      No they are not perfect. You cant perform infinite off the wall so instead characters are more subject heavy to landing. Yes you can still get away from some infinite but not just off the wall though. I would say marvel vs Streetfighter for Saturn is true to the arcade.

      @@purpledonatello Actually the reason why you perform infinites off the walls is because capcom made changes to how the game was balanced when putting together port

      I got the Japanese version imported way back in the late 90's. It came with some kind of cartridge that you had to swap in and out with the 4MB ram cartridge and then it let the game play on a US machine. It was a little different than the arcade version. You could double up on very character (up to 4 of the same at once), so every character got 4 color variations instead of 2.

    I imported the Saturn version back in the day. So glad I did. We all had tons of fun. I had to quickly switch the import converter with the RAM cart during initial loading at first, but eventually I got a device that was a 2 in 1.
    The PS1 version basically plays like Rival Schools but with different characters. The drop in animation is already bad, but if you turn off the music, even the voice sampling is low quality. I know this because a friend loaned me his copy (I felt so bad for him).

    • @stevensonchambers5577
      @stevensonchambers5577 2 года назад +2

      It's RAM, not ROM. ROM(Read Only Memory) refers to the actual game data files stored on ROM chips or an optical medium(ie CD). RAM(Random Access Memory) is where data is temporarily stored for immediate access.
      The Sega Saturn and the Sony Playstation had far too little RAM to properly run X-men vs Street Fighter. However with its cartridge expansion slot, Capcom was able to use a RAM expansion cart that essentially turned the Saturn into a CPS2 emulator. This is why X-men vs Street Fighter is essentially arcade perfect on the Saturn.

    Man you KNEW the PS1 was in trouble when even the title screen showed signs of being cut back. Notice how unusually jagged one part of that background animation is and notice it doesn’t look like that on ANY other version. What’s also not mentioned in this comparison is how much they pixelated certain effects on that port too. Marvel Vs. Street Fighter got a better port, but truth be told much of that is probably due to even the arcade game cutting back animations by that point.

    Personally, I didn't find anything wrong with most of the Capcom fighting games judging them on their own merits. They were fun enough.
    But then I played it at the arcade...
    It was literally night and day. The difference was the same as looking at the choppy SNES version after you'd played any 32-bit version. Everything was there, but it just felt... worse. If I had ever gotten to play a Saturn in my childhood, I might have begged my Dad to get both consoles.

      ProtoMancave No it’s not. That’s just hyperbole and it’s pretty shallow that you liked your own comment. The Saturn is FAR less difficult to program than PS2 and PS3. Saturn is a actually capable of features PS1 simply isn’t. Especially in the Mapping and Texturing department. You seriously need to get over your own one sided bias and fanboyism. PS1 actually handled 3D design very poorly and primitively. For one it can’t even handle Affines correctly, for two, it relies too much on Bilinear Filtering and Distortion which is why so many titles look so grainy,blocky and sloppy. And as for “Lighting”? No. It can’t actually handle Light Sourcing. It uses mostly Half Transparency but that’s entirely through a Screen Filtering Trick using low Illumination and MPEG buffering. It’s not actual Transparency. Also FYI, Saturn’s core design wasn’t even finished. It’s Taping was rushed 4 months too early.

    • @Darknight0681
      @Darknight0681 3 года назад

      Neither system actually did sprites y that point. Saturn used textured quads the same way the PS1 used textured polygons. The big difference is that the Saturn could actually do the classic raster based backgrounds the way those systems before it did it. This is why Alpha 2 could have Gen’s stage do the reflections identically to the arcade, and how Shuma Gorath’s chaos dimension made it over 100% intact whereas on PS1 its fade to black. The Saturn could also do true rowscrolling in the backgrounds. If the PS1 did anything like that, for example with floors, it was always a textured polygon ground.

    I've had both of Saturn versions back in day. The x Men vs Streetfighter is not arcade perfect. You can't perform infinite off the wall and characters tend not to bounce away. Give it a try your opponent will tend land awkward like they got some weight on them. This is more dissapointing reason why I sold this game.

    3rd world countries and their unplayable ports. Why bother? LOL.
    Anyway this is probably my favorite fighter, ever. Needs a console release for current systems, and needs someone competent to convert it. As we know if a conversion has even one frame extra lag compared to the original release, it's dead.
