properly use it. Look up Thy Weeping Willow and Karfunkelfuchs (Orpan) on RUclips. Both have excellent videos showing the capabilities of griffon.
Skyscale is a one button do everything mount. Requires much more effort to obtain. I see people on the Skyscales ALL the time and rarely the griffon. That should tell you all about what people find more comfortable and better to fly on. Griffon seems more fun and faster but thats about it.
I'm a new player at lvl 20 and main an elementalist, would I be able to get one of these or some other animal to commute faster or are these ranger exclusive? And if yes then when?
@@aishwardhan6478 If you bought the game there is a workaround. With the expansion you get lvl 80 booster, you can just boost alt and do first mission of the expansion (takes like 10 minutes) where you unlock raptor. Thats all you need for the low level maps:-)
The only way to get a mount is if you buy the Path of Fire expansion. As Tekkit said it is very easy unlock with the first mission of the expansion using the level 80 boost on a character. The great thing is that after one character on your account unlocks a mount _all_ characters can use it, so if you have a level 1 alt, they will get to use a raptor. The raptor also has something called Mastery track (if you haven't learned about this already) with many useful skills. With you level 80 boosted character, you may want to ask in chat about something called Mastery Point trains for the Path of Fire zones. They are squads run by players that run through each zone gathering Mastery and Hero points as a group and are very efficient.
Hey welcome to the game, if you don't have expansions, you can use some skills and boons to gain movement speed. Elementalist has things like blink and mist form and some traits (air traitline) offer superspeed and swiftness, besides that make sure to unlock all fast travel points you see. Good luck, have fun!
Well yes but it it faster to hit space bar when the stamina bar is almost full. When you hold space it will activate when the stamina bar is completely refilled.
skyscale for conveniently, griffon for speedy, i use skyscale all the time, only griffon for naked guy in gendarran field, if you get in instance at right time, there are some people on ship getting ready on griffon waiting for it's spawn, thats fun.
Except for going fast, since skyscale is slow af. But using them as combo is pretty strong. If u go from skyscale on flat ground, dodge 2x upwards, then bond of vigor and 2x dodge again, then switch to griff, u have enough height for the speedboost. Or just bunny hop into speedboost. U dont need that much height for the speedboost lol

