    Excellent knife Daniel! I had gotten the dark one. I put an Ulti-clip on it and it's now in my fixie rotation! Great video too btw...

    That is exactly my kind of knife! Well there goes my pocketbook again, because I'm going to have to have that one.

    Thanks for the video.
    I'm not a ring fan. I'm paranoid about having a finger caught in a ring. I also think that putting a finger through a ring is a fine muscle motion that I'm not going to do well in a self-defense situation.
    Otherwise, that's a nice-looking knife. The blade is long enough to go through thicker clothing in a winter situation. I understand your point about how slicing just isn't as practical when the attacker is wearing thick clothes. Of all the knives you've shown, the one that I've come closest to getting is the Kabar TDI, but I can see where that one would be at a disadvantage for winter use against attackers wearing thick clothes.
    What is the point of the sawback or whatever those notches on the back of the blade are? They seem too deep for regular jimping. I would worry that they might catch on something as I was trying to pull a knife from my attacker's body after a stab. One advantage to using the technique that you advocate is that pulling the blade back while the sharp edge leads will prevent those notches from catching on anything.
    This knife looks nice, but I can't really see myself getting one.

    I used too do a lot of knife sparring. Of coarse I like the reverse grip. It's more close quarters combat compared too point forward.

    Another good video. I have mixed feelings about rings on knives also. For me it depends on the knife as far as the ring. I like Karambits(fixed blade and folders but sometimes they can draw negative attention when the ring is visible. The same is true about fixed blade knives with a ring. I always double check my wardrobe to make sure I'm concealing whatever I'm legally carrying that day properly. To me it's about having access to the self-defense tools I might need without making non-weapon people nervous. I've met Rory Miller and he's a good guy that knows his stuff. Keep up the good work...:) Frank in North Texas

    I have a very similar knife with a wharncliffe blade. I carry it horizontal in front. Very comfortable for me for open carry. It does stand out but in my area open carry of handguns is quite normal to see on the daily. I like the point pressure for deep cut slices and the mean penetration that design provides. I have an SOCP but double edges not so good for utility.

    I recently picked up a Toor Serpent T in 3V. It’s easy to carry and fits my size XL hands perfectly. Yes, I know Toor products are pricey but it’s a great blade!

    I love the rings. Have the one with the ring from tops- knives. If you hold the knife with the blade down you have the ring on the index finger. Good for a hard punch. The ring of this knife seems just a bit to thin and rounded.

    I figured slashing/slicing attacks would be focused on extremities like forearms and quadriceps - potentially keeping better standoff distance and ability to egress. Thrusting/piercing would be more effective during an aggressive offensive attack or rolling around grappling defensively.

    Its a good cut & thrust knife imo but your right the thrust would be more effective with that particular blade & I do hate those rings. Though I must I only really like the ice pick grip once things go to grappling. Otherwise I prefer the range of a saber or handshake grip. Also makes it easier to snipe at the opponents wrist which in my experience can help keep one from having to "end" the aggressor. (I did get nicked a couple times b4 hand but the cut to the wrist made him drop it)

    I have this knife and even though it is set up for tactical it can be used for slicing tasks. I have a hulticlip on it to ride in the pocket and the ring is helpful to draw it from the pocket. I find the ring comfortable enough in the grip and it does give you added options, although I noticed that you didn’t use it in any of your grips. Is there a tactical reason not to use a grip with a finger in the ring? I find the steel to be a mediocre performer heading towards poor. The Flissa D2 out performs it on cutting retention tests and I was hoping for more from Eafengrow. What is really compelling about this knife though is the price for the value and I think it is hard to beat. Your review was more about how to use a knife rather than what the knife was like.

    I do not like piercing attacks, you have to get to close. So for me, it is a slashing attack. Soon as your enemy starts to bleed. He may back off. If you slash a major artery, that's game over. The other problem with a piercing attack, is your knife might get stuck.

    • @411Outdoors
      @411Outdoors  10 дней назад

      A favor both method depending on the situation. Slashing is definitely a timer game. They won’t be able to go, but so far once something major has been cut.

      @@411Outdoors Plus, my favorite Self Defense knife, is the Rajah 2 XL, since it has a six inch blade, and fits in the pocket. I could stab with it. But its a hack and slash knife. If I pulled it, in self defense, its possible the other guy might think twice.

    • @longrider42

      @ Plus, I already have the EF 125, it is a legitimately good knife, and would also work in the Ice pick grip.

    Reverse grip with the edge on the inside - that's how you do it. Edge facing out never made sense to me. Spyderco makes a knife specifically for that kind of pierce and rip technique.

    What are your thoughts on an 8 inch ice pick.

    • @411Outdoors
      @411Outdoors  10 дней назад +3

      I really like ice pics and I’m drawn to them and I guess the reason why I don’t carry them is because they only really have one purpose. I always like the ability to cut as well. If I needed to carry something non-metallic I would carry the cold steel delta dart.

    Not a fan of the reverse grip, but that looks like a devastating technique. For multiple attackers you wanna get your stuff back fast. Nice knife.

  • @EdBeaudry

    Interesting knife.
    I agree with you the ring doesn't work the best.
    I think to be able to easily quickly shift a knife to my other hand is important. I don't see this knife as easily conducent for that. Right handed street thugs are at a disadvantage facing a left handed knife fighter, thugs typically not trained how to counter the offhand.
    If you're State stops,you to a 4" inch poker, for a knife, so be it.

      The shape of that blade is made specifically for self defense. People always hate. Not everybody is dumb enough to buy american made knives 24/7. This 30$ knife, will do its job. Now I have a knife and I can still afford to pay bills and take my family out. Some are so greedy they spend 600$ on a knife and their kids shoes and clothes have holes in them because instead of getting something in Chinese, the people would rather make their children go without, rather than buy a cheaper knife so they can provide for their children. So go drive you Chinese built truck, get on your Chinese made cell phone, go get on your laptop made in China. Then when you get done with that go buy you some groceries at Walmart and see where half the food you eat comes from. This knife is excellent. I'm impressed. Guess that's why every customer who bought it gave it 5 stars.
