Some blue smoke curling off targets it hits would look rad. A bit like domination magic. Although obviously arcane has nothing to do with that. Nope, nothing to see there. What?
Dude, I was under the impression that the only god tier hero talents and fun specs overall were warlock and DK ones.. that is until I tried mage. ALL 3 SPECS & HERO TALENTS ARE INSANE! Visually, audibly and fun wise too. I just wish that fire had less downtime and overall performed better for the effort we're putting in. I maxed all classes and the one I keep wanting to go back is my mage, that is for the first time in 20+ years.
Sunfury arcane pre nerfs so was beautiful in terms of skill expression. Truly one of my favorite learning / gaming experiences. Blasting with arcane soul just felt like such a great orchestral tempo to the whole gameplay loop. Spellslinger is definitely sick in terms of visual effects and can feel equally amazing when you get orb procs and terrible when you get none. It’s unfortunate at this time of writing arcane is a shell of what it used to be. I think sunfury did need a nerf but the nerfs to blast and barrage just really bonked the spec. Since I want to push higher keys and not play lobby simulator I’ve put my arcane mage down but hope to return to it one day!
Double dip on NP is not a skill expression and the optimal AS window was such a minor damage increase that it was hardly worth the hassle, it's not like the 11.0.5 spec is much better but it doesn't lose the skill cap at all. Fuck, Arcane has always been and still is a simple spec, all you need is muscle memory, there was literally no decision making other than the 4 item bonus.
@ arcane soul, regardless of dps, just felt cool tempo wise, it signaled the end of arcane surge / surge burn phase. Double dipping was fun and a cool way to get more damage in. The spec isn’t nearly as hard as it is made out to be but I think some of the points the video highlights is what makes it have a higher skill skilling. Doing all the mage tricks like alter time while having a high cast time (compared to the other two specs) on your spells is what makes it have more mechanics involved. Tier set, burden of power, burn windows, cooldown usage, etc are all expressions of skill to maximize dps. The basics of the class aren’t hard but to truly maximize it in an extended dungeon / raid fight does have skill involved. Just like any other class. I agree though, the version now is a much simpler rotation with aether vision and spellslinger is all passive. It’s what makes me enjoy it less

Arcane rotation is set in stone with minimum variants so all skill expression allowed to us is a error correction and reaction to random ABar proc.
Agreed, switched to frost since 10.0.5, I hate what they did to arcane. SF was soooo good. This random proc generator is really not fun and too easy to play. Double dipping was for sure not a skill expression...until now however, I don't understand what was wrong with it. Like cmon...flury on GS and insta pyro of fire is EXACTLY the same mechanic. Blizz just lost it.
I see one big problem for me with arcane mage, Id tried this season im ilvl 620 and around 2.6k io, but the thing is I hate the RNG rotation with orb procs, basically with have to track the orb procs and spam Barrage each time they proc otherwise youre wasting the charges generated, it doesnt feel rewarding bc if you fail to barrage in that tiny microsecond the orb procd then u wasted it, it feels like a slot machine when im playing... How do you feel about it?
For me, the only sad part about Arcane Mage is that they missed the opportunity to put some Arcane Lightning into their abilities, especially Arcane Barrage. Like Medivh and Aegwynn in some arts that make me love arcane mages. Imagine charging the target with Arcane Blast and then finishing then or consuming Arcane Charges with Arcane Barrage being a Lightning Bolt (like Mage Wrath from ESO but purple/pink, just as an example), instead of spiral bolts. Don't have to be a literal lightning mage, just add some sparks to other abilities when hit the target. A lot of talents, especially now, have some lightning flavor. With Spellslinger, I expected Arcane Splinters to be solid purple crystals imbused in blue lightning. "Just make an elemental shaman" is not the same thing. Just like a Destruction Lock is not a Fire Mage.
Arcane is fun but theres way too much RNG in the kit that it makes it tedious. Im 624 atm doing mythic raid and +10's. In m+, if your priority target dies then you do basically no damage. If youre with other dps with upfront burst then good luck to you. The orb proc rng is not fun. In those instances your just hopeing and praying for pros or you do no damage. The reqorks wwre great but if they remove the level of rng then it will be better. Also make the spec less dependant on NEEDING a priority target to do aoe damage. For pug m+ , frost is just soooo much more consistent and less variables. The amount of times in raid im fishing fir a clearcasting proc and i use 80% of my mana before getting a proc feels insanely bad.
Gameplay feels ok. Although arcane orb procs are out of control in M+ which makes it frustrating to not pull unwanted packs. And tuning in M+ is terrible you will often be last dps evenly skilled and geared with other dps
M+ experience: Tank agros big pack - "Time to blow them up" - Use barrage - Orb doesn't proc - Use barrage - Orb doesn't proc - Use barrage - Orb doesn't proc. Do 200k damage while the other 2 DPS are doing 2M
Arcane is doable now but at no point does it even come close to how good fire feels . Even when you burst 2x a hard. And sadly frost makes me just want to log over to my shaman.
Arcane mage was fun but it relies too much on proc… when ur orb has no luck and ur CDs are down then u drop so much dps making it no fun while other classes popping almost every pull in M+
Arcane currently has the lowest 8-Target Damage in the game with 6 million in 5 minutes While the Average is around 9-10 And the Ele is dominating with 14. The oerformance in raid shrinked Now being the worst dps for Bloodhound horror besides Aug in terms of damage. Im just sad that my main got nuked in damage Thats more than feelable in high keys, frost is doing more damage without having the perfect secondary stats (For example +12 Necro: 2,3 with Arcane and 2,5 with Frost with 634,5 ilvl)
Arcane mage was fun after the rework but for short time, ofc blizz had to nerf spec to the ground, note how blizz is ok with other casters ( shadow priest ) being OP for long time where if mage pick rate raise 1% blizz is immediately releasing hotfix with nerfs (im talking about arcane/fire), defo far, far away from favourite child, unless we talking about frost mage - then yeah, agree, but arcane / fire - nah bro, no chance, mid B tier is our max as whenever we got buffs all kids goes on forum to cry about it ( despite fact arcane / fire still being on bottom of the pick list ) .
Is this an early April Fools joke? Arcane mages suck compared to Frost. WCL WoW has arcane mages dropping from 11 to 12 now. Frost mages are now rank 7 moving up the ranks in dps. Arcane is a joke compared to what Sunfury was pre-nerf.
I mean, it could be a November's fools joke, or it could be you actually listened to no words of the video or anything. I am always surprised at how unidimensional and boring some people see specs as. Sure DMG matters, but I do just fine in 11s atm, and for anything higher, I swap to Frost. I still main Fire in raid which is the worse of the 3. As some would say: "Frankly, it's a skill issue :)))"
The most fun part is spending all day in group finder and logging off. :)
I would imagine mage has a bit easier of a time getting groups than some other DPS specs

Arcane orbs is so hit and miss on procs and it coming out randomly can end up hitting packs unintentionally, it cost me a key once…

I’ve been thinking the same thing. Arcane mages need pink/purple lightning bolts.

For me, design of arcane is strange. Its kind of fun, yes, but I dont like the way we using arcane missles and arcane blast.

I love Fire but the spec just plain sucks right now and I feel like I’m too dumb to figure out arcane.