I agree however the griffon sure helped in doing the skyscale quest less needing the springer for the quest line. I think the skyscale is just a bit more versatile. Given griff need to hop on springer get some place high hop off springer get on Griff. Where as the skyscale used right can skip all that annoying stuff.
The ONLY time the skyscale is ever more useful is afk hovering in mob infested areas. Like many, I bust out the bunny for walls. But Skyscale is fashion wars mandatory ...so there is that.
Skyscale is much cheaper than the griffon as long as you logged in during the release of the living world seasons and unlocked them for free. if you have to buy them first i would recommend getting the bundle for 300 gems or so which is cheaper than buying episode after episode. in terms of collection the griffon is slightly faster. if you plan on getting one or the other i would just do a little bit per day and not rush it since it becomes exponentially more expensive the less time you want to invest.
The price is kinda subjective. Yea, you're spending 250g for the griffin. But if you don't want to use you're (infinitely) more valuable real money, that skyscale is going to cost you 400g (400g for 1200 gems rn) So it's just a matter of time vs convenience imo.
if time is equal to money then yeah cause the skyscale takes a while, you could work irl for the same time it takes to get skyscale and you could buy enough gold in game to buy 3 legendaries weapons and a griffin lol
@@zentzu4003 Skyscale only takes a few days or so and you aren't sitting there doing nothing, it's time gated so you have mandatory breaks. It's cheaper than a griffin and there are a lot of shortcuts now with "return to" quests and shorter time gates. Back in the day I would have agreed, but with all the updates the skyscale is much easier to obtain.
Griffon, easily. Skyscale can "fly" maybe 10 feet before it needs to drop down. Skyscale is slow AF and weak AF. Skyscale loan "flight" is as "good" as it gets, never gets better. Skyscale is utter trash. ANet needs to give it unlimited flight or get rid of it.
Jesus, everything in this game worth having is convoluted, twisted, complicated and hard as fuck to get even after you pay for it.. ( -_-) Not to mention that having 30+ different types of currencies doesn't help.
I was able to get the skyscale in roughly 2 weeks without owning the griffon for most of it. I've only been playing for around 9 months and am definitely a noob. It's actually not that hard if you follow the wiki walkthrough, just time consuming. Getting the map currencies for Skyscale Saddle is often cited as the most tedious and time consuming part. I got mine, all 6 maps, in 7 hours. Do the Return to [map] collections as they award all 250 map currency you need at tier 3.
GW2 doesn't have "endgame gear" and scaling. You don't get to chase the gear treadmill. Instead, you get to work on stuff you actually want to invest time in instead of having to work on things you need just to play the game. Without long-term goals, an MMO would die. And I'd much rather chase after optional stuff I want rather than be forced to grind just to stay relevant.
Tekkit can confirm but my understanding is that by holding the spacebar down the wings will flap when the bar is full. In reality you can flap at 66%. The allows you to keep more altitude.
If you hold spacebar mr griffon will only flap when endurance bar reaches 100%. The percentage frame between 70% ish and 100% allows you to flap a bit earlier. You can get a timing right on it, or you can just spam spacebar which is pretty much guaranteed to flap in the right timing. So IF you want to keep as high as altitude as you can then YES you do need to press spacebar all the time.
I feel like the griffon is maybe more suitable for a new/returning player to get, since there are alot of living world episodes that need to be unlocked to get the skyscale. Otherwise it will cost real money (gems) to unlock the episodes or a lot of time to wait for the episodes to unlock, while griffon is simply a goldgrind and accessible after completing path of fire. IF you have the episodes etc unlocked already i would prefer Skyscale first because of the amount of grind needed. Sooner you can start, the better. Griffon only makes the grind so much easier.
Agreed. Getting Griffon is faster and overall cheaper (at least it feels cheaper, I didnt do any math 😉) than Skyscale, Skyscale requires huge amount of grind and time.
I agree i got the griffon first had it for a couple years. Then i started doing all the free return to living world content in order and got the skyscale fairly quick given i had all the matts saved up. By the time the last part of living world season 4 i had all the charged quartz crystals a grow lamp and all the LW season 4 matts saved up. Of course now that i got my skyscale i dont really use any other mount now lol. Given its pretty adaptable at maxed mastery level.

Guys , everyone will promote griffon..but you know ? Go to guild wars 2 , inside of the game , NOBODY USE IT , ALL USE SKYSCALE in everything.. peoples will never tell you for what exactly is this ,,owl"....you can only enjoy with speed in air..no events is good to be used.. ( dragon fall is the only map good to be used..but not as they think ) griffon is like the bug (mount) , huge speed , but not for all maps.. skyscale can be used in any map , ruined almost all jumping puzzles.. also , skyscale ruined a jumping puzzle ( you can reach in ~5 min ) at top Chalice of tears ..the most annoying jumping puzzle from game. with skyscale , you can climb better than bunny . skyscale is a little slow , but better than all because you don't need any help from ground , no matter how is the map , you can fly , and sit in air , have a better view . only a few use griffon and not skyscale..from 2 reasons: 1..don't have skyscale...2 got a skin (random) at griffon , and they play for skin.

For a guy who loves that game and respects it griffon must be unlocked before skyscale. By doing that you will realise the beauty of path of fire maps-expansion compare to other expansions. I think only the Heart of thorns can be compare to PoF.
Nope. You're incorrect. Skyscale NEVER gets better than the trash loan ones you can use. Griffon is easily the better mount. The glider is better than the skyscale for getting around.

