    I would like to know if it’s at all possible to do this where you can seal the window behind the venetian blind.

      i know this comment is old but in case anyone else was wondering about this - i think the purpose is to create an airspace. it's a physics thing (like the energy-efficient windows that have an airspace between two panes of glass).

      Marci Lynn No, they didn't. She said start from the corner, and don't put the hair dryer too close to the plastic. You shrink the plastic to the window. If this is too hard for you to follow, consider hiring a handyman or handywoman to do it for you.

    it is good to run your hair dryer over the tape before you peel it so that it sticks better on the wall

    For all those complaining about why the Blinds were left up...Did you ever think of Light??? The whole purpose of the wrap is to prevent drafts, therefor the blinds being down has no argument for providing extra heat. #EngineeringForDummies

    • @jarretwilson5811
      @jarretwilson5811 7 лет назад +7

      It was a good video but what everyone is complaining about has nothing to do with the blinds providing heat. It has to do with security and the fact that you cannot control your blinds. If you leave them open and let in sunlight you run the risk of exposing everything in your house to potential theft. #commonsense

    The blinds under the film certainly don't help when you want to adjust sunlight but more importantly privacy - that window looks right into the neighbors window - all of my windows are blinded for privacy reasons and really like them down when I am dressing and bathing.

    Does this kind of insulation only stops air drafts or does it also help prevent the heat loss from the glass as well?

    • @chuck2dstars85
      @chuck2dstars85 2 года назад +2

      Heat loss and cold drafts both result from the inner surface of the window being cold in the winter (or the reverse in the summer) and both are significantly reduced by this type of insulation. The added thin film layer adds two convective* barriers to the path of heat transfer from the window to your room. The glass itself has two convective barriers, one on each side and the film adds two more. The spacing between the glass and film is typically larger than optimum, but still helps considerably to reduce heat transfer through the window.
      [* Heat is transferred by three mechanism: conduction, convection and thermal radiation. Depending on the infrared transmission properties of the particular film plastic film used, it might also somewhat reduce radiation heat transfer.]

    when you heat the plastics with the hair dryer is it supposed to go all the way back? does it go on top of blinds or behind?

  • @charliethorn2638
    @charliethorn2638 8 лет назад +1

    I think that they left the blinds up on purpose and after they completed the window film, it appears that they were going to hang another set of blinds above the moulding. You can see the brackets for the new set of blinds already installed above the moulding of the window. Why 2 sets of blinds? I know the set above the molding will come down when you take the film off, but it just seems awkward to have 2 sets of blinds for a window

Unless you like your room constantly dark or bright, constant sunshine, how do you apply the window kit leaving blind turning rod and raise/lowering string? Please give us some additional instructions on how to use the window kits while being able to work the blinds.

  • @uscitizen898
    @uscitizen898 8 лет назад +19

    Ummmm......so yeah. These instructions aren't any more help than the ones provided with virtually every brand kit. Now, here's a thought: They left the blinds up (and not even evenly spaced at that!) and the cord for raising and lowering them is inside the plastic. So now you're stuck with them in that position until you remove the plastic. I have blinds on every window in our home. There are ways to put on plastic AND have the blinds accessible for raising and lowering. Now that would have been a good tutorial. Blinds up for winter sun to warm is a good thing...but then maybe not such a good thing for privacy ;-)

    Not a very healthy idea , condensation build up between the plastic and the window will cause mold plus the condensation has nowhere to go and inhaling stale air in sealed up heated rooms is not pleasant, even on cold days open at least one window for about a half hour. Buy an expanding curtain rail that expands about a 12 inches on either side of the width of the window if you have that space, install close to the ceiling, giving enough room for end fittings. Buy heavy floor length lined drapes and a set of curtain liners that fit the drapes, hook the curtain liners to the drapes and hang the drapes now you have access to the blinds, I prefer white net curtains as the window is then fully dressed. You can use the same method on front and back doors using one floor length drape keeping it open during the day and closing it at night. Obviously every room will not have floor length options in such cases drapes sitting on the sill or slightly below it will suffice.

    oh my LORD..all of these videos are a joke..i live in a 125 year old Victorian home with over 30 original windows..and theyre monsters.over five feet tall..single pane glass with the weights..heres what I did four years ago...I went online and bought a couple rolls of 6mm clear poly.and rolls of both white and black Velcro.measured my frames.cut the poly.stuck the felt part of the Velcro on the plastic..stuck the loop part on the frames and installed the plastic on the frames..nice and tight..reusable every year..i labeled each piece so I know what window it goes on..and the Velcro does stay on the frames and its not an eyesore..thats why I got both white and black.as soon as I seal them..you notice the difference right away..its an amazing way to seal them and THE ONLY WAY after caulking of course...

      Missy Rabbit you should...but we are already into the winter type weather by me...so my stuffs been up for over a month already..it really helps and I don't care that I cant see clearly out the windows...I tried uploading a video on it but it didn't work..and t be honest..i don't wanna now...do you understand how to do it?..the materials aren't found at your local big box store...I went online for the materials a few years ago..large rolls of Velcro and large rolls of 6mm clear(close to clear) poly plastic...ya gotta be real careful when taking the plastic off or I like to keep a window half covered sometimes..the Velcro sometimes likes to come off the plastics corner...it is what it is..i know how to be careful though since its my creation..

    • @bhinderbinder
      @bhinderbinder 10 лет назад

      So you put one side of velcro around/on the window frame, then lay plastic sheets on them, then you fasten the plastic down with more velcro? I don't understand what you mean by 'stick the loop part'. I live in a real cute little apt. but the windows are big and old, as is your house. Not only that I've got a nice 2nd story porch but the door leading out to it is a beast to try and winterize!

    • @screwballsquirrel4473
      @screwballsquirrel4473 10 лет назад

      Beth Heinecamp loop is the harder part of the two pieces..the felt part is the fuzzy part..i use a blow dryer and warm the frame up and adhere the one part of the Velcro..and I do the same for the plastic part also..the heat makes the gummy adhesive stick better...but I use thick plastic..not the cheap film ya get in a kit that melts when ya blow dry it.. if ya give me an email address ill send ya pictures..maybe ill do a video real quick....its starting to cool off so..but im moving in three weeks so all my work is wasted now..but it worked really well...of course with the shutters closed as well...I had thirty five foot tall by three foot wide windows..it was a lot of work but it was worth it...
