On the last one, with the circuit board. Why does that happened?
It happen to me a last month. I found the fuse blown. Tested with a resettleble mini breaker and that happened. Then I put a new fuse and the unit worked fine with the burnt mark.
I still order a new board.

Where was that water in the duct coming from?

Most likely condensation from the line set, suction line has no Armaflex (insulation) on it and its supposed to or it will "sweat". I wouldn't doubt that the flex also had a tear in the outer liner (vapor barrier). The high side/high pressure line does not have to have insulation on it (armaflex), but if it was a mini-split line set then both high and low sides should have armaflex on them.