Finally broke down a few months ago and unlocked it. I am mad at myself for not doing this a long time ago. There's only 3 mounts you need, imo: Skimmer with underwater unlocked, Jackal for sand portals and Skyscale for everything else. The others are very niche in their usage and in almost all cases Skyscale will work just fine.

the thing for Griffon is that you'll take some time to get it and more time to learn it, while with Skyscale you'll take all that same time just to get it and afterwards you don't really need to learn any mechanics, just fly. if you like having fun you should get the Griffon, the questline is a lot easier and using it is not only fun but easy if you use some of your time to learn the mechanics properly, while Skyscale has a harder questline (that I doubt anyone finds it fun) and you'll just fly around with some more versatility since it's easier to learn (if you're like me and enjoy fun and speed you might become bored of it soon, but that's just my opinion)
Yeah, I agree. I suppose the Skyscale has a wider variety of combat abilities now, but the mobility just isn't there. Also having to swap off it to stay in the air for long periods of time doesn't do the skyscale any favors.
Just got the griffon, and while I certainly like it, I wasn’t terribly impressed at first, but I did notice I (being a complete griffon noob and not owning a skyscale) could outpace other people flying the skyscale pretty readily. That being said, I saw some videos of people that got the three griffon masteries and they show the griffon tearing up the place like a cheetah in heat. So my next task is to learn to fly the griffon the way it’s meant to be flown!!
Griffon can stay in the air forever too, just need to dive and pull up a lot. Takes a lot of practice, but you can maintain your original height forever.
You can also gain infinite hight by quickly swapping between gliding and griffon. Even easyer with jade bot but also works without. It's very tideous though.

Also, as a condi thief main, i would also add that skyscale is the only mount whose attack ability leaves a combo field, which is great if you are loaded with finishers. The fire field adds an incredible burst to the initials condi dd burst

1:10 that's false you CAN maintain the altitude IF you know what you're doing with the griffon.
However one thing to know is that flying the griffon takes practice.

I just use all the mounts xD I have an easy keybind for each of them so I can swap whenever I want to.
I use skyscale most often but if I'm looking to go a long distance and have stuff I can climb easily, I get up high, bunny into griffon and zoom away! Griffon is so much fun! If I can't get up anywhere and it's pretty flat then I rollerbeetle, if I'm faced with a hill I jackal and water I skimmer. All depends on the terrain and where I'm trying to go. I'd say I use raptor the least these days as it's just easier for me to switch to skyscale if I have to go over a big gap
I like how the devs put this /mechanics in mounting system
GW2 does a great job and keeping every mount relevant by giving each an advantage in certain situations. The best Thing is having all and swapping them around to Adapt.
Griffon for traversal (going places which are a bit of a distance), Skyscale for everything else, since the Stamina bar doesn't actually need a second to regen, so you can simply keep landing on objects whenever the need arises and ultimately outpace any of the other mounts. Again, this only applies when not speaking on the topic of traversal, since the Skyscale is eeeeasily outpaced by other mounts. Also, I must admit, Griffon flying is bomb af! \m/

Get Griffon, get used to using it on land, jumping over obstacles, flying at low and high speed. Then get to dragonfall and try out the skyscale, decide that skyscale isnt worth it. Be a griffon flying chad and just do the skyscale achievements when youre bored.

If you play the game enough the Skyscale is worth it IMO, but only if you truly love the game. If you have put blood sweat and tears into multiple alts and you don't have the SS you're doing it wrong. Regardless Griffon Chad, I love the Griffon more.

Finally got the chance to try a skyscale in Dragonsfall and it is a lot more annoying than I thought it would be. I'm learning just how incredible the griffon is if you know how to use it.
skyscale with jade bot gliding ( level 1-3) can be above clouds of any map.. all maps have around 2-3 Cloud layers, but skyscale can reach at the altitude limit of any map , above the last layer of clouds is a long way to the limit Altitudes.. Skyscale is more about seeing the game's construction clearer. The griffin is for those who want adrenaline.
I use my Skyscale like a helicopter for short flying jaunts. Griffon is for getting across the map quickly if you have altitude. I use my skyscale more, generally, but Griffon isn't useless. For pure speed, I go rollerbeetle, unless the map prevents that from being efficient.
I think you can stay in the air for ever with gryphon as long as you use the diving momentum too bring yourself up again.

