Thank you, it's very helpful. What was eye opening was the fact that "we get to choose our reactions" it's a product of choice and not a matter of "that's just me"

Talking to my neighbor yesterday the topic of Faith came up and I defined it as currency on the spiritual plane. He liked that a lot so then I indulged into a comparison of Beliefs compared to Faith. He is 74 and a staunch supporter of Trump so I made the mistake of using people beliefs in Trump being a sort of savior as an example of beliefs being what we want things to be instead of careful examination of the evidence presented to judge correctly.
My mistake, so I let it go of it and did a quick search to increased my vocabulary on the matter of beliefs when talking to people who are much different than me politically, and you were the first clip to come up.
I am most pleased with your explanation. Bringing in the topic of Values help tremendously and is very powerful. Thank you.

    Values do not change…
    Beliefs do and often do…
    For example….
You “value” quality in a car…
Today you “believe” that say Ford, gives you the quality you value desire.
Tomorrow you may “believe” that Gm gives you better quality so your belief will change.
Most people usually reverse these two.

In terms of control, I would adjust that we have control over our emotions. Due to the speed at which they occur we are only able to control our response to the physical feelings we experience (I.e. muscle tightness, heart rate, breathing, body temperature etc, of which a series of differing combinations of these feelings make up our various emotions).
We control ‘in part’ our thoughts, some of which are random, like dreams, or ideas that just come into our heads. The words that come out of our mouths are also under our direct volitional control as well as our actions. As has been alluded to in the video once a person realises that this is the limit of their power they can truly live.
    Outstanding video.👏

You are sooo right on! And the more aware that we become, the more we can influence what is in our subconscious , so that “what comes out” from the sub conscious level is more “in line” with principles and who we truly want to be! Thank you for your comments!

It's amazing how many beliefs come into our life that are not examined. Believing without understanding the influences they have. Considering how even simple beliefs can direct a flow of thoughts. It's amazing this isnt taught in school. We can go through our whole life without seeing a self-belief for what it actually is. Most of society live under this condition.

Mmm I disagree on the takeaways here. He says to just change the "rules" so you're living in alignment with your values. But what if you're honestly *not* living in alignment with your values as much as you'd like to be? It would be a lot more honest and cause more personal growth if you changed your behavior to fit those rules that do make sense. Obviously, if your rules are unrealistic, that's one thing. Your rules should be achievable. But he said to change your rules so it's basically impossible to fail. That's just like comforting yourself and telling yourself you're great even if you're not living your values at all.

7:25 Let's say that i value quality art. In order to be living this value i need to create quality art that is comparable to the art that I already saw. Which itself comes from experience of other artists quality art. It's not like I can Just stop expecting my art to look good. I would need to loose the experience of seeing great art. The same thing goes with that you just can't simply change Valuing the quality art and just switch over Valuing the creation of the art. Therefore where i dont see the missing piece that allows me to value art just only by creation, if there is already an experience of great art ?
