Arlanda Airport: Behind the Scenes Airside Tour
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 2 фев 2023
- In this video we get a rare behind-the-scenes look at operations at Stockholm’s Arlanda Airport. We spend the day going around the entire airfield and along the way we learn all sorts of interesting facts about the how the airport functions. We see a TUI 787 get pushed back up close (including how the tug attaches to the landing gear!); we watch takeoffs and taxiing from just along the runways and taxiways at various spots; we learn about wildlife control and which animals tend to burrow under the fences most; we visit the mysterious Air Sweden MD-80 tucked away in the forest and learn what it’s used for; we watch a Swedish Police helicopter take off; we check out the collection of classic planes parked at Arlanda including a BAe ATP, a Caravelle, and an old and very mysterious DC-8. We take a walk through the new VIP Terminal and even get a look inside the Royal Suite where the King and Queen of Sweden wait for their flights; and we learn about some of the new construction going on around Terminal 5 including a tour of the site where the new consolidated security screening area is being completed in time for this coming summer!
The truth about the DC-8 revealed!! From Daniel: “The plane was bought from United by a Swiss airline that was owned by a Saudi family who wanted it converted into a VIP aircraft. They actually bought two DC-8’s, VP-BHM, the one we still have, and VP-BHS which was to be used for spares. An “aircraft broker” was brought on to handle the refurbishment. The story goes that Zimbabwe’s leader Robert Mugabe got in contact with the broker and wanted to buy the refurbished DC-8. The broker bought the aircraft from the Saudi family in the hopes of cutting a better deal with Mugabe but he later backed out of the deal. The broker ended up without a deal and the aircraft is still at the airport.”
**Giveaway rules**: make sure you’ve liked and subscribed. Then, let us know in the comments which aircraft you spotted in the video, and tell us where you think they were going. At least one aircraft, and you’ll be entered into a random drawing - but the first person to post a comment naming ten aircraft and their destinations correctly will also win one.
Big thanks to Daniel Skoglund and John Nilsson at Swedavia for the invitation and the grand tour.

I think infrastructure (airports, runways, refueling, amenities at airports) is just as interesting as flying. There are a lot of channels that do flying, but not so many that have access behind the scenes like you had here. More like this!
THIS was FASCINATING!
Logistics, planning and functionality ...
The smaller details .. and the bigger picture.
I used to work in airline marketing and touring 'behind the scenes' was key to understanding aspects of my job.
MORE please.
I enjoyed this video as much as the flying ones. Seeing all the old airplanes was a treat. I think that many of the people who watch airplanes videos enjoy the airports also. I finally got to Stockholm last year on SAS.
Awesome video, I'd watch more such behind-the-scenes videos for sure. Arlanda is my home airport, so it's fantastic that the new security will scan stuff inside the bags!
Didn't realise how fast 29min passed! As always, great video Gab! It was a pleasure watching.. do try to get us more such airport videos from around the world.
17:29 - I love how similar are the frontal shapes of Caravelle and B787
Tui b787-9 - Gotenburg
Ryanair b737-800 - Venice
Thai Airways a350-900 - Bangkok
Lot E195 - Warsaw
Finnair E190 - Helsinki
Sas a330-300 - Miami
Finnair A330-300 - Doha
Finnair a320-200 - Helsinki
Finnair a321-200 - Helsinki
Interesting watch! Appreciate the work being put into the videoes.
Some really interesting insights and nice peeks. Thanks!
Great video! I enjoy seeing the heart of aviation in airport operations - as a retired pilot this is fascinating. Keep up the good work. ESSA has certainly changed since I worked there 30 years ago ✈
yes please more stuff like this, its very intresting
Love the video so keep’em coming!!
This was awesome, definitely interesting!
I'm loving your content and that its a mix, not only flying but also all of these other fascinating aspects of aviation.
i was lucky enough to visit the tui hangar and go inside the cockpit of this excact 787!
Gabriel, super interesting video. Can we please have more videos like this one, along with your flying ones of course!
Good one! Always nice to learn more on airports, including "your own" as ARN would be in my case :)
Very interesting to look around Arlanda. At 19:20 in the video I saw my favourite,Thai Airways A350, TG961 STO-BKK
Great video! It looked rather nice!
I remember seing the norweigen 787 when i was going to latvia
Intressant video!👍🌹
Visa mer sånt! Show more of this!
This was great! I have plane spotted at ESSA a few times and I am a bit jealous of the access you got, but I loved to see it. I’d be happy to watch more videos like this!
I fly in and out of Arlanda all the time so really cool :). Would love longer about ATC and life behind the radios.
Gud vad mäktigt!
Great video, love learning about airports around the world. Keep them coming 🛬
Thumbs up for airport tours.
It would be cool to se more behind the scenes of the Swedish Airports. Keep em coming!😄
Great idea, I would like to see more videos like this one of other airports around the world.😎👍 🇨🇦
AWESOME! Superb mini documentary, look forward to seeing more like this.
Very interesting, more behind the scenes stuff like this please. Makes for a more diverse range on your channel.
Thank you for this informative video, Gabriel! I really appreciate the access @flightradar24 has to being behind the scenes. I enjoy the flight reviews, too, but how many people get to see BTS like you do. keep 'em coming!
SAS A330 take off!! ✈️💙🤗
Loved this video as much as I like the flight videos. Awesome job as always! I’m excited for the next video!
Recently? They have been building there since the beginning, or even earlier before covid kicked in. Im flying there at least twice a month and due to the construction its quite a trek to the airport bus that takes you to the rentalcars and parking
Awesome video, really interesting to see this side of my home airport that I use a lot! Looking forward to the new additions to T5.
Nice amount of time for Finnair planes 😎🇫🇮👍, all of them departing to HEL(L), Helsinki.
Ace that do more of that. Love it. Boeing 767 to Helsinki.