I'd say the Griffon is supernice for specific situations and the skyscale is more allround. Mostly because you can just take off from the ground and have the Bond of Vigor skill for an extra boost or 2.
After getting the Skyscale first I ended up spending 250g on a mount I hardly use. Since the griffon also makes the skyscale quest a lot easier, go for that first.

Skyscale is easier to use and can fly without first gaining altitude. Griffon is far faster and can fly indefinitely if you practice first, but takes a few moments to set up if you find yourself somewhere you can't get high up. Both are good for different reasons. I guess it's like raptor vs beetle. Raptor gets the job done moving fast along the ground while beetle takes practice and is useless on a few maps.

@@dragosmunteanu2992 No I meant raptor vs beetle. When people want to travel quickly across the map they tend to use one or the other depending on if they're good at beetle driving. Jackal moves about as fast as the raptor but the raptor's extended jump can clear more distance quickly.
they aren't made for the same pupose, skyscale is for short precise movement bursts and altitude gain, griffon is for long fast travel once you gained enough altitude to boost dive
they are pretty complementary
once you have all masteries you can swap perfectly in mid air: skyscale (cliff boost) -> griffon (forward boost) -> skyscale (cliff boost) -> repeat

I wish they added a toggle to the cling of the skyscale. They shortly after changed it so while you are descending it won't cling, but ironically while ascending, that's when you are pressing the button that instantly triggers wall jump, it clings anyway to the slightest touch of any surface or tree, wasting half of your stamina regardless you fully channel it or not. But after all this long it's highly unlikely they'll address it, just tell you to learn and suck it up.
Toggle would be nice for sure, or better a keybind that would trigger that grab

I agree i got them both the griffon came in handy getting all the quest stuff for skyscale. I got lucky and got all the living world stuff free because the return to living world. To me yes the griffon has infinite flight done right. However the skyscale to me has a edge in mobility needing to not hop off griffon and then hop on springer then back on griffon.
Griffon is amazing at far travel and speed if you know how to use the booster ability correctly.
Skyscale is well also good for getting to places from different locations (specifically ones you couldn't already move at high speeds too xD)
for griffon you can hold space bar you dont have to keep pressing space
but you have a slightly slower flapping speed. if you press the button you can flap before it fully recharges
Springer jump into a launch the switch to griffon will beat any mount in the game without question
I feel like one part that was missing is that you can do cheesy things against walls with the Griffon too. Semi similar to the horse glitch running up walls in Skyrim (though not nearly as extreme as skyrim haha). Its also pretty good for just darting about semi infinitely rather than needing to peek over medium sized ledges or going through them with a different mount. Its a good mount and has been my main outside of Bunny :D

@@TekkitsWorkshop grind is fine, i play warframe bro lol, but gw2 is just unnecessarily overwhelming with content. u need something for something to get something and then you have to grind the games 2nd highest yet hard-to-come-by currency for days, possibly weeks, just to add it to your account of mounts. gw2 mount system is a mess if you ask me. would've been much better if all the mounts abilities were stackable mods, like sigils for weapons and runes for armour but you can only apply 3 per mount and can have 5 mounts per account, and then have like 25 difference raisable animals that you take from eggs or as babies in the wild, feed them for a set amount of time for them to mature, and then add your mods/sigils/runes to your preference. like being able to take a wyvern egg and raise it to adult, then mod it with your chosen abilities as we do our characters, but with high jumping, forward dash teleporting, flying, and many other abilities as mods you can apply to whatever animal you raise. spending days/weeks grinding a mount that doesnt even free-fly is utterly mental if you ask me.
@@north_borne its meant to be a game dude, not a full-time job. there is grind, and then there is guild wars. as a 31 year old gamer, i've never had to work so hard and unrealistically for mediocre items in my entire gaming life, like i have with guild wars. expansions are a ridiculous price for the content, so the only other option is farm gold, which in itself is a mind f*ck and struggle, even during events. i've been on mad king thorn now since the update landed, have earned about 12 gold total from selling 1 candy corn cob each time i eventually make enough candy corn to get one, and the same with the skulls and other event currencies. doing all daily T1 & T2 fractals gives you about 5 - 8 gold per day IF you sell literally everything you earn from them. game is overwhelming to say the least, but hey if you got no life and spend 15 hours a day in front of your pc, who are we to say anything? 🤨y

The skyscale is so much more effort than the griffon, and more expensive too. If you only wanna get skyscale then that's fine, but if you wanna get both you should definetly start with griffon.
I believe , you cannot do jumping puzzles which request for unlock skyscale..
I heard in past about players who cannot do these..or some boring stuff who don't request meta-events ..just solo type.

As someone who has played off and on for over 9 years, I see a lot of players asking "Is the Griffon worth it" and I always STRONGLY say yes. Anyone who tells you otherwise has no idea what they are talking about or are genuinely hurting that players experience. It will take you a LONG time to get the Skyscale, even if you're a super freak, you wont do it fast. Not only that, but the Griffon is faster, period and I still use it often to this day. Also, once you get the Griffon a LOT of content just seems so much easier to navigate. It's not perfect, but neither is the Skyscale, they are both amazing in their own right.. but seriously get the god damn Griffon and don't even hesitate, and get it FIRST. (i know that disagree's with Tekks opinion but its just my opinion, as the Griffon is easier to get. Way easier. When you understand the ATLANTIAN TASK that lies before you of obtaining the Sky Scale, the Griffon starts sounding a lot better.)

peoples target griffon because is more simple to use gold than to farm/ solve maps../ to do a few stupid jumping puzzles..which with bunny as mount , you can jump at them and in air with a skill from mastery to jump off in air from bunny to the end of the jumping puzzles..( I did to ~8 jumping puzzles in this way..just skip even is easy..but you know? when you can break a game..you do..)

Been playing for a year now and on my second week of playing I had skyscale, it's not hard, especially when you can buy the treats. I got my griffon week one of playing the game, ( used a boost and ran the PoF dlc) on the same Sunday I finished my griffon I jumped right into the skyscale. You make it sound so hellish, while it's definitely not a fun experience, if you can't do that quest then the game most likely isn't for you.

In which way? You need to buy Path of Fire for both of them and Griffon has an unavoidable 250 gold cost (10 purchases that cost 25 g each). The minimum gold cost for obtaining Skyscale is lower than that.
I don't think it's reasonable to factor the cost of LWS4 into the price of the Skyscale. The season is a lot more than just the Skyscale.
I don't have all expansion but i like to believe Griffon starts shining when you do! Why do i say this? Well, the ability to gain good speed from ground is not there until you get jadebot and / or skyscale, and you probably want both. Until then, your use it pretty niche / limited.
Skyscale , its crazy process to get that one but at the end i can say its the best mount overall :)
The decision is really hard. Skyscale at first is good because then you can close rifts and it is really good in icebrood maps for the events but it is more expensive and takes long to get while the griffon is faster and cheaper.

You can do that with quickly swapping between griffon and gliding.
Bruh, other than the hovering and strafing ability of Sky Scale, Griffon is far superior. If you put in the practice, it's the best mount in the game. You can do insane shit, and you can fly indefinitely and move up and down as you want. Anyone who calls a Gryphon a "glider" automatically knows nothing about the gryphon and doesn't known how to use it.
Because of the Waypoints and the fact you almost never need to go long distances when doing anything in any map, the full space control of the Skyscale is far better start and stop mount than the Griffon. The fact that the Griffon can only lose height, even when you ascend you won't regain altitude makes it more of a glider than a figher jet (they don't have their own propulsion and only uses the existing momentum). The Griffon is more enjoyable to fly the few times that comes up where I am high enough and need to fly far away. One thing I do is start on skyscale and fly till almost empty of energy then whilst angled up I do two rolls then Bond of Vigor then two more rolls then Bond of Faith into Griffon before i lose too much height. Then dive and fly away like normal.