Fantastic! I loved the behind-the-scenes tour. Spotted a KLM Cityhopper headed for AMS.
Very interesting behind the scenes of my home airport. This is a pleasant deviation from your flying videos. Everyone can get on a plane but not everyone can get in behind the scenes like this so keep this kind of videos coming! It of course inaugural flights and events involving flying like the interesting air Greenland delivery flight is of course also hard to attend for most. I’m getting old now so I guess I never will work at Arlanda. But I used to drive the Arlanda Airport coaches, Flygbussarna on weekends for 6 years and always loved coming here almost every weekend. Still even though I have an office job I still come to Arlanda on weekends if I’m lucky since I sometimes drive for Uber as a hobby now.
I think you missed one important plane stationed at Arlanda for years. The former Trans Jet B 747-200 that is the Jumbo Stay hostel now. As the story goes the company Trans Jet went bankrupt in the early 2000s leaving 3 Boeing 747-200s stranded here due to unpaid airport fees. 2 were later bailed out and sold to new owners. But one remained and stood there, not far from where it stands today, parked for years until it was bought and converted into a hotel. Quite the story! I used to sometimes tell it to my bus passengers on Flygbussarna when passing it by on our way in to the airport when I felt many was looking at it out the windows. I got a lot of untreated thankyous from passengers interested in the aircraft. Someone should make a video about it.
Yes we'd like to return and do more - and maybe we could fit in the Jumbo Stay 747 too! Thanks for the comment!
Why do you not do a mix of flights and airports. Always interesting to follow your videos!
Scandinavian Airlines A330 | 7:15 | to Chicago o Hare
I think I´m one of the few ppl that have stepped down on the roof of the air traffic control tower. Or rather I know I am, along with three other ppl. We did that while dismantling the tower crane that was used to build the tower. From that crane, you could see the Globe arena and the church in Uppsala on a good day.
The TUI Dreamliner went to Gothenburg, Sweden
Hi Gabe, One ¨cool¨ video. Great to be able to poke around the parts of an airport which are usually inaccessible, and Yes, I would like to see more of this kind of content.
Glad you enjoyed it!

Id very much enjoy seeing more videos on aviation infrastructure. Thanks again for a very fun entry. As always, keep up the good work.
The should use some of those older planes, like use them as part of a café/bar/restaurant. Like how schipol has the fokker on the roof, should so something similar

Is it just me or can you hear the beginning of “Jump Around” by House of Pain when that 787 is on the takeoff roll 😂
Hi Gabe,
Very interesting video - I'm an AvGeek by profession and hobby 🤓- and find the infrastructure aspects as interesting as the flying. Keep them coming please!! 😊

I prefer in-cockpit videos but this was quite cool as well. Especially with ESSA being my home airport.
Maybe plan next visit in the summer though 😉