@@milham975 griffon can absolutely regain altitude. You have to use dives and scoops repeatedly, but you can absolutely regain it. And you don't need insane height at all. I start from on top of the Queensdale covered bridge all the time and get enough altitude to get above the clouds with enough dives. Griffon is only a glider to those who don't know how to properly use it. Look up Thy Weeping Willow and Karfunkelfuchs (Orpan) on RUclips. Both have excellent videos showing the capabilities of griffon.
Skyscale is a one button do everything mount.

I see people on the Skyscales ALL the time and rarely the griffon. That should tell you all about what people find more comfortable and better to fly on. Griffon seems more fun and faster but thats about it.

@@aishwardhan6478 If you bought the game there is a workaround. With the expansion you get lvl 80 booster, you can just boost alt and do first mission of the expansion (takes like 10 minutes) where you unlock raptor. Thats all you need for the low level maps:-)
The only way to get a mount is if you buy the Path of Fire expansion. As Tekkit said it is very easy unlock with the first mission of the expansion using the level 80 boost on a character. The great thing is that after one character on your account unlocks a mount _all_ characters can use it, so if you have a level 1 alt, they will get to use a raptor.
The raptor also has something called Mastery track (if you haven't learned about this already) with many useful skills. With you level 80 boosted character, you may want to ask in chat about something called Mastery Point trains for the Path of Fire zones. They are squads run by players that run through each zone gathering Mastery and Hero points as a group and are very efficient.
Hey welcome to the game, if you don't have expansions, you can use some skills and boons to gain movement speed. Elementalist has things like blink and mist form and some traits (air traitline) offer superspeed and swiftness, besides that make sure to unlock all fast travel points you see.

skyscale for conveniently, griffon for speedy, i use skyscale all the time, only griffon for naked guy in gendarran field, if you get in instance at right time, there are some people on ship getting ready on griffon waiting for it's spawn, thats fun.
Griffon is only useful when you're high up, and capable of doing a dive boost. Skyscale is useful any time of the day.
Except for going fast, since skyscale is slow af. But using them as combo is pretty strong. If u go from skyscale on flat ground, dodge 2x upwards, then bond of vigor and 2x dodge again, then switch to griff, u have enough height for the speedboost. Or just bunny hop into speedboost. U dont need that much height for the speedboost lol

I agree however the griffon sure helped in doing the skyscale quest less needing the springer for the quest line. I think the skyscale is just a bit more versatile. Given griff need to hop on springer get some place high hop off springer get on Griff. Where as the skyscale used right can skip all that annoying stuff.
The ONLY time the skyscale is ever more useful is afk hovering in mob infested areas. Like many, I bust out the bunny for walls. But Skyscale is fashion wars mandatory ...so there is that.

Skyscale is much cheaper than the griffon as long as you logged in during the release of the living world seasons and unlocked them for free. if you have to buy them first i would recommend getting the bundle for 300 gems or so which is cheaper than buying episode after episode. in terms of collection the griffon is slightly faster. if you plan on getting one or the other i would just do a little bit per day and not rush it since it becomes exponentially more expensive the less time you want to invest.
The price is kinda subjective. Yea, you're spending 250g for the griffin. But if you don't want to use you're (infinitely) more valuable real money, that skyscale is going to cost you 400g (400g for 1200 gems rn) So it's just a matter of time vs convenience imo.

@@zentzu4003 Skyscale only takes a few days or so and you aren't sitting there doing nothing, it's time gated so you have mandatory breaks. It's cheaper than a griffin and there are a lot of shortcuts now with "return to" quests and shorter time gates. Back in the day I would have agreed, but with all the updates the skyscale is much easier to obtain.

I was able to get the skyscale in roughly 2 weeks without owning the griffon for most of it. I've only been playing for around 9 months and am definitely a noob. It's actually not that hard if you follow the wiki walkthrough, just time consuming.
Getting the map currencies for Skyscale Saddle is often cited as the most tedious and time consuming part. I got mine, all 6 maps, in 7 hours. Do the Return to [map] collections as they award all 250 map currency you need at tier 3.

GW2 doesn't have "endgame gear" and scaling. You don't get to chase the gear treadmill. Instead, you get to work on stuff you actually want to invest time in instead of having to work on things you need just to play the game. Without long-term goals, an MMO would die. And I'd much rather chase after optional stuff I want rather than be forced to grind just to stay relevant.

Tekkit can confirm but my understanding is that by holding the spacebar down the wings will flap when the bar is full. In reality you can flap at 66%. The allows you to keep more altitude.
If you hold spacebar mr griffon will only flap when endurance bar reaches 100%. The percentage frame between 70% ish and 100% allows you to flap a bit earlier. You can get a timing right on it, or you can just spam spacebar which is pretty much guaranteed to flap in the right timing. So IF you want to keep as high as altitude as you can then YES you do need to press spacebar all the time.

I feel like the griffon is maybe more suitable for a new/returning player to get, since there are alot of living world episodes that need to be unlocked to get the skyscale.
Otherwise it will cost real money (gems) to unlock the episodes or a lot of time to wait for the episodes to unlock, while griffon is simply a goldgrind and accessible after completing path of fire.
IF you have the episodes etc unlocked already i would prefer Skyscale first because of the amount of grind needed. Sooner you can start, the better. Griffon only makes the grind so much easier.
Agreed. Getting Griffon is faster and overall cheaper (at least it feels cheaper, I didnt do any math 😉) than Skyscale, Skyscale requires huge amount of grind and time.

I agree i got the griffon first had it for a couple years. Then i started doing all the free return to living world content in order and got the skyscale fairly quick given i had all the matts saved up. By the time the last part of living world season 4 i had all the charged quartz crystals a grow lamp and all the LW season 4 matts saved up. Of course now that i got my skyscale i dont really use any other mount now lol. Given its pretty adaptable at maxed mastery level.

Skyscale has an achievement called "Ruler of Skies" so even ANet admit Skyscale is the superior mount.

peoples will never tell you for what exactly is this ,,owl"....you can only enjoy with speed in air..no events is good to be used.. ( dragon fall is the only map good to be used..but not as they think )
griffon is like the bug (mount) , huge speed , but not for all maps..
skyscale can be used in any map , ruined almost all jumping puzzles..
also , skyscale ruined a jumping puzzle ( you can reach in ~5 min ) at top Chalice of tears ..the most annoying jumping puzzle from game.
with skyscale , you can climb better than bunny .
skyscale is a little slow , but better than all because you don't need any help from ground , no matter how is the map , you can fly , and sit in air , have a better view .
only a few use griffon and not skyscale..from 2 reasons: 1..don't have skyscale...2 got a skin (random) at griffon , and they play for skin.
Griffon is better at covering long distances and it can 100% be used in all maps. You just don't know how.
Also it's WAY more fun.

@@dragosmunteanu2992 Been lazy learning something is not a reason. Skyscale started been the main use cause of how easier you can take him from the SOTO expansion compare to the Griffon's. For a guy who loves that game and respects it griffon must be unlocked before skyscale. By doing that you will realise the beauty of path of fire maps-expansion compare to other expansions. I think only the Heart of thorns can be compare to PoF.

Because the dive ability. It really is like a jet. It's the fastest in the air when there is enough altitude to maintain the dive. So fun!
Also compared to skyscale grind the griffon grind is piece of cake, 250g aside.

"There's no clear answer." Have to disagree. Skyscale is better. It's not even a contest. I've had a Griffon mount for years and kept putting off Skyscale. Finally broke down a few months ago and unlocked it. I am mad at myself for not doing this a long time ago. There's only 3 mounts you need, imo: Skimmer with underwater unlocked, Jackal for sand portals and Skyscale for everything else. The others are very niche in their usage and in almost all cases Skyscale will work just fine.

It can't fly, only temporarily leap and glide 10 feet till it needs to land, yet again.
